Why would anyone choose to go and eat on Rye Lane? It’s a dump

Ahh, Mr N, you're going too far there. I (boringly) agree with you whenever you say Rye Lane is neglected and an eyesore. However, the cafes and restaurants can be quite nice inside, and I don't think any of them offers al fresco dining on Rye Lane itself. So it's not a crazy idea at all.

I went in to book a table for Saturday and was told I'd have to pay a deposit. I asked why and was told some people book and don't show.

I would never do that and I have have been there before but will never go back.

Your loss. Totally reasonable imvho. If you don't show up to the cinema, hotel, plane or train you don't get your money back, and they make you pay 100% up front, not just a deposit.

    Hey everyone,

I'm a reporter at Southwark News. Am keen to get in touch with Joey to write a story about the business. Does anyone have a good contact for him? If so, please could you email me at [email protected]?

    Thanks,
    Herbie

Can't help you with the introduction to Joey, but just a random word of thanks to you @Herbie Russell Southwark News! Your name is on a lot of the Southwark News articles that get posted on here. There's no local democracy or local community without local media, so thank you for what you do! 👍

you've pulled up a bit from the SLP? What does that prove?

That extending the event beyond 3 days is not just what Gala asked for at Peckham Rye, but also what already happens at other parks in London used for similar events. The facts are exactly opposite to your misinformed, angry waffle...

    ...buddy. 🤣

  5. Birdhouse Brewing has opened up in the space formerly occupied by Canopy Brew Co, in the railway arches behind Norwood Rd. Cocktails, street food and DJs. Can do a little craft brew pub crawl with that and Bullfinch Brewery and the little wine bar under the bridge at the top of Half Moon Lane now...

Extending the event beyond three days- a weekend basically- is highly unlikely. That would mean the site sits idle for the week and starts again the following weekend. That would incur huge extra costs for the organisers

    1) that's exactly what Gala Festival was asking for at Peckham Rye

    2) that's exactly what happens at Brockwell Park and Finsbury Park already

You don't know what you're on about, pal

The foot fall coming into the area can only be a good thing for local independent  shops, eateries and bars etc

Oh come off it. The punters are fenced in for the duration of the event. You're talking about "footfall in the area" but that's the 2 minutes between them arriving in the morning and staggering home in the evening after 12 hours of cider and adulterated cocaine.

In a time when there have been devastating cut backs to council funding, I don't see a problem with the council's efforts to raise money for the greater good.

Maybe. How much profit does the Council make from it? We don't know.

What would be a fair price to put on the environmental degradation of thousands of small pieces of plastic, cigarette butts, zip ties...?

You would have thought that local Cllrs would have posted this on the forum as so many people in Dulwich and Peckham use this service.

Remember many elderly people do not have Iphones to get this news after waiting at bus stops for god knows how long.

This is a weird complaint. I'm not sure if you're the same person who made it last time there is a similar bus diversion.

Councillors can't just spend all their time posting on forums about anything that vaguely relates to their constituency even if it doesn't relate to their responsibilities. Their access to bus stop closure information (!) is just the same as yours. This is a TfL question and they're the only ones able to publish reliable information.

Besides, if your point is that OAPs don't have iPhones to access the TfL information, how would they be accessing the East Dulwich Forum? (All the OAPs I know are constantly on Facebook anyway...)

What I cannot understand is why - when there is clear evidence of the whereabouts of a stolen item -  they cannot go to that house, search it, and ask questions which might well lead to any other people involved being caught as well

By chance, I came across the story below. Admittedly there are 1 or 2 other things going on in the same story...

  11. I just got a leaflet from Susan Hall. She's going all in on being anti-ULEZ and anti-LTN (a bold strategy considering when the local Tories tried to turn the last local election into a referendum on LTNs, they got pumped) and minimising any mention that she's a Conservative (the word "Conservative" appears once on the leaflet, which may be a clue that their brand is more toxic than a 20 year old diesel engine...).

how you discourage parents parking outside schools on double yellows, zig zags,

Parking on zigzags is a police matter (as well as council, maybe?). You can report it within 7 days via the Met Police website. To make a prosecution viable, it's helpful to have clear photos or video of the offence, preferably a couple of minutes apart. Met Police will issue notices of intent to prosecute (NIPs) on the basis of photos alone - if they're decent quality and supported by a clear report form.
