Hi Jess, I have used Andy Travers (Andrew Travers) of Quadrant Building Control, I got him through recommendations on this forum. His fee is reasonable for a private building control. You would expect to pay about 20-25% more than the council but you get to deal with just one person through out your project, rather than the council, you just never know who you might get each time they come to inspect your project. In fact, he is due to come back for final inspection on our flat in East Dulwich soon. He is helpful and communicative. I would recommend him. Have a look at the Quadrant website. Hope this helps. I just want to add a thread to this post in case someone is looking for a fireplace installer. I contacted John (Avalon) after reading messages on here, he came round to quote on fitting a cast iron fire place, his price was reasonable and he installed the fireplace for us the following week. I would like to recommend him for his service. very reliable, reasonable price and most importantly, he does a good and professional job!

Hi Terrella, It sounds like a job for a structural engineer. I used Mike Royall to investigate subsidence issue when we bought our flat in East Dulwich. He seemed ok and I think he charge me for a site visit and report for less than ?400. Hope this helps. Willy.
