  1. Terrible signal Bellenden Road way. They?ve spouted several reasons to me about phone masts over last two years but nothing has changed. I can?t make any phone calls from my house- I use whatsapp as the WiFi calling still needs a modicum of signal to work which I don?t have.
  2. Thanks all, I have written to the local councillors...not overly ambitious about change. I do already pick up rubbish when I'm out. Interesting to know if the bins are like that for fear of bomb threat. That York council poster is brilliant.
  3. I went for a run this morning in Peckham Rye, and as to be expected the bins were overflowing with lots of rubbish strewn around. I presume the same in Burgess Park and other parks in Southwark. Whilst the people bringing and leaving rubbish should take responsibility, perhaps the council could make this easier by installing better bins in Public Parks? e.g. larger bins, with lids that stop animals and birds from foraging. It would also be great to have recycling bins in the parks. Richmond council has just committed to doing this. This is a problem every summer but will obviously be worse this summer with social distancing advice. Anyone got any suggestions to get the council to take some action? Surely this is cheaper in the long run than having that poor man go around the park daily spending hours picking up litter.
  4. Don?t think it?s been decided yet. All change with the new 111 service.
  5. As someone who works in the hospital fairly regularly, I can tell you it is NOT fit for purpose for any healthcare facilities these days. I can only imagine the cost to renovate it would be astronomical. In the summer the rooms are so hot you have to have windows fully open, the clinical rooms are tiny, the water supply is erratic... It is a shame that it is not being preserved as I do agree it is a lovely building. HOwever I would guess only about 5-10% of it is being used currently. The new buildings will hold a junior school/main school and a fit for purpose healthcare centre. I don't think Seldoc will be there though.
  6. I would like to recommend Greg. He's just completed hanging some new doors, fitting skirting and overhauling some fitted cupboards for us. He was the only carpenter who suggested he could make modifications and improvements to our current cupboards, which has both saved us a lot of money and has a nice ecological feel to it. He also fixed my door lock when he noticed it was loose! Nice guy, works hard and very reasonable prices.
  7. Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend someone (either locally or not) who can repair broken ceramic items? I've got a beautiful large bowl that needs repairing. Thanks
  8. Well seeing as it?s disrupting the p13 route too then everyone, not just drivers are affected.
  9. Thanks Renata, Wasn?t it meant to be nighttime works only though? Or am I imagining that.
  10. This is causing chaos. I live near there and received notification about this but it was my understanding that the works were only going to be completed at night. They made mention to noise implications regarding this. Currently the only diversion is for traffic to go back down Bellenden road by Lidl and through the traffic lights which only let about one car through at a time onto Peckham road. Obviously they can't go round to camberwell grove as that bridge is still closed. So there is currently a massive queue to get anywhere and peckham road is gridlocked. I've just seen a car drive fairly agrresively the wrong way round the one way system and onto the blind corner of chadwick road. Is there anything that can be done about this? It seems like particularly poor planning.
  11. We need new wooden floorboards fitted in our front room as well as some tiles around fireplace/in fireplace hole. (not sure of correct terminology...) Can anyone recommend a fitter/handyman for the job?
  12. adding my recommendation - Steve is speedy, reasonably priced and a nice guy. Sorted our washing machine out in about 10 minutes.
  13. Just wanted to add my recommendation (a few months after they finished but never too late!) Bart and Peter were fantastic from start to finish. They replaced one bay and three other sash windows as well as a new front door and amazing under stairs cupboard. From the outset they were great at communicating, honest about prices and options we could have and prompt with their work. The understairs cupboard is amazing and just what I needed. We had a slight issue with the front door which they corrected very quickly. The windows look fantastic, and they tidied up/decorated all around the windows including painting all of the sills too which I wasn't expecting. Bart even came round with a couple of bottles of their home brew craft ale - very tasty and surprisingly strong! I would place them at the higher end of quotes that I got (sash windows aren't cheap anyway) but they were worth every penny as we're very pleased with the results.
  14. Hi, I need a reliable cleaner for our house who would also be willing to do some ironing once in a while. It would probably be 3 hours a week, preferably Tues/Wed/Thurs. Would be grateful if anyone could recommend their cleaner, or if anyone thinks they are suitable for the job please PM me including your details and hourly rate, thanks very much.
  15. I just wanted to put a review up for Benchmark Lofts as we had an excellent experience using them. They have done a fantastic job with our loft, they were tidy, polite, happy to let my toddler cause chaos and even finished exactly on time. They were also the only company to suggest a different configuration allowing us to avoid a macerator in the bathroom - and I'm really pleased with the layout. I found them through the forum and got several other quotes in too. They weren't the cheapest but were nowhere near the highest and overall the quality is great. Thomas is the main guy and is on site virtually every day so easy to ask questions and sort out any little issues. My daughter still asks when she can see him again!
  16. Thanks Rendel Harris...I've spoken to Virgin and they have confirmed there is a capacity issue around here too so are offering me ?8.50 off a month but can only backdate it 3 months. Apparently due to be fixed on 29th March...don't hold your breath! They said they would let me out of contract but as broadband is so poor and no BT fibre available not got many options.
  17. The reason all GP surgeries are struggling with appointments is because demand is wildly outstripping supply. Simply not enough GPs to go around, not many GPs wanting to take on jobs in practices because the workload is overwhelming, therefore most practices are running at 1-2 GPs less than they would need to offer full services. Plus, people expect same day appointments for minor issues that in the past there would have been some resilience about looking after yourself...hence escalating demand even further. Added to this the government funding is falling, not enough new GPs being trained and general GP bashing going on every day in the media (see Daily Mail). Be kind to your GP practices, they are all struggling.
  18. We've had virgin for the last year or so and whilst significantly better than old broadband, it is really patchy at times- e.g. Sunday evenings/most evenings and often not reliable to work from home. However we're se15- just off bellenden. Does anyone know if the 'capacity issue' is the same reason over here? Good to know before I call and negotiate a discount.
  19. Morelia, I think Parkrunner was referring to all the immunisations in general that Allbrick was proudly proclaiming to have avoided. Quite rightly herd immunity is important to protect people unable to be vaccinated for other health reasons and also to avoid large outbreaks. The BCG is most effective at preventing TB meningitis which is the severest form of TB and most likely to affect children. All that said and done, TB is really quite rare if you were born in the U.K. and you are considered low risk. 2/3 of TB cases even 10 years ago are from people born in other countries. Lambeth/Southwark/lewisham run programmes aimed at vaccinating children born in the most high risk families- i.e. From communities that have strong links to countries where TB is of high prevalence.
  20. No internet in maxted road too. Just spoke to Virgin and they are still working on it but it involves Going to Hammersmith/driving through busy tunnels/waiting for different engineers (this was the help desk man reading from the notes). Also, they've got 1km of cable to try and find the fault in and they haven't narrowed it down yet... Good news is the might try and rig up something to bypass the fault this evening.
  21. The skin of babies in their first few months can change almost every day, influenced by many different factors - withdrawing hormones as per Emse above, reaction to general substances in the environment etc. Your baby's skin has previously not been exposed to much whilst floating around in amniotic fluid. Acne is completely normal and can come in lots of different guises...and can be quite fleeting or take a while to fade. Unsightly but nothing to worry about.
  22. It would be weird if it was rent, especially as they did a large renovation to the site - put in the whole side return. Hopefully owner will be back in touch, I would crowdfund to keep them open!
  23. Really gutted about this. Lifesaver for entertaining small children. No idea if for financial reasons but Chocolate shop next door is moving due to rent increases. Seems very sudden - the manager wouldn't really tell me why they were closing, just suggested emailing the owner.

Not to defend DMC as for the most part I think the way the practice is run is rubbish BUT... You would be hard pushed to find any GP practice that had any of that equipment to hand - or GPs with up to date training to to use it! Best is some oxygen and basic life support ie CPR.
  25. Recommendation for Joe Hickey - 07557 949 929 - he's done a few jobs for us in our house: skirting, cupboards and shelving. All jobs were done excellently. He's very reasonably priced , friendly and trustworthy. He also fitted a tricky mirror for us for free. WOuld definitely use him again. We had quite a few quotes for carpenters and JOe was among the cheapest - but we were planning on doing the painting etc ourselves so that worked out well for us.
