  1. Totally agree redjam, it's so depressing. I walk past it twice a day and it infuriates me. What a wasted opportunity to create an innovative and thoughtful piece of architecture. Maybe it was the planners but why oh why build a mock Victorian house and then do it with so little integrity. The interior is incredibly ugly too. If you're going to pretend it's a period property at least put down a decent hardwood floor (their flooring makes me want to weep)
  2. ah I like that one, this is the one that irks me http://www.acorn.ltd.uk/property-for-sale/4-bedroom-house-in-landcroft-road-east-dulwich-se22-P210982/
  3. I wish they had built it out of Lego, it would have looked a million times better.
  4. Just wanted to give Darren a big shout out for a great job. He fixed a mystery hole in the facing at the front of the house. Quickly completed and under budget! I would say feel free to come and have a look at the completed job but he's fixed it up so you can't even tell where the work was done :) Can't recommend him highly enough.
  5. Not an emergency but need a new lock fitted on the front door as husband has expertly lost his keys. Ta!
  6. I've noticed a hole in the soffit (think it's the soffit, my roofing knowledge is pretty rubbish)above our bedroom window (first floor, Victorian terrace.) Hole is around 30cm in length and worryingly the rafters are visible. Not sure what has caused it, possibly an animal or bird, don't think it's a leak but will be investigating the roof cavity. If anyone can recommend a reliable and knowledgeable roofer or builder it would be appreciated.
  7. Forest East Dulwich is the Fresh Flower Company's other store on Frogley Road (Fresh Flower Workshop). It's lovely!
  8. Me too! I'm on the waiting list and think I'll probably be dead by the time a space comes up ;)
  9. I'd say that 2k sounds about right although you could probably negotiate it down a bit. It's usually around ?150 per day not including VAT for one person on the job but can be more like ?200. The painting and prep of walls/ceiling is the most straightforward but doors, banisters, skirtings etc can hike up the price due to the prep work involved. They'll need to be sanded and primed prior to paining and this is the time consuming bit. As a guide we had the inside of 2 bedroom sash windows and that took the decorator the best part of two days in prep. To be fair they were knackered but it's not a cheap job. If I were you I'd ask for a breakdown of the job, hall/staircase/doors. I would imagine that it's the staircase and doors which will take up a fair percentage of the cost.
  10. I?m going to regret this but here goes?..Favourite filling is cheese. Cheese from a shop that I have queued to get into having worked a 5 day week with a commute and the only time I can buy said cheese for said Tart/Flan/Quiche is on a Saturday when unsurprisingly other people like me queue too! Pastry made with some lovely french butter because it?s delicious. Oh and maybe a bit of meat (I am quite partial to a Quiche Lorraine) which I also queue for on a Saturday because I have no other option. But wait, I could by these ingredients for a quarter nay half the price in a supermarket and not queue at all (well maybe just a little bit, but it?s an entirely different sort of queue). But I don?t bloody want to. I want to buy decent ingredients, support local businesses and I can afford it and I?m not ashamed of that. And sometimes on a hot evening I will shamelessly sit outside a pub or restaurant because it?s pleasant and might be a bit cooler (just to be clear, that?s temperature not a reflection of my wanton vanity). In the colder months I may even sit in the window looking out to the street and watch the world go by. Ah the forum the gift that keeps on giving. Sorry, rant over. Tried to keep it on topic though Admin ;)
  11. Excellent timing! i don't suppose that you are available this Saturday to pick up a bookcase (quite large and heavy) from a New Cross address and deliver to an East Dulwich address? Should be an hours job max. Cheers!
  12. Can anyone recommend a good made to measure blind maker? My father has given me some old bus destination 'blinds' which I'd like made up into roller blinds for a few windows in our office and spare room. They are in variable condition and would definitely need be be backed on to a new canvas/material before constructing into usable blinds.
  13. Ha! would never turn my nose up at any gin tbh ;)Am a terrible klepto after too many martini's. our glass collection has a few 'procured' examples. never from Tippler though would like to add if they are watching ;)) and never knock a cocktail cherry, except in a cake bleuggh.
  14. In ED give Tippler a try. Their cocktail menu is very small BUT the staff (bar and serving) are brilliant and knowledgeable and will mix something up to your taste. Cocktails in Yama Momo are also good and will challenge your taste buds ;) Palmerston also have a small selection of classic cocktails but I've always been a bit disappointed, martini was somewhat watery but their bellini's were ok. It can get expensive to do it yourself if you want to use different spirits, bitters etc but if you have a tipple of choice then worth getting the basics in so you can mix one up when you feel the need. I have about 15 different gins but I am somewhat of a martini addict. I would advise against Bombay or Gordons (Gordon's Export is a different beast and always worth getting if you're at the airport but if you want to keep the cost down then Beefeater is a brilliant gin for cocktails and it's local! Distillery is just down the road in Vauxhall, literally 5 mins from my office, keep meaning to visit but still haven't got round to it!
  15. Thanks for the heads up, no, we don't have a motorbike or push bike for that matter. Odd, and there's nothing of worth in the front other than some quite nice window boxes full of very unhappy sun scorched plants. Due to the recent thefts of garden paraphernalia I'm going to put them round the back for now. Don't want to encourage the bastards.
  16. Dutiful husband has done already and was supposed to have emailed it to me but so far nowt ;)
  17. So this morning a neighbour alerted my husband to the fact that last night a man (don't have a description) came up to our house and left a chalk mark on the exterior and thinks it was done to a couple of other properties in the street. Possibly some scumbag scouting for houses to break into (they will be sorely disappointed by the cracked iPad and 15 year old telly and angry cat if they do!) Neighbour has reported it to the police and I'm currently waiting for 101 to answer so that I can report it too. Might be worth checking your exteriors.
  18. Have you letterboxed Rodwell or Heber Road? Might be worth it as I live on Rodwell and there are quite a few ginger boys (I've got one too) who hang around.
  19. We have a blocked macerator toilet and looking for a decent plumber to sort it out. Husband has tried everything and has finally admitted defeat.
  20. Looking for any recommendations for a handyman/decorator to sand a painted bedroom floor and then potentially varnish or paint it afterwards. Cheers!
  21. Can you send me the details of the Vet service you used? We have a horribly stressed puss who vomits & other nasties whenever we take him in the car. Would be great to try out a home visit instead!
  22. Unfortunately I couldn't make it to the meeting last night and haven't received a hard copy yet but I've filled in the survey online. I only live two roads away so count myself extremely lucky to have this resource so close to hand.
  23. I lived in Tooting(Bec)for years and would wait on average for 3-4 tubes to go past before being able to squeeze on. Once it got to Balham it was impossible and I knew people who would get the tube down to Tooting Broadway so they had a better chance of getting on. When I moved to Clapham Common I gave up completely and got the bus to Vauxhall. The other day I had to get the tube from Oval (at around 7.30) and waited for 15 minutes before I could get on not complaining though, that's the reality of travelling in rush hour. ED is brilliantly served for London Bridge (when the trains run) and I'd much prefer getting the bus to work. Yes it takes a while but I'm generally more relaxed, get a seat most days and can hop off and walk if the traffic is shit. I do agree that the cycle lanes around Vauxhall have seriously slowed bus travel and the cycle lanes are not widely used but that's life. Would rather be stuck on a bus than tube any day.
