  1. SR, a cast? Good point. Or maybe they had a key whose profile was quite close to mine, so it nearly opened the door, and they thought using Vaseline would let the mechanism move a little more and so ease open the lock. PG, no this was the front door. Des
  2. Thanks for the replies. I confirmed it's Vaseline. And, no, I don't share the door with others. Take care, everyone. Des
  3. I know. It's an odd subject line. But seriously... I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I came back home this afternoon, after being out for about an hour, to find Vaseline smeared around the Yale lock on my front door. Presumably, this is a sign of an unsuccessful break-in. The property has an alarm, which the perp would have experienced had they got in, and I've reported the incident to the police on 101. So I've probably done all I can for the moment apart from being a little more alert to goings-on when out and about in the area (probably a good thing) and being just a little more suspicious of folk (sadly, not so good). Just wondered if anyone's noticed anything similar, or has any thoughts. PM me if you'd prefer. Des
