We have invited the whole community to help build the very first Sydenham Community poem. All we asked was for anything connected with Sydenham: personal, public, good, challenging. Part of the 2016 Sydenham Arts Summer Festival 1-10 July 2016 The Artists Trail team invite you to take a tour of central Sydenham and the fringes of Forest Hill to meet artists in their homes, take part in their workshops and enjoy art in the high street. Visit the sub-site now: http://sydenhamarts.co.uk/artists-trail/ The Artists Trail has three main ?clusters? of open houses: on and around Sydenham Road; on and around Mayow Park and on and around Dacres Road. This year there are more group exhibitions: old favourites the Brockley Potters will be at Normanton Street Methodist Church on the first weekend with Adult Learning Lewisham exhibiting there during the second weekend; the Painting for Pleasure art group are at Perry Rise Baptist Church on both Saturdays; nine artists, including printmakers, jewellers, photographers, sculptors and woodcarvers together with a stunning site specific installation, will be showing at Dacres Wood Nature Reserve and Field Centre on both weekends; the Lovely Gallery Open exhibition showcases the work of more than 100 artists and will be open on most days during the festival; finally don?t miss the ?Sellotape Sculpture and Beyond? exhibition by home-educated and schooled children ? the next generation of Sydenham artists. Kei Miller won the 2014 Forward Prize for his work ?The Cartographer Tries to Map a Way to Zion? ?which Hilary Mantel chose as one of her favourite books of 2014. He ?speaks and sings with rare confidence and authority? (Lorna Goodison). Mona Arshi has created a storm of appreciation with her debut ?Small Hands?, winning the Forward Prize for best first collection last year. A tender book about the interplay of culture and the loss of a family member.   10. An interactive concert for families with the vibrant young recorder ensemble Palisander. Hear tales of spies, space and spiders and wonder at recorders of all shapes and sizes ? from six inches to six feet tall! Award winning quartet, Palisander, has performed in a variety of places, from Brighton Early Music Festival to London Fashion Week. Palisander gives regular workshops and family concerts, including in the Wigmore Hall?s Chamber Tots series.
