The lecture focuses on the link between the Barry Buildings, at the very heart of the College, and the Houses of Parliament. Two generations of the Barry family were at the axis of both of these large, high profile projects. We will be looking back to their design and creation and their empathetic recent restoration. The Laboratory and its state of the art technology and twenty-first century award winning design is the focus of the second part of the lecture and how it complements the Barry Buildings on the College campus. The 11th GE Moore lecture discusses Anthony Kersting OA, the leading architectural photographer of his generation. Anthony, who discovered his love of photography while at Dulwich College in the 1930s, died in 2008, and bequeathed his entire collection of 150,000 photographs to the Courtauld Institute of Art. Tom Bilson, Head of Digital Media at The Courtauld Institute of Art and Richard Wilding, Producer and Photographer, will discuss and reflect on his life and work. Over 500 young men were killed in the Great War from Dulwich College. Dr. Nick Black will talk about the new College website detailing their lives, war and death alongside the authors of the BBC dramatisation 'The Wiper's Times' and Jeremy Deller OA and Turner prize-winning artist, will talk about his award winning installation "We're here because we're here" which was performed nationwide on 1 July 2016 to mark the Battle of the Somme. Our ninth GE Moore Lecture is ?Played in Dulwich ? Charting the heritage and future of an estate at play?. Simon Inglis, a heralded sports writer, considers the unique place that Dulwich has played within the history of sport in our capital. No other area within London has the same credentials and Simon will discuss what the future is for this overtly green area of south London. The lecture will be complimented by Daniel Norcross OA, author of ?Test Match Sofa?, reflecting on cricket?s current state of play, especially in schools and, just as importantly, its future. Highly acclaimed sports portraits by Henry Fraser OA will be on display, demonstrating how Henry has turned a personal tragedy into a triumph of artistic skill and creativity. The evening is hosted by Dan Cruickshank, BBC broadcaster, who will be delving into the lives of the fascinating Barry dynasty, including Charles Barry Jnr, designer of the buildings at the very heart of Dulwich College since the 1860s. The work of Sir George Gilbert Scott will also be discussed, which alongside the Barrys? designs, creates a significant picture of architecture in the late 19th century Britain.
