New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham
BrandNewGuy replied to LondonMix's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Ooh, Arabica would be good. The fella who owns it lives/lived locally and did great local deliveries during the first lockdown. Did the whole thing ? web orders, cooking, delivery... -
Excellent!

Keep eyes and ears open for the arrival of the swifts... must be any day now, I hope. Here's my list of the first recorded swifts in ED since 2011 (from the forum and my own observations): 2011 ? East Dulwich Jubilee Street Parties
BrandNewGuy replied to Spartacus's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think locally-organised street parties are great > fun. > The excuse to hold one - who cares ?! Spot on. I don't believe in Jesus, either, but it doesn't stop me celebrating Christmas. Loved the golden jubilee street party when the kids were small. Brought the TV out into the front garden to watch the World Cup at the same time :) -
Yes, summer's 'late developers' don't breed then, but hibernate and breed in spring.

I saw a few comma butterflies around this afternoon while in the garden (see photo). Dull brown underwing, but very attractive 'on top'.

Quite a number of shops on (or just off) Crystal Palace triangle - especially Crystal Palace Antiques

The DEC pledge is separate. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/ukraine-uk-pledges-another-80million-in-aid-to-help-ukraine-deal-with-humanitarian-crisis

The Disasters Emergency Committee coordinates lots of reputable charities - plus donations are matched by the government up to ?20 million. And you can GiftAid on top of that: https://www.dec.org.uk/appeal/ukraine-humanitarian-appeal

Ah, thanks! I'll try them...

Does anyone know a local stockist for Irish newspapers? I'd like to get hold of some this weekend, but since the demise of the Irish shop on Lordship Lane, I wouldn't know where to go.

Most Saturday matches recently have sold out online before Saturday, so it's probably wise to get tickets in advance: https://www.seetickets.com/tour/dulwich-hamlet-fc-v-chelmsford-city-fc-nls-

From another thread: ?be on the right side of history?. Urgh! It's as if we're all inevitably on some lovely upward path to enlightenment. A fatuous reading of history, morality and 'progress'. -
Well, if you are a shareholder, you've made a pretty p*sspoor investment given the performance of the rest of the stock market over the past eight years.

They're a recent species on these shores, but they'd only be regarded as 'invasive' if they pushed any indigenous species out of their ecological 'niches'. There's no evidence that they do that, so as far as I'm concerned they're welcome.

Price of a pint of Beer in the Lane
BrandNewGuy replied to JCoftheN's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As Foxy says, there is perfectly good ale on sale at less than ?4 a pint. And these days there are lots of different beers available with lots of different strengths, so without knowing what you're buying, just saying "?6.50 for a pint of beer" doesn't tell us very much. It's like saying "?15 for a bottle of wine". -
The council have the responsibility of keeping it clean - and it's great to have space for wildlife and people that isn't a manicured park. We're incredibly lucky to have such a quiet open green space. Let's keep it that way.

I'm not sure about "doing fine and dandy". The development was absolutely integral to the planned long-term financial viability of the club in its present location. Delays and lack of news don't help that situation.
