  1. I always understood the need to sterilise as being more to ensure there is no trace of milk left as that can be the harmful bacteria, as long as they have been thoroughly cleaned then that should be fine. Although I continued to sterilise for a year out of laziness to wash up and not having enough bottles to put them through the dishwasher and not wanting to put the dishwasher on every day!
  2. Hmmm, my limited knowledge/experience ends there I'm afraiid. Maybe just pop along to the doc for reassurance and actual medical help! :)
  3. Would love to, that cafe is lovely, sadly I work on weds though...but not in July so if it's still going then I'll come! X
  4. I'll try too. Having just sobbed into my fianc?es frustrated arms about how I have no direction and no life to speak of (dramatic? Never) I think it would be good to meet some new faces. Hopefully I will have dragged myself out from my sorrowful rock by then!
  5. How big is it? My daughter also has a couple of hard pea sized lumps that seem to float a bit, again doc wasn't fussed...
  6. Ish, when my daughter was around 4 months she seemingly work up with two lumps on her skull, at the bottom of her head where it meets her neck, soft and fleshy. I thought perhaps glands but rushed her off to a&e in a panic. They said they didn't know what they were but shouldn't be anything serious, referred me back to the GP. When I went to the GP she said it shouldn't be anything sinister but she could be referred for a scan if they changed. Her opinion was that they were just part of the shape of her head...and they've not changed in nearly a year so I guess that they are... Def go to the doctor just for peace of mind, try not to worry.
  7. I think they do stuff on a monday but not sure of the times, and friday 10-11.30. They may have a website, its a sure start centre...
  8. sorry if youve already been but... I pootled over to forest Hill today for a play group and wanted to say how good it was. Great for a change of scenery. It is at the Kelvin Grove Children's Centre, 10-11.30am, it only costs 50p and they have little tables laid out with paints and aprons, a sand table and big separate water table with watermills, lots of mini kitchen stuff and a lovely selection of outdoor instruments and spongy fake grass. Chalk for drawing on the floor, things to crawl through and all sorts of puzzles etc. Sorry if people already know about it and I am going on but I thought it was great! Go if you haven't been!
  9. Hey It's not just you. I was made redundant after my return to work and set about going freelance and working from home but it has been the most miserable experience and I am now desperately trying to find some other options. I feel so isolated at home, I feel like I am going out of my mind sometimes as I just sit starting at the microwave. I am totally uninspired and as a result my work is suffering and my confidence. A few of my friends are self-employed and they have taken a shared studio space in the arches on Bellenden Road. A space came up that I looked at but I think it hit home that even if I moved there I would still need work colleagues, I need other people to bounce ideas off and share with. Plus the studio was quite depressing and I think I would have found it more uncomfortable than my home. It never occured to me before that I would dislike self-employment so much, I never considered myself a real team player or loved my job or my office but when you don't have it and you are at home with a baby and then doing the cleaning and spending 24/7 there ist becomes something of a prison! I am now looking for work and not sure what my next step is but I am slightly terrified about it! If you would like to meet up to talk about it ever then let me know!
  10. Thanks everyone, got a plumber over from a recommendation on here and whilst he was here some other stuff went wrong so it turns out we have a few faults. The boiler is 7 years old and we've been rubbish with services so no surprise really. He recommended I call Worcester about it and I have decided to go with their service contract as there are a few things that could need doing in the long-term so it will give us repairs for a year. Not cheap but I think worth it on this occaion.
  11. Thanks! Yes I have tried exercsie DVDs in the past but part of the quest is to get out of the house a bit more. For personal reasons I really need to take an evening to myself each week so I am trying to find something to do! PLus as you say, having a toddler makes it hard plus the housework is always sitting there staring at me! I might try the ballet class at the Albrighton centre next week, but I agree the cost is prohibitive so not something to be done that regularly I don't think.
  12. Thanks Keano77, its good to hear how much that cost you, lets wait and see if it is something similar. MSA - thanks for the link, I tried that last night and did everything it suggested but alas it didn't work :( Going to have to get the plumber over, I wouldnt mind too much if it wasn't for having a toddler, we need hot water so better get it sorted! Thanks for your help.
  13. A Worcester Bosch green star...but not sure which model, it's around 6 years old I think.
  14. Hi all our boiler is on the blink and have been ignoring it but really we need to sort it out. We will get a plumber if needs be but could really do without the cost so any wise people experienced in boilers do reply! The reset light is flashing red, we have tried holding it down to reset it but it either turns the boiler on for a few seconds before returning to flashing or it just carries on flashing. have done the usual turning off and on again...nothing. That is the extent of our knowledge. Anyone experienced this and did they manage to sort it/did it cost much to sort??
  15. Hey Getting married in 3 months and whilst I am the weight and size I want to be I just feel a bit 'loose' and could do with some toning up, was thinking about doing the adult ballet classes advertised but interested to hear if anyone else has other recommendations for local classes or activities. Preferably in the evenings and local to East Dulwich, I'm not much of a runner unless it is short bursts with other exercise thrown in, really I just want to help the aches and pains from lugging around a toddler who can't yet walk and feel a little trimmer in time for my wedding. What do you think??
  16. I keep harping on about it on other threads but I actually finally went to Battersea Park children's zoo and it was such a nice day so would recommend that as a nice thing to do with a toddler who prob isn't old enough to understand/appreciate the big zoo. They have lots of interesting animals, loads of brilliant playgrounds, sandpits with water pumps, adventure playgrounds and tractors and things they can sit on. ?7.95 per adult. Otherwise I echo the others, if you are having a party then that will be a nice way to celebrate it, otherwise just give her an exciting day with you.
  17. If not then there is a little zoo in Battersea park that might provide enough animal entertainment for your 2 year old...its around ?7-8 I think. I take my 15 month old to the crystal palace farm as she finds the animals funny but she is now highly unimpressed with the offering so we might step it up a gear and try the battersea park zoo. Otherwise someome recommend Brocketts Farm in Kent for a great day out...lots of animals but nothing more exotic than a llama I dont think.
  18. Thats great news, really pleased for you!
  19. I had my baby's done at Shot by the Sheriff on Northcross road (in the stable block). It was expensive though at ?15 but you did get a keyring if thats the kind of thing you like! I'm one of those people who just wants something to be easy but if you have more time I think there are other places that will do it cheaper, I think there might be some places in Peckham.
  20. Thanks Pickle, I feel really bad for her as it is clearly bothering her. I will try and pop along to the doctor tomorrow if I can get through :) I gave her some piriton this evening before bed. To be honest this cough is pretty nasty and I have been feeling rough for a couple of weeks with it so prob wouldnt hurt to get her checked over anyway as its a lingering virus obviously! HOpe she doesnt have hayfever...does that spell a whole summer of this!???
  21. Hiya Quick one looking for some advice from the experienced! Both me and daughter (15 months) have had nasty cough for over a week, I have nasty sore throat and earrache too and have wondered when she would get that part of this virus. This morning she wakes up with streaming eyes and nose and sneezing constantly, could this be a new cold or could this be hayfever?? The nose is literaly like a tap you can't turn off, not yellowy and mucusy but completely clear and constant. Her eyes are red and watery and she sneezes on and off all day, eye-rubbing etc as well and her nose is obviously stuffy and she is rubbing that too. I don't have any experience of a baby with hayfever so not sure what to look out for, she does get plenty of colds but hasnt had something like this (usually lots of blocked noses, yellow gunk etc rather than streaming nose and eyes). She is under the weather anyway with this cough etc so I am thinking it might just be a new virus on top of that one. The thing that makes me wonder if its hayfever is that she has been outside all week at nursery so with the hot weather etc should I have expected to see symtoms before now? Also she woke up and was quickly like this but I hadnt taken her outside (although the windows were open). Any ideas? Dont get it myself so not sure what to watch out for...
  22. Hi Missyelliot, just to pick up on your last post - please don't be concerned or scared about the hospital. I know that there have been recent threads about hospital births etc but people are more likely to look for support after a bad experience than they are to share their good experiences! I had my daughter at Kings and whilst it wasn't quite as I had hoped for (what labour is!), it was fine and she was delivered healthy and I was healthy and that is the end result you most hope for. For all the bad stories there are loads of good ones - start a thread asking for positive birth stories and you will get loads! Kings provide fantastic care and in that moment when you are delivering your child you are the only person that matters to them at that moment. My hospital room was very calm, it was just me providing the entertainment throughout, my midwife was calm and even when it got a bit stressful at the end they were great at sweeping in to sort it out and in retrospect I wasn't aware of any panic so that is testament to their experience. I have also known people with positive and negative induction stories so that isn't always as bad as the general picture can be, plus your baby could come at any time so nothing to say you will def be late. My daughter arrived the day before my booked induction after loads of sweeps, acupuncture and lots of marching around the park like a nutter! Perhaps go for some hypnotherapy or something to help and def do hypnobirthing preparations as the breathing is def something you can do in the hospital to help.
  23. Have to second another vote for the phil and teds me too as a travel high chair that is also really useful at home so you're getting 2 bits of equipment for the price of one! Also like hellosailor the bar on our chair hits the edge of the table but its not a problem that it doesnt go underneath.
  24. We have the tripp trapp and bought second hand cushions from the forum because I agree they are very expensive, worth posting an ad to see if anyone is selling. With the cushions on they seem very comfy and I liked the fact that it could be adjusted to fit her height etc when necessary. My 15 month old now has it without the cushions and doesnt seem to mind.
  25. thanks everyone, she sleeps in a short-slv body suit, long sleeve sleepsuit and 2.5 tog bag - likes being snug! Will check out gap then, they always have a sale of some sort. And if the leg is tight fitting (long john style) then i guess the socks can stay under the trouser leg. Are the gap pj tops anything like their long slv t-shirts because I find these really small, the necks are loose and the arms are massively tight...but they are long which is good.
