  1. Pure fantasy, would require a whole new bunch of rolling stock and signal upgrades.
  2. I had the same issue with vibrations from the speed bumps outside my house. The solution is some serious bracing of the floor joists and coupling them to the wall structure. Together with triple glazed acoustic glass windows, my front rooms are near silent and vibration free.
  3. great idea, lets have 3 times the current number of resurfacing crews/plant and then pay them to be idle term time, then it can be done in school hols only! zoester Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > SebsC Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Living on Upland Road, it would have been nice > to > > have been informed beforehand that the top of > the > > road would be closed to traffic. 4. Figured so, M&S delivery artic was parked outside the other day on the crossing zig-zags mid-morning
  5. make a complaint to southwark and threaten to escalate to the local authority ombudsman, they pulled me in for an interview under caution when my builders went over by 10mins to 18:10 - disgraceful if the site was unsafe, they shouldn't have started work in the first place
  6. "So where can cars drop off and pick up passengers safely and within the driving regulations of denmark hill station?" The nearest is probably fox on the hill car park, but *shock horror* the passenger will have to use their legs and actually walk/waddle a bit.
  7. I look forward to seeing this case on daytime TV, probably narrated by Jamie Theakston
  8. write a letter stating how they have breached the contract and give 7 days to come up with a remedy before you take to small claims court send it recorded delivery, don't speak over the phone, just converse by email or letter most builders are of low iq and will roll over with the threat of legal action
  9. Banks lend on leasehold, and your lease is forfeit if you don't pay your ground rent or service charge - so, I don't see how Dulwich Estate properties are any different. Unless, there are some other restrictions in the covenant they don't like.
  10. Fulham timber in brixton, they deliver next day for ?6 Just buy regularised C16 timber - ie. the same stuff used for construction - it's planed and therefore a lot less warped than sawn or the crap they sell in B&Q
  11. i believe the reason for concentration is to reduce the volume of unique complaints. Less people affected but to a much higher degree, means less complaints especially if successive complaints are not counted in stats.
  12. And.. if the noise really bothers you then sort out your windows. Standard double glazing makes little difference, you need laminated glass of different thickness (4.8mm / 6.8mm). If you have UPVC get the units changed, if you have sashes then get double laminated units retrofitted. Fit secondary glazing with a big a spacing as possible. Gaps and poor seals on windows let the noise straight in. Plantation shutters or thick curtains are good as well.
  13. I'm on the middle of red post hill and get the P4 and 42 coming past, I find the 42's are very quiet.
  14. Seems to be permanently waterlogged. Ironic giving the neighbouring works to improve rain water management, don't know enough to say if related or not.
  15. I'm very happy for you, this a genuine cause for celebration.
  16. Just looked at 2013 accounts for dulwich college, ?1.9m total value of bursaries. Taking the other schools into account, I think it is safe to assume that almost all the dulwich estate income goes on bursaries. As for the toy shop, rents go up, it's a fact of business - and from what I can see the rise is not unreasonable. My wife has a small office from the crown estate, rent goes up 20-30% every 3 years on renewal. Personally, I think a small toy shop is going to have a very hard time surviving with the online competition.
  17. "The slower people drive the closer together they drive and pollution becomes more concentrated. Add to that the problem by more traffic controls cars are at a standstill with lights at red for up to 2 mins. Then pulling away with a 20 mph limit congestion builds up.. Cars also create more pollution at 20 mph with higher revs and being in lower gear. and an increase in noise.. " What utter nonsense, road capacity increases as the speed decreases, due to shorter stopping distances and smoother traffic flow. The faster your peak speed, the more energy you spend accelerating (F=MA) which is only wasted again when you brake (unless you have a hybrid). The engine is a lot more efficient as well at lower speed/rev. This is very basic physics.
  18. It could be your 'coal hole', heavy rain floods our cellar as well, need to seal around the coal hole and not the air holes in the middle
  19. Knotweed isn't that difficult to control (despite what companies say), just keep cutting it back every time you see it, there is only so much growth that any plant can make before it needs leaves to respire. Just keep culling it week after week in conjunction with affected neighbours. Also, other plants & trees in the garden will crowd it out. I've seen lots of naturally dead knotweed in a friends garden, the shrubs started growing in the spring and crowded it out nicely, and it all just died back.
  20. talk to your party wall surveyor perhaps serve them a notice, 6 months delay or not, if they don't respond then they agree by default... job done
  21. ah, so much righteous indignation from car users, how dare anyone else except themselves produce emissions
  22. they must leave the engine running to power the camera kit, ditto for police cars: radio, computer, ANPR etc
