  1. Firstly I apologise for what may be a really boring post, but we are just starting the process of getting quotes for a long awaited loft conversion. And I have just discovered the word Megaflow. Who knew plumbing could sound so exciting. Anyway, the company we like the most is saying they highly, highly recommend us doing away with our cold water tank and installing a Megaflow system instead. At a cost of ?5k + VAT. According to them the noise of the water tank refilling in the eves when someone goes to the toilet in the night will drive us insane, no matter how much soundproofing they put around it. In their words "just ask anyone who has done a loft and not done away with their water tank", so I am. We have a newly installed condenser boiler (2 years old), the water pressure in the house is great, big hot water tank, plenty of hot water no matter how many taps are running at the same time, all lovely jubbly, so other than the noise of the tank filing up I am wondering if this is really money well spent. Any advice most welcome. And apologies it is rather dull and not about Waitrose, M&S Food, or PIcturehouse Cinemas Thanks Fred
  2. Yes - diesels have them and it is 4x4s simply because they are higher off the ground and the little gits can get under the car easily without the hastle of jacking them up first.
  3. Hi There is a new crime in town - people are sawing through the exhaust systems of 4x4's and cutting off the catalytic converter to sell the contents (platinum) to unscrupulous metal dealers (for about ?100). Our Discovery was done this weekend and the repair bill is ?750 as they need to not only replace the entire exhaust but dimantle the engine manifold as they are sawing off the pipe just as it exits the engine. It leaves the remaining part of the exhaust lying on the road surface. According to our local garge this is the 3rd one they have had in this week. Kwik Fit said exactly the same. They tend to do it during the day (as it looks like they are just carrying out repairs on car) and use a hand held recipricating hack saw which can cut through the exhaust in about 5 minutes. They tend to have a look out to alert the person under the car that a passer by is coming, at which point he will stop sawing momentarily. If you see anyone underneath a 4X4 as you are looking out of your window please alert the police as they are almost deinately up to no good.
  4. Hi We are moving from East Dulwich to Nunhead. Some info off findaproperty.com's guide to SE15 - The south-eastern boundary of SE15 is the long sweep of Ivydale Road, a popular and very long road of Victorian terraces, and hemmed in between this, the Aquarius Golf Course and the Cemetery is the quieter quarter of Nunhead, a permanently in-demand grid of terraced cottages.SE15 is the postcode to be at the moment, nowhere else is attracting such plaudits and the days when Nissan Cars could advertise a motor with the words "Built to tackle the most inhospitable places on earth - including Peckham" are firmly in the history books. No matter how many times they repeat 'Only Fools and Horses'. I love ED but we have been priced out of the area for a 4 bed house - we haven't got ?700k to spend! Make me feel better!
  5. We are moving to Nunhead. leaving East Dulwich behind! We love ED, but the house prices have forced us out. With a little bay girl we wanted a bigger house, a bigger garden and some space. Hmmmm. In ED that would cost us nearly ?700k probably. Nunhead is the next East Dulwich. There are some fantastic properties there and the house prices are starting to rise rapidly as people like me get forced to the ED fringes. Schools aren't the best but hopefully in a few years as others move in that should change. You can't base your entire life on school catchment areas at the end of the day.
