  1. what a fab idea, domitianus... except that instead of children it really should be edf-ers. it would have been a brilliant idea for the 'edf showpiece' at the goose green fair on sunday. do you think you could organise it in time??? >:D< and we could run a sweepstake on who's going to p themselves first.
  2. Yes, I heard the brothel rumour too. Apparently it no longer exists on Bawdale tho! I can reassure you that I haven't seen any obvious, er, 'visitors' to such establishments wondering up and down the road... although i don't know what brothel frequenters are supposed to look like!!! :))
  3. I live on the corner. Fairly quiet, depending on how far up you are (the roof tile place has noisy roofers from very early a.m., altho evenings are quiet thank goodness) - parking is a nightmare (far worse than Archdale Rd, e.g.). Otherwise, it's great and very friendly. Fab position - everything close to hand. Prices are such a joke i'm surprised anyone's buying anything unless you've won the lottery ;-) , there's a miniscule top floor flat in Bawdale on at 300K, which is so laughable i'm still crying... However, I think Bawdale's a good road, so good luck!
  4. what made me chuckle all the way to work was the rather too life-like brewer's-droop-struck personal appendage on that poor chap on the bridge - must have been the v nippy wind up there the last few days!! seems so incongruous when everyone else is fully dressed. might be a good way to hide a body tho (you know, if you just happen to have one that needs hiding).
  5. don't s'pose he has anything to do with the naked man that's just appeared on waterloo bridge? gave me quite a scare, i can tell you!
  6. ooh, just caught up with this one. my vote goes to 'Cheers' - unprepossessing little shop, but usually has what I want and the friendliest place around (they save past-its-best veg for our rabbits and always have time for a chat and a joke - we used to have to go in there every day to see the cat, who sadly seems to left home unannounced). So gold star to Daniel and Ted - i think everyone should use Cheers. Also, the staff in Mon P'tit Chou, who are really lovely and never minded me taking my work in there and using the place as my office! And yes WIlliam Rose cos they're friendly *and* helpful and even let me in after closing time. Moxtons also v friendly and helpful and don't mind humouring my daughter who has to go in to stroke the lobsters whenever we go past. actually, almost all my neighbours on that bit of LL are really nice, including Franklins and the lads in the roof-tile place (especially when i've needed help shifting furniture :) so i think we're pretty lucky really. hooray for decent people!
  7. yep, they send out maps and stuff, and is useful... but word-of-mouth tried-and-tested recommendations can't be beaten!
  8. this looks really interesting, and i'd love to come... but my daughter has a swimming lesson so i can't make it. would be interested in future meetings tho - pls add me to your list!:)-D
  9. now there's an idea!(tu) perhaps we could have an EDF annual knicker cruise to France (probably end up on a bone-rattling old biddy bus being decamped to buy our knickers in the french equivalent of primark, and it wouldn't be very glamourous at all - i fear it may be easier to cycle round to M&S up the walworth road) ALternatively, we could perhaps do one of these recycling events (like the CRISP and Sthk council one)... and have a 'bring your unwanted posh knickers' event. Any glamourous dulwich ladies got any fancy knickers they don't wear?
  10. primark knickers (whoops, just typed knockers) are so cheap that they fall apart in 2 weeks. AND it means fighting one's way around peckham (and just why *are* peckham shop assistants so rude?). and i like to have *nice* knickers (just in case i'm knocked off my bike and carted off to hospital), but not at the going ED rate of ?50 a pair (or however much they are in DB). ooh i'm a grumpy cow this morning, you can tell i haven't had my organic rhubarb bruschetta and fairtrade Somalian skinny latte yet... must dash
  11. not another blasted salon! ED is now so over-salonned that I'm beginning to wonder if it's known for being peopled by mingers in need of so much beauty treatment. Have i missed something? I think we should be told! (why oh why can't we have a knicker shop? I want to be able to kit out the family with underwear without having to take out a mortgage - perhaps that's another side effect of this 'gentrification'... half of us have been priced out of the knicker market. can't afford a local house, can't afford local knickers: what on earth is life coming to?):'(
  12. sorry to go back to bike routes again, but does anyone know the best cycle route from ED to shepherds bush? and roughly how long does it take? (i'm hoping there are a few BBC-ites who cycle and would know!) thanks.
  13. re- > Out with the chain stores! Surely we'd rather have > a nice, local, independent, organic sex shop? ... but we have a fab greengrocers - wouldn't that do the trick?!!
  14. I regularly cycle up to Russell Sq - via Bellenden Rd, up Southampton WAy take a right round Coleman Rd for a short cut onto Wells Way alongside burgess park (I don't go thru it) and then Albany rd and right onto portland st. follow the cycle route, you end up crossing new kent rd, follow the cycle route, crossing newington causeway up the side of sth bank uni and then blackfriars or waterloo bridge - i prefer the latter and you can get up onto to it without having to fight the buses on the roundabout! mostly cycle route, and i've never (yet!??) had any probs, except for pedestrians who think cyclists don't matter.
  15. i'm a mummy, and i'm yummy... do i get the job?
  16. local kids' chess club sats and suns 10 am above bookshop on nth cross rd - richard who runs it is very nice and would point you in the right direction - it's part of greenwich chess club, but i'm sure richard would tell you the nearest local adults' group
  17. just to add my two penn'orth - somerfield is crap! extremely expensive compared with Sainsburys and they consistently overcharge (i.e. what it says on the shelf is not what you're charged) - BEWARE their 'special' offers (they call them 'special' because you get a surprise price at checkout). I regularly complain in there - you may only be overcharged a few p, but if they do that to everyone then they're fraudulently making stacks of extra money (the directors no doubt, not the poor staff). i was once racially abused by a somerfield shop assistant in camberwell (she was abusive to the customer in front of me who was complaining about being overcharged, so I defended the in-the-right customer, and was then abused by this shop-assistant-with-a-london-accent, as 'you English think you can come in here...' - somerfield head office sent me ?5 compensation at which i despaired, since they clearly hadn't quite got the point) last gripe... it's always bleeding FREEZING COLD in there. so yes, I avoid the place unless i'm desperate - we've got fab local shops (and long live iceland)!
  18. the plods regularly walk down my bit of Lordship Lane - they seem to keep the local sandwich bar in business ... that's why you never see them, they're busy with their sarnies. incidentally, a few months ago they were given bikes, and for a couple of weeks i kept seeing them cycling past on their Met bicycles. haven't seen one since, bikes have probably been abandoned in the empty horse stables. which taxpayer forked out for them bikes then??!! this thread rather reminds me of the Neasden Police Log column in Private Eye - they must have used ED Police for inspiration
  19. I'VE NEVER SEEN THIS LADY!! I can see this place from my window... we've been trying to work out if someone lives there - we sometimes see a light on somewhere in there, so we figured that perhaps it's squatted. Maybe the occupants have access thru the back. Now i'm really intrigued!
