  4. This is the first gallery showing by a young artist I met last year. I was lucky enough to attend Jamie Evans? final degree show in London where I purchased my first ever major piece of artwork. (This is now hanging in my lounge). His work uses a number of different media and ranges from large scale canvasses to smaller drawings. I'd highly recommend you to attend the private opening of his exhibition. "Asymmetric Yellow is the debut solo exhibition of up-and-coming painter Jamie Evans, based in Newcastle Upon-Tyne, whose work blends a graffiti-inspired aesthetic with fine art technique. Evans, 24, from Ashington, Northumberland initially developed his skills on the streets of the North East, before turning his attention to the canvas as his appreciation of the wider art world grew. Asymmetric Yellow - a reference to his ongoing quest to balance two seemingly opposing forces - will run at 5th Base gallery in Heneage St, London, from October 31st to November 5th. "The ideology behind my work comes from my background in graffiti, I consider myself a participant in shaping the world around me, not a spectator; However, the methods I employ are very traditional - carefully priming canvases the correct way, making my own oil paint from pigment, taking care to source the best possible quality materials available to me. I?ll then mix that together with spray paint in ways that create something uniquely new with great vibrancy. Graffiti taught me that things don?t last forever, but in my art I?m looking for longevity - so again, it?s a matter of bringing together those forces that don?t necessarily sit side by side. Some see graffiti and fine art as things that can?t be merged, but the show represents the culmination of my efforts to join two elements of art that I have an equal love for." Since graduating from a BA in fine art at Newcastle University in 2015, Jamie has exhibited in shows in Newcastle and Bremen, Germany. And recently, he was commissioned by Rocnation to spray paint a piano for singer Emeli Sand? as she prepares to go tour. ?I see my art as positivity - positive vibration - and when I look at a blank canvas or a wall outside, I?m inspired to turn what I see in my mind into a physical reality. Painting is very intuitive to me. I don?t think too much about it, it just comes out fluently.? Jamie, who works seven days a week in his studio at Bamburgh House, Newcastle, has been supported by patron, Dean Coyle, whose generosity has funded the solo show. Asymmetric Yellow will open on the 31st October at 06.30PM.
  5. THE DULWICH PLAYERS Present The Coarse Acting Plays By Michael Green, Rupert Bean & Simon Brett, with music & Lyrics by John Gould Wednesday 26th October, Thursday 27th October, Friday 28th October at 8pm & Saturday 29th October 2016 at 7.30pm in the Great Hall, Alleyn's School, Townley Road, SE22 8SU Never restrained by their many, many shortcomings the Sir James Smallbone Theatrical Society, fuelled by self-delusion, pomposity and a, unrequited, love of the theatre, will be staging the Society's Annual Jubilee Festival of the Dramatic Arts. A last minute change of venue, double booked with a less than charitable charity event all add to the evening's mayhem. The Dulwich Players in the guise of Sir James Smallbone's finest dare to look at the less accomplished side of amateur dramatics. The four, mercifully, short plays being presented for your entertainment will be 'Streuth' (a little known murder mystery play); 'Pride of Southanger Park '(a previously unknown regency drama); 'The Cherry Sisters' (an undiscovered early Chekhov fragment) and to round off the evening, the stirring romantic musical that is the 'The Vagabond Prince'. The intrepid casts have to battle against the laws of Coarse Acting, where actors fail to appear, props fall to piece, effects fail and fellow actors remember everyone else's lines but their own. Confusion reigns in a joyous evening of comic theatrical fun. Tickets: ?10 (?12 on the door) Available from Dulwich Players Box Office: Email : [email protected] or phone 07936 531356 Online: www.dulwichplayers.org (Ticketsource) And Art Stationers, Dulwich Village This amateur production of the Coarse Acting Plays is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD.

  7. The Dulwich Players are excited to stage a new translation of Federico Garc?a Lorca?s masterpiece The House of Bernarda Alba from 18-21 February (8pm) at the Edward Alleyn Theatre. Obsessed with respectability and honour, Bernarda Alba rules her house with a rod of iron. Her second husband has just died and in line with family tradition she declares an eight-year period of mourning, effectively incarcerating her daughters. Feelings run high when it is discovered not only that the eldest daughter from Bernarda's first marriage has inherited a large amount of money, but that she is now set to marry the most eligible man in the village, Pepe el Romano, who has transferred his affections from the headstrong youngest daughter, Adela, to the much older Angustias. Despite warnings, Bernarda refuses to see the destructive forces at play within her household until it is too late. A powerful and compelling new translation of Lorca's master work. 18. Unsurprisingly he did not show up. Nor do I expect him ever to darken my doorstep unless it is to break in one night - I even showed him how the window cleaners could get in unassisted into the back garden !! (I must have been in la-la land yesterday) The cheeky s*d even gave me his mobile number (07951900809 ) which I phoned there and then to check it was valid. Since then I googled the number and it came up on a website called " WHOCALLSME" http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/07951900809 and it showed tha this chap has been quite active in South ast London But the local police have been very helpful and did not laugh too much. And I have put in extra security. The police did say that more people should come forward and tell them if they have a similar experience and not to feel embarrassed - it happens to the best of us! (I am going to put up one of those signs my parents have " No hawkers, circulars, callers, etc.... etc...... because a gullible fool lives here!! )
  19. I am writing this feeling very embarrassed and angry as I think I have been scammed by the same chap; well and truly! A stocky chap , 45 - 50, short hair, blue sweat shirt , jeans , trainers. He offered to do windows. claimed to be part of ECLIPSE cleaners working in area. Said his name was Jez. Paid him up front to do windows AND clean guttering to the tune of ?40. I have reported it to local crime officer. Chap is meant to be coming back at 4pm today. some hope. Just letting you know so be warned and don't be as daft as me!! I have no excuse for being so trusting.
  20. Brian Greene at the Art stationers in the village may know. There used to be a local Amateur Dramatic Group, The Village Players who joined with the Dulwich Theatre Group about 40 years ago to form the Dulwich Players. The web site is dulwichplayers.org.uk. I am sure they would be very interested to see pictures. Some of the current members are well over 80 and may also know something about the album. Good luck
