    Conley & Co

Having been impressed with the plans Conley & Co drew up for our bedroom and bathroom refurbishment we decided to employ them in February 2019. We were assured that the job would take 7 weeks so with all the money (a hefty five figure sum) for materials paid upfront (bar ?3k) we went ahead in good faith. Little did we realise this would signal the start of a 7 month (yes SEVEN MONTH) saga that dominated our lives. Early on in the job one of our ceilings collapsed on account of rotten beams. This could have had a catastrophic outcome but fortunately no-one was sleeping in the room below at the time. This heralded the start of a catalogue of many unfortunate incidents. Communication deteriorated as the work progressed and we were forced to project manage the job ourselves as the firm reacted very badly when we flagged up legitimate concerns. There were days on end when the builders were on site awaiting materials that we naively assumed had been ordered at the start of the job. We assumed that once we had paid for materials at the start of the job the materials would be ordered and delivered. Ultimately the firm walked away leaving a snagging list untouched, no guarantees for the job and no closure of the project. We refused to pay the final balance as this was the only recourse we had against the failings of this project. The end result? The pleasures of a fine looking space in which to sleep and wash have been massively outweighed by the stress of the job, and lack of accountability by this company. We are 2 aggrieved clients who are trying to warn people before they appoint this firm.
  4. We're on Upland Road too, with car on the driveway and the road. We installed a NEST camera a year ago on account of our horrific neighbours. It so far has proved an invaluable deterrent. So sorry to hear about your theft.
  5. Can anyone please recommend a solicitor locally. We are looking to take action against a firm of builders. Thank-you in advance.
  6. We passed the site at 1550 and there were 2 Thames Water Vans with men inside - one looked like he was fast asleep at the wheel. British Engineering at its best.
  7. Thanks for all your replies. I was simply hoping that someone might know the owners. I wonder if it's their holiday vehicle but given how long it's been there it seems unlikely. Amazed that Rodwell Rd residents don't seem to mind it.
  8. When trying to enter Rodwell Road from Crystal Palace Road by car the job is made considerably harder by the fact that a CamperVan (reg J69 BRA) is parked virtually at the mouth of Rodwell Road. It's been here for months, is really badly parked and basically a nuisance. Please move it. Thanks.
  9. Kevin came over last week to remove our old piano. He was punctual, efficient and good value for money. Would certainly use again.
  10. We have a very old piano which we'd be happy to give away but have been advised it's really only good now for firewood which is a great shame. We're looking for someone to come and take it away. Thanks.
  11. Louise is really great at what she does. She has just done a wonderful job in a bedroom at our house, making good the floorboards and painting them. The room has been transformed. This is the 5th time I've asked her to do something and every single time she does a great job. She's fun to have around, reliable and very good value for money. Will be using again to do another room very soon.
  12. I'm not clear what 'Amno' means.
  13. If anyone knows the owner of the huge van that has been left for the last 3 weeks on the corner of Upland Road and Dunstans Road, then PLEASE get them to move it. It's parked in such a way that it is almost impossible to pull out of Upland Road as the van is obscuring oncoming traffic on Dunstans Road. Thanks for reading this.
  14. Does anyone use an agency that they rate highly? If so please let me know. Thanks very much.

  16. I wonder if anyone has managed to reach Cllr Barber of late? I have an ongoing issue which he helped me with at the start of summer but now I can't get hold of him. Thoughts?
  17. I'm looking for two people to braid hair at an 11 year old's birthday party. It's at the end of September. There will be about 8 guests. Thanks and please pm me if you're interested!
  18. We need one tile removing in our bathroom in order to get access to some lighting cabling. We do not have a backup or replacement tile so this needs doing properly by a very good tiler. The tile is surrounded by silicone rather than grouting. Please do not contact if you're inexperienced as I can't lose this tile. Thanks very much.
  19. We needed new bathroom lights and Tom did a great job replacing them. He was on time, tidy and really pleasant to have around. I'd definately use him again.
  20. Peter and his team supplied and fitted a new boiler for us recently. It was a difficult job as they had to put a larger unit into a pre-existing small space. They were prompt, tidy and efficient. The boiler is working like a dream (no more getting up at 6am to fire up the old one). Would not hesitate to use again. A great service all round.
  21. We are looking for someone to lift up some tiles on our roof so that we can install some soundproof material around two speakers. Small-ish job and roof is not hard to access but it requires a professional. Thanks very much.
  22. Our lawn needs scarifying, apparently. I'm not entirely sure what this involves but apparently the end result is miraculous. Can anyone recommend someone who does this sort of thing? Thanks.
  23. We have a Baumatic Wine Fridge that has stopped working. It's not the fuse.
  24. Jeremiah from ShinyShine Cleaning did an excellent job today. Well priced and efficient service. Would certainly use again.
