  6. oh dear. Ireland losing to the ruskies. Northern ireland playing italy in an exciting nights footie.
  7. How about a genetic redistribution of intelligence. Clever parents to be taxed on their smart genes and asked to allocate them to children of parents that are more challenged. Likewise stupid genes go the other way. I think this is a good long term solution to a fairer society. Who could possibly object? It all for the sake of fairness.
  8. I think the footie returns next saturday.
  9. Easy Sean, my wife and boyfriends read this forum. Anyway - Either the hypnotherapy worked or it was uneventful. I don't remember anything.

As Quids and I can confirm - we were out for one of the unoffical EDF summer drinks and Out of Focus seemed to have a lot of girlies wanting to chat to him. Is that the sort of thing you meant Brendan......
  11. Ok - new thread. To what extent is intelligence genetic.
  12. Mentioned by the honourable Mr Quids in another thread. In my experience not everyone believes in this concept. (I assume heir intelligence means genetic intelligence).

  14. We have been through all of this before jeremy. I said a fair proportion of the blame lies with the US. Of course there were other factors. but id like to know how much of the bad debt that was found to be in the uk banks originated in the US as compared to their own lending. Also how much of the debt that was written off by the banks prior to the govt bailout was / is actually worthless. Has any of it since been written up?
  15. gosh you are a wise old owl Sean. All these people joshing and saying careless things. Oh if only we were young again.
  16. Let's try putting at least a fair proportion of the blame at the doors of the US Govt who told the US people that they could all have a home loan even though they have no salary, and then their banks sold their useless loans around the world and our banks picked up the tab. How the US did not have to front up for this to the rest of the world, I'll never know.
  17. Yes - a dull job for a dull boy. I get your drift.

It is in this case Hal. The foreign investors are not taxed, but 20% of the profit generated on their investments is attributed to the UK resident fund manager for the benefit of mostly UK beneficiaries and taxed in the UK at either corporate tax rates, capital gains tax or employment tax rates.

Their role is to make money for their investors, and to the extent that they are successful, they take a cut. So their earnings cost the UK nothing. Bearing in mind that a lot of this investor money comes from outside the UK, their success brings taxes to the UK from money that would not otherwise be here. These taxes are used to fund public sector expenditure. This is the benefit of having a successful financial services industry in the uk. Tax it more or put obstacles in its way and the money closely followed by the indistry, will go elsewhere. When public sector employees cry foul of the banking industry they should consider this.
