  1. I am inquiring if anyone out there has a share trading account with Interactive Investors. My reason for doing so is because my current provider has racked up their fees and I want to transfer. Interactive have a reward scheme whereby an existing client, who recommends a friend, receives ?30 credit. The new client also receives a ?30 credit. The scheme is explained here http://www.iii.co.uk/our-services/shares-funds-account/refer-a-friend If you are willing to recommend me, please send me a PM. James

A quick check shows that JFK actually got it right. Here is the excerpt from Wiki... Quote..... There is a widespread misconception, but only outside of German-speaking countries, that Kennedy made an embarrassing mistake by saying Ich bin ein Berliner. By not leaving out the indefinite article "ein," he supposedly changed the meaning of the sentence from the intended "I am a citizen of Berlin" to "I am a Berliner" (a Berliner being a type of German pastry, similar to a jelly doughnut). The indefinite article is frequently[10] omitted in German when speaking of an individual's profession or residence but is in any case used when speaking in a figurative sense. Since the President was not literally from Berlin but declaring his solidarity with its citizens, "Ich bin ein Berliner" was the only way to express what he wanted to say.[11][12] Furthermore, although the word "Berliner"[9][13] is used for a jelly doughnut in the north, west and southwest of Germany, it is not used in Berlin itself or the surrounding region, where the usual word is "Pfannkuchen." A further part of the misconception is that the audience to his speech laughed at his supposed error. They instead cheered and applauded both times the phrase was used. They laughed and cheered a few seconds after the first use of the phrase, only when the president made an intentional joke. Poking fun at his own pronunciation of the phrase, he said, "I appreciate my interpreter translating my German!"

Now that much of the rancour, lofty idealism and tribalism has faded from this thread, it might be appropriate to pass on the comments of one foreign observer Quote? I note with regret that few if any, will recall the comments made by the late JFK during his visit to Berlin when he famously said "Ich bin ein Berliner". His crunch point was " Ask not what your country can do for you. Rather ask what you can do for your country"! Not one of the political parties articulated those sentiments. Shame on you all ?????????.. This foreign observer has actually mixed up JFK's inaugural address with his Berlin speech but the underlying sentiment is the same.

Even if asked the same question 6 times? Surely that is up to the public to decide. Purely a subjective matter.

Even though most of us might wish Jeremy good luck today, there is a potential problem if he ever becomes prime minister. Based on an imaginary scenario of him applying to join MI5, MI6 or GCHQ, he would be rejected outright because of his past stance on several issues and his association with the likes of the IRA, Hamas and Hizbollah, etc , plus the fact that his adviser (Andrew Murray) is a member of the Communist Party. He would be considered a major security risk. Every prime minister has to receive security briefings of the most secret nature and this presents a major issue should JC ever get to No10. Probably also the US, Canadian, and Australian intelligence agencies with whom we have a info sharing arrangement, might well decide to terminate co-operation. The law of unintended consequences may dictate a very embarassing situation.

It's just standards of behaviour change over the years but for most of us it still shows lack of class. Putting a political poster in your front window is akin to having "Support Arsenal". It does nothing other than irritate supporters of other clubs. And it would never make them change their allegiance. It is just an irritant. In th epast when I have been undecided, I would look for such posters on my way to the polling station and mmade a point of not voting for any names that appeared on posters -where ever they were appeared. They would be better off with a poster saying "Kilroy was here". Remember him? http://www.kilroywashere.org/001-Pages/01-0KilroyLegends.html

A company can be loss making but still pay out a dividend - provided the shareholders vote for it. This can done, say, under the following two circumstances:- 1. If the company has spare cash on the balance sheet. 2. If the company borrows cash from elsewhere. In both these cases the company could well be loss making.
  9. Has anyone used the services of the labourers/tradesmen who hang around outside B&Q on the OKR and what is the going day rate for unskilled?
  10. Please advise what the item is plus its dimensions and if it is on ground floor plus any other relevant info.
  11. Definately recommend Mems next to Plough Homecraft. Some people say they are a bit "blokey" but they do exactly what you want done. Stay away from GK on Melbourne Grove who takes off too much, no matter what you say in advance. Used GK three times because it was eay to get to but will never go back again. Dulwich Barbers - opposite Bells Plumbing can be a bit variable- depending on who they have in attendance. There is little continuity there but whatever you do, don't let the lady there cut your hair. She will take barely 3 minutes so you can imagine what the result is like.
