  1. Another recommendation for Jon Smith. I contacted him over the weekend and he was able to fit in a clean of all my windows inside and out today. Very polite and professional and the quality of the work is great. I?ve already booked him in to come again in a couple of months.
  2. Hi, I?m looking for someone to dig out and move some soil around in my garden. 1 days work for ?100 Thanks
  3. Hi, I'm looking for recommendations for someone to remove my existing driveway and lay a new one of either slabs or block setts and to install a new fence and front steps. Thanks
  4. Hi, I have a flat in East London that I?m planning to sell imminently and I was thinking about using an online agent like Purple Bricks to keep the commission fees down. Does anyone have any experience with these sorts of businesses and any recommendations? Thanks
  5. Hi, I?m looking for recommendations for someone who can re-turf the lawn in my back garden. The existing lawn is shot and full of moss and bare patches. Thanks
  6. I've used South London Windows in South Norwood to replace all the windows in my house in the past. They're a really great outfit who did very good work. I'm talking to them again now for windows/doors for my kitchen extension. Talk to Tim who is the sales guy and is really helpful. https://www.southlondonwindows.co.uk/
  7. Hi, Just wondering whether anyone on here has used House Extensions Wandsworth aka 30 Day Extensions for any building work? We're thinking about using them for a side return extension and reviews online seem positive but was hoping for some personal experiences. Thanks
  8. Hi, I?m looking for recommendations for general builders that can brick up my old kitchen back door and also cut a new window in my kitchen wall (quite a large one). I have a window supplier lined up so the window won?t need fitting but any lintels and brickwork will need to be sorted. Thanks
  9. It seems that the 'repair' that they spent a week working on at the mini roundabout by Goodrich School lasted less than 24 hours before there was water coming up through the newly laid tarmac. You'd think they'd do some form of testing before closing it back up: Is it wet? If so then it's probably not fixed!
  10. Another glowing (excuse the pun) recommendation for Angus at Firefly, he fitted our stove just over a year ago and did a fantastic job. He's really knowledgable and passionate about what he does. He fitted a Charnwood C-Five for us and it is one of my favourite things about our house now.
  11. They had a go at pulling mine off as well, fortunately they just bent it the wrong way and it seems to have popped back into place OK. I'll never understand the behavior of some people....
  12. Another recommendation for Shearwater Shutters. David was very helpful, gave great advice and did a lovely job of fitting our shutters in what was a tricky bay window. They look amazing. I?m actually just about to get him round to do the front room upstairs.
  13. +1 for portable aircon, it's an absolute god-send. Good luck lugging one all the way up to the loft, the good ones are damn heavy.
  14. I was chatting to the workmen there at the end of the week before last and they were saying it was more likely to be around Weds 29th. If they'd dropped behind schedule that early on in the refurb then I wouldn't hold my breath for it re-opening on time. I hope that they have come up with a good design for the interior, it's my nearest corner shop and I've been suprised how many times I've missed it while its been closed.
  15. I'd recommend Back 2 Wood unreservedly. They have sanded and finished both my living room and kitchen floors and have done a lovely job.
  16. I'm using them at the moment, the project manager they have assigned me is very good and they certainly seem to know what they're doing. We decided to go with them as my wife and saw a conversion that they'd done on a house in Nunhead that we were looking at buying and were very impressed with the finish. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. We're currently sans-roof while they build the dormer and are praying to the weather gods that it stays dry for the next few days until we get it properly watertight.
  17. Does anyone here know of a car wash that has a ramp or an inspection pit where they would be able to get access to properly clean the underside of my Mini? I took him down to Glastonbury this year, got stuck in the mud and brought a good chunk of Somerset back with me attached to the underside of the car and now the MOT centre won't test it until it's cleaned off :-( Cheers
  18. The ones under the railway arches on Evelina Road in Nunhead did a good job on my car a few weeks back. Cheers
  19. sleepy-li: Thanks for the info, it's good to get the opinion of someone so close to where we are moving to. Bic Basher & Jah Lush: I agree with you, Virgin is not worth taking the chance with. I was hoping that I might get lucky but as it has a 12 month contract it's too much of a risk to take. I guess I'll have to suck it up and give my business to an ISP that uses the BT infrastructure. Cheers
  20. I'm moving into my new house on Dunstans Road (near the middle close to Goodrich School) next week and I'm trying to figure out who to go with for my internet access. I'm currently living up near ED Station where my only option was BT FTTC (using Zen as the ISP) which has been fine (getting approx 70Mb/s). The previous owners of my house had Virgin and I know that I can get up to 200MB/s with them but I have read a fair few horror stories about how much it can slow down at peak times. BT are quoting that I am only likely to get approx 35MB/s at the new address. Also when I say BT I just mean their wires, I'd sign up with a proper ISP, not the actual BT jokers :) Does anyone on here live near my part of Dunstans Road and are you able to give me some first-hand experiences of what the internet services are like? Thanks
  21. I think its just re-opened now. I just drove up it and it looks like the workmen are taking down the diversion signs.
  22. I went in there with the Mrs last night for dinner. Was impressed by the Cherry Tree burger and the service was superb, Mrs welshio had the duck salad and enjoyed it. We would have stayed for dessert but the mains left us stuffed. Given that I can see my flat from the beer garden I'm more than happy to make this my new local. Hopefully they'll also be showing Rugby during the World Cup and if I'm lucky maybe even the odd footy game featuring the mighty Swansea City :-)
  23. I love these souvlakis, so much so that they have won my custom away from the pork roll stall of a Saturday morning which, if you know me, is no small achievement :)
  24. Scaffolding is up at The Cherry Tree and it looks like they've begun ripping out the old interior. I for one am looking forward to seeing what they do, this will (geographically speaking) be my local.
