  1. We are fortunate to have a good MP in Harriet Harman which is why she is consistently returned, with high numbers. I find that voters dont like to be insulted and see through the many parties that take the opinon that their only interested in their potential constituency at election time. I agree with the opinion that as voters,it is our responsibility to seek out information. It is also worth pointing out that there has been hustings locally too.
  2. Just had to walk from New Cross Gate to Dulwich. 343 is going strait to Peckham Harris Academy, the 484 is doubly hit with a closure on Drakefell road and diversion along Homestall road on towards camberwell. Good luck.
  3. Interesting thread, when I worked in the States our neighbours placed signs out reminding people that a lot of veterans suffer with PTSD and fireworks wasn't necessary for a good celebration to take place. We often forget about human suffering when it comes to fireworks. 11am is far too late on a week night with children due at school. If it was Friday or Saturday then maybe, with an apology note / sign, / sign placed where immediate neighbours can see would have been the decent way to deal with this although I'm sure no upset was meant.
  4. Have you tried speaking to them directly? If they are smoking so frequently I'd be inclined to think they are using it for support with a medical condition (pain). My daughter had an issue with a neighbour doing the same with cigarettes and then cannabis, she just spoke to them politely and said that my grandson was imitating them. This embarrassed them a bit and they made an effort to move away from the shared wall. I'm glad to hear the police haven't taken an interest as clearly a personal problem, one where I'm sure some patience and understanding is needed. I hate the smell admittedly but with the relaxation over the personal use laws, accept we will be smelling this more often. You were at pains to mention their landlord is southwark council, have you approached your own to be moved if it is that so detrimental to you? Take it from me, wherever possible I would urge you to maintain good relationships with your neighbours....it makes life so much easier for everyone. You'll never know when you are in need, who will be able to help.
  5. There has been a number of road closures in the area which force traffic to have to all flow in the same direction. This must have an impact the congestion and frustration of drivers / pedestrians. I would like to see some of the roads along Barry road re opened and allow for traffic not to have to take long detours. The fact all cars are left idling at lights and travelling further must be counter productive. This site has always been an issue, I recall travelling through on my school days and there being issues although not too serious. Isn't time to review the council's poor record on traffic management? Unintended consequences of pandering to small groups ( usually one / two residents) with loud voices has undoubtedly become a major issue for us all. Glad lady is reportedly well, this will no doubt stay with her for a while now.
  6. There is a power cut in the SE15 3 area ( and poss along Dulwich side of Peckham Rye). Impact is thought to be along Brayards road, Copeland, to parts of Ivydale rd (nunhead station side) and up to the river Peck boundary. Apparently the fuse has blown at the sub station on Rye road. The board will have someone look at it around 9.40, with an estimated fix at around midday. They aren't sure as dont know what they will find so they stressed it was an estimated time. I would encourage you to call to log your own fault if impacted so they can get a true picture for when the engineers arrive. You can also sign up for the texts alerts to have ongoing alerts. If your disabled/ ill I'd recommend calling and speaking to them to register with their assistance scheme (do the same with the water company too). 08003163105 UK electricity
  7. The concern for me is that the proposal hides another agenda, parking seems to be the preferred option (lazy) for the council. I suspect they really want the CPZ that will naturally occur as a result of the users being displaced. I live very close to peckham Rye and can see that the park is well used throughout the week, especially the weekends. We have been impacted by the councils displacement of residents in a nearby estate who have been forced to park onto the streets surrounding the area including parks of the park, they will be there for some time apparently. What happens when these charges come in and they are then forced to use the other roads further displacing the issue? I've observed the comments surrounding the CPZ in East Dulwich and heavy handed approach to impose a cpz that will ultimately impact business. Money is tight all over, the vanity project of the local 'gala" would have been a good way to raise funds but the amount being paid appears woefully inadequate for the use of the park. So if costs were really a factor I'd expect this, the fair and other commercial users to be charged more. Not many people drive to the park who live locally but of those who do (like myself) I'm sure we've good reason- time constraints, mobility, logistics etc). It seems weird that commercial users su as those running work out clubs throughout the year haven't been asked to contribute more. The park has been underfunded for a number of years with the playground in a poor state for ages it's a shame to implement something like this which will have wider implications for such a small gain.
  8. Unfortunately I can no longer trust the incumbent leaders. I accept there have been cuts in local government but there also appears to be a race to the bottom in terms of accountability and transparency. The attack on motorists is just the tip of the iceberg, It's anti car and a seriously overzealous attempts at blaming everything on cuts when some of the issues are clearly down to poor forward planning. I think they are way too comfortable as there's no viable opposition. To have a Labour council effectively privatise the park with the unnecessary festival (no value for money) and then the introduction of parking fees to the newly refurbished children's play area which is well used is telling. I see the same incompetent (not all) staff at the council running unchecked and good staff leaving as a result. The same dodgy contractors being given jobs and it's heart breaking. The liberals weren't any better but at least we had the hope of opposition. Now we have spats between parties and we as residents suffer.
  9. I'm past fed up with this lot and the anti driving lobby. Peckham Rye Park is well ised and loved. The place was heaving this week in the children's play area after school due to the good weather. Many travelled locally but drove in beacuse quite frankly, with more than one child it's easier. This proposed charge will now deter the parents on the school run from quickly detoring to the play area and force them inside. Poor idea. It's like these guys are signing off on crazy ideas beacuse they expect to be voted out and want to destroy local residents quality of life and enjoyment of local free amenities. They've already sold off part of the park for the festival preventing people from relaxing on the bank holiday. At a pittance if what I hear it correct.
  10. I'm against the closure of streets to deal with what is essentially small inconvenience at limited times during the day. I drive to my child's school and then proceed on to work. I have intermittent mobility issues and even aside from that feel that if someone what's to drive they should be able to. We need to get away from the anti car rhetoric that seems fashionable. Not everyone can walk or cycle. What I want to know is wherever or not they've tried alternatives like a school carpool drop off queue. I have a colleague in Croydon who has a child who is collected from the car by voluenter / teachers each morning, this avoids cars idling and a steady stream on moving traffic. The parents volunteer and it's supported by teachers on rotation- if you need to see a teacher you know which day of the week they will be manning the queue. She reports it works really well and traffic clears quickly as they self regulate it to be a one way system, allowing others to pass. In the main, most children walk to school, but for those who don't it's ideal. My point is there are ways around these issues without such draconian measures. A small school bus would also help those not in the immediate area too. Funny i don't read about the congestion around JAGs witg thier cars and coaches on here. The anti car lobby need to get a grip as I'm sure they'd still have an issue when all area are running in electric or hydrogen;).
  11. I wouldn't like either a dog or a child with dirty feet in either situation. I've had pets but wouldn't dream of bringing them into a food establishment as I respect the rights others who, like me, recognise that ultimately they are still animals. Humans carry illnesses / diseases - hence why we are required to wash our hands and cover our hair when preparing food, not having animals in food establishments is a courtesy we need to respect. If your not using a guide dog then there is no excuse. That two people thought to justify this is shocking. I have flash back to the episode of come dine with me and the cat's whiskers dropping into the food. It's 2018, not the middle ages where we aren't aware of the dangers of poor hygiene. Yuck
  12. It would be nice to have every restaurant/ food establishment display signs. I've had to revise shopping locally as a beloved bakery on Nunhead lane has taken to indulging dog owners who have no respect for those of us who don't want dog hair in our food. Why, oh why can't fido be left outside whilst you pop in for a frog / ice doughnut? I've no issue with guide dogs but fido is an animal, the shops not your kitchen and it's disgusting. I've had pets and never taken them inside of a shop as I realise ultimately they are animals and not hygienic. I hope more stores are encouraged to be better and realise animals aren't always prohibited, but it's a big indicator as to how you view your cleanliness.
  13. I live oppersite the park and save for the blue small signs, NOTHING has been posted or put up about this. 3 years is a lot. We were impacted by the noise and disruption. It's telling that Lambeth council gave similar organisations a swerve in brockwell park and Southwark are rushing are rushing to lap up the leftovers. My neighbours and I use the park at lot and don't understand why events are being forced into the small area when you have Burgess and Dulwich park that easily accommodate these sorts of events. Parks are for enjoyment, not thoughtless profitmaking vehicles -And from a Labour council too. Smh
  14. Sick of motorists being battered by poor government policy. Best way to reduce emissions would be to put pressure on the industry to make cleaner cars. We saw their response was to fiddle the emissions. This proposal will only serve ad a vanity trick for someone whilst greatly impacting on others. May car would not be liable to the charge but I don't buy into these overly simplistic rhetoric on emissions. We need to push back on these lazy policies and demand effective changes. We still have poor rail, bus and tube connectivity in this area. Ever tried to get from Brenchley gardens to walworth road? Done get me started on the increase to the plastic bag charges. Fake platitudes to be seen to be environmentally friendly.
  15. Completely agree. Near the playground would be ideal as not always quick enough to use Dulwich Leisure centre and staff can be very rude when we use the wc
  16. Mine has gone down alone with 4G on EE in the Peckham Rye Park area.
  17. Are there any plans to increase the number of staff on the counter at the callers office in Peckham (opp Clarks /Superdrug), increase the timings and offer another 'long day for collection in addition to the Wednesday, especially in light of the planned closure of the one currently serving Dulwich. Currently standing in a long queue (up the top of the ramp, into car park area) loosing the will to live. It's only going to get worse due to increase in internet shopping etc
  18. Hi. Thames water have said a few hours now as the 0930hrs aim has gone. They are sending out sms update for anyone who registers. Whole of Rye Hill Estate is affected and surrounding street. I'm not impressed as they've had two days to resolve this issue. On a weekend without warning has caught people short as this area has a lot of people who are elderly, vulnerable and not able to access the internet (thanks Virgin Media).
  19. I'm livid that I only found out about this planned event by logging on to EDF to see if I was the only one with a Virgin boardband issue and saw the post. Definitely will be opposing this. I live directly oppersite the park and there is no way 8000 people will be accommodated safely. This is a slap in the face to those of us who have been asking for a return of the Irish festival and fireworks display that used to happen successfully in the past. Dulwich park is a far better location if there is to be no parking as it's an already enclosed space and accessible via public transport. Council are really showing their desire for ruining Peckham rye/ nunhead like others have done with Clapham/ Battersea/ Shoreditch/ Brixton. I'm sure the residents in Dulwich would have all been written to, with better advertisement of the planned two day event. I'm pretty sure that the money being offered will not cover the true cost of the damage to the park and is serving only as a vanity project to the Council. Livid.
