I would say only a small minority of the folk in Forest Hill live on the South Circular itself. And of course noise drops off very quickly once you are off it. I can't hear a thing where I am - it's pretty much silent (apart from seasonal fox mating) - true I suppose that the High Street will never have a that supposedly sought after village feel because of the main road but that doesn't bother me. It does have a good Sainsbury's, the great Wspoons old cinema and there is interesting stuff up Dartmouth Road. Not sure if I'm allowed to say this on this forum but though I realise that East Dulwich has some excellent Victorian housing stock I've never quite seen the attraction of the East Dulwich flatlands. The rail/tube station in F Hill also seems more central. And despite what a property article said that I read over the summer, the Horniman is in Forest Hill, not Dulwich.
  2. Anyone got a recommendation for someone who can fix a leak in a patio door? Someone reliable who knows what they are doing.
  3. Glad I helped daveR. I had dimly been aware of it for a few years but never used - I have always tended to be suspicious of such things/thought you'd get tied up in small print worthy of an insurance company. But it's very straightforward. I maybe have the feeling that Evans would rather you see this as some sort of guarantee that they are are always uber-competitive (of course they are not) and so go ahead and buy stuff with the idea that you can claim back later. And then just forget about it. I wouldn't advise this - rather weakens your position. Use it beforr you buy. I seem to remember that I got them to price match Tredz on an item - a company which I think I have never bought from and quite possibly never will. Simple guide to here in case folks couldn't find it: http://www.evanscycles.com/help/price-match PS Dave R - brake pads. I recommend discobrakes: http://www.discobrakes.com/ One of the most unconvincing web sites you will ever see (looks to me like it was put together by a teenager in a bedroom in the internet year of 1996 in league with the Russian mafia) but I have had good stuff from them and many others. Uber competitive pricing.

Evans price match is worth highlighting. Check out details on their web page. They price match quite a lot of very competitive online operations including ChainReaction. I used it recently and it was very straightforward - no flanneling I had to go to the London Bridge shop to sort it. Now folks could use East Dulwich. It may be easier sometimes to use this rather than say Chain Reaction and be out when the package comes/have to retrieve it from somewhere. I find Evans to be a decent shop. They get stick from some cyclists for reasons I have never understood - they are hardly the devil. Their mechanics can I understand be of variable quality but that is to be expected with a branded mult-chain outfit. At least it's not one of those uber-cool new cycling shops selling overpriced hipster stuff - bike locks designed to look cool rather than effective, specialising in tiddly over-designed over-pricey lights which run off a battery the size of an hallucinogenic tab. S They do sell such things but also a general range. I'm not complaining.
  5. If you have a bike GPS such as a Garmin I have a GPX file for this very journey. Get in touch if you want it.

I see this thread as test not only of the candidate, who walked into it, but of this forum's attitude to free speech and debate, so very much hope that it isn's closed down for any dodgy reasons. And it is all of course perfectly polite. In the meantime, the electioneering candidate seems to have gone rather quiet. Any chance of a return?
  7. Apologies for my ignorance. Should/have googled the name. Other points/the core point still stands. Otherwise we will end up with a government decided by what folks think should happen to the litter bin at the end of the street. Though have to admit that if things worked like that world history might be different.
  8. Just come across this (until now mainly been a lurker) but ALL of the questions seem to me to be perfectly fair questions to direct at someone putting himnself forward for a NATIONAL general election. I think we are all intelligent enough to know that, because of the way the British electoral system works, the candidate, in his endeavour to attain his objective will have to win local votes. But it is not up to him or anyone else in my opinion to dictate what polite questions can and cannot be put to him. We are not peasants.
