  1. It's what they need to charge given high rents, staff wages and other costs. I strongly doubt they'll be making much profit even charging £30 for a rotisserie chicken.... in 2025. Rotisserie Jules used to charge £14 ish I think before covid, the sector is in a lot of trouble these days. Lots of places will end up closing as the economics don't work.
  2. So it looked 10x as nice in the 19th century as it does now?
  3. Wow look at those prices, 4 shillings for a guiness extra stout, 2 and 6 for Burton's dinner ale. Selling porter in 2 gallon (16 pint?) jars. Delivery any hour and for free? They knew how to live in 1880 by the look of it!
  4. Marked on google as being permanently closed, probably another victim of the very difficult economy.
  5. The Post Offices and the Royal Mail should be renationalised. Massive mistake privatising industries where competition doesn't work properly and certainly does not offer any advantage to end users.
  6. Yeah but the colour of the rosette makes all the difference..?
  7. How low would you have to be to do something like this? I do hope the police are actually investigating this, there must be CCTV all over the place around there so it shouldn't be hard to find who's responsible. If they actually try...
  8. Probably, though presumably some of them must be losing money, there must be debt to service or other issues to cause the administration. At macro level, there are probably too many similar businesses for them all to survive. I find myself wondering similar about all the cafe's we have now.
  9. TFL need revenue so no surprise here... Got to get it from somewhere.
  10. Not an easy time for pubs and any business that needs discretionary spending in an ever more competitive environment amongst squeezed disposable incomes. Also see:
  11. Green landslide incoming :)?
  12. Pretty certain EU countries can't charge VAT on education due to the EU VAT directive mandating it. I hope we appreciate the irony, anyway. I think there is plenty of space in local schools, the birth rate has collapsed in the last 10 years.
  13. What is opening next to the EDT where there was a clothes shop before iirc? Saw a license application in the window on the way past today.
  14. Unfortunately a lot of people are very naïve, which plays in to their hands, I recommend reading this: https://www.propertysolvers.co.uk/articles/why-do-estate-agents-lie/
  15. Be very careful about what the estate agent tells you and make sure you independently verify it... They have no obligation to be honest with you..., usually the reverse in fact, they'll often just tell you what you want to hear to get the deal done.
