Our next meeting is Wednesday 8th January at the Clockhouse in the upstairs Blake room. On November 23 we will announce the World Book Night titles and open the application process to be a book giver. But this year will be a little different and for the first time there are two ways to volunteer to take part. As in previous years we're aiming to reach the 35.2% of adults in this country who don't regularly read via a network of book givers who'll sign up to give copies of one of 20 specially chosen and produced books. We're looking specifically for individuals or institutions who can demonstrably reach these people. In addition, for the first time, we're looking to build a true army of book-loving volunteers. We want everyone who wants to take part in World Book Night to have a chance to participate, so we're introducing a new way of volunteering. All we're asking is for volunteers to commit to give at least one book to someone who doesn't regularly read on April 23. It can be any book, bought specially or taken from your shelves, but we'll be providing lots of guidance and resources (including stickers and book plates to explain that the book is part of World Book Night). And of course if you can and want to give more than one book, then that's great. We're setting our sights high and by 2017 we hope there'll be 100,000 World Book Night volunteers across the UK and Ireland ? and that you'll be one of them. It went quietly through last October. It's now illegal to clamp a car on private property but as a concession they made the tickets enforceable.

Be careful, the law changed last October and these are now enforceable.

Just to remind you we are meeting next Wednesday 18th in the Clockhouse at 8.00pm in the upstairs Blake room. I started off hating our current book but now 2/3 way through I am thoroughly enjoying it so be patient it's worth it. We also need to discuss our December meal and are we going to read the book by the local author which I wrote to you about a while ago. And we have been selected for the PG Woodhouse books so we also need to discuss. Blimey. From the local author: Dear Charles, When I heard about your reading group I was very eager to contact you. I hope you don?t mind. I am a secondary school teacher who has written a humorous novel based on my experiences and I am hoping you will add my book to your reading lists. I believe you would find the story entertaining. The book is very light hearted and would appeal to anyone with a keen sense of humour. If your group were to include my book on your programme I would be pleased to provide background information prior to reading. I would also be quite happy to undertake an internet based question and answer session afterwards. I hope you will give me the opportunity to enjoy some lively discussion with your members.
