  1. arsenal fail to deal with ashley coles left wing presence and his perfect crosses from the left. Twice gallas allowed the cross to get past him and 2 goals. Arsenal are all possession and no punch. Wenger has work to do but surely no way back.
  2. The Catholic church gives a lot of support to a lot of people. The st vincent de paul society is an example of the good that they do for the poor in the catholic community. The majority of people within it are well meaning but unfortunately they teach people to have blind faith in God, the priesthood and the dogma. Thex are unwilling to change their teachings to deal with the modern challenges such as aids in africa and therefore there is a genuine question mark as to whether they do more harm than good. Of course they should not get state funding for education as children are then brainwashed with their teachings and of course if taught in school then children accept it as something they should learn and accept. Children trust teachers and teachers teach them to trust priests. Schools have great power to influence children and there should therefore be no state funded religious schools. Religion should be for families to teach in the home if so inclined. And of course priests should be made an example of if they abuse their power. Im hoping long sentences are handed out to the priests of dublin, and anywhere else it arises.
  3. He won then. That will make the gold cup interesting if he and KS are at their best. A mouthwatering prospect but lots to happen between now and then.
  4. Ok - I don't remember the period they referred to - guessed it was the 60s, but to be honest I can't remember - but they said it none the less.
  5. Morning Line says Denman very strong but giving barber shop more than a stone which makes it very difficult. He might lose today and still win the gold cup. But shortening on the exchanges. On level weights he would be unstoppable but i usually avoid top weight horses so im not sure what to do. But please post the result here and i will check it out later.
  6. maybe you are thinking late 60s early 70s Jah. Ali did not even win the title for the first time until 64.
  7. Interesting that JC, had in the 1960s, a TV recognition rating of 3 - only Richard Nixon and John Wayne were more recognisable people in the world, to the american public.
  8. On now on BBC 4. That gives me an excuse to stay up a little later....
  9. I'm pleased to have experienced live music in ED for the first time Sharon - It's something I miss these days but great to see something live on Lordship Lane. Def something we were missing. (better than karaoke probably). Prince Albert i have not been to yet, but might make it there for the 6 nations rugby. This is the best Dad's club so far, (because Quids is in bed already).
  10. I went to the EDT, but then veered to the Mag to see some guy called "the Great Miller Anderson" who was a blues guy who had apparently played at Woodstock. I don't think you were there Sharon. Most people there seemed to be old enough to have actually been at Woodstock.
  11. I'm glad I went out.... I see Rafa is happy to see out his 5 years...
  12. Have to say Quids that since Rip faltered I have had minimum betting activity. Tomorrow/todays race is very difficult to call. I will be away for the day, so not focused on it, but would be good to see Denman win. Although he has won this race before, he was not top weight that day.
  13. Not much of a Friday night that eh? Bunch of pussies.
  14. I had a modern "face to face" confession with a school priest once at age 17ish. I'm was not sure what to do when he suggested we "hug" afterwards..but safe to say that might have been as close as I came to the unfortunate circumstances some alter boys etc ended up in. As might have been clear from my OP, I have no time for those who think they command automatic respect because they have been "chosen". Unfortunatley many parents put their children in compromising circumstances due the the "automatic" respect that priests command in Irish society.
  15. not serious it seems now.
  16. Im back on the beer after month off so am out in edt tonight! Might contribute a few choice words later, after stumbling homeward.
  17. Apparently seriously injured in car crash.
  18. a short history of Ireland....You tried to pretty much cover everything there.
  19. Just for *Bob* - My assistant at work is getting married soon and this is from the "Gift List" section of her webpage.... "We appreciate the effort you will be all making to join us in the Czech Republic and the cost associated. The most important thing for us is to have our friends and family with us on our special day. We have therefore decided against having a wedding gift list."
  20. New man in charge Ratty - be positive. You might get a draw. MU not "all that" this season.
  21. Brendan Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ???? Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > On weekends I like to wear pretty frilled > > dresses and have people call me Cynthia. I must have missed that post from ????s, Brendan
  22. Don't mess with the kids Keef. They know they are in charge these days.
  23. Anyone planning to watch the Arsenal V Chelsea game on Sunday somewhere in ED? I'm hoping to get a pass for a couple of hours.
