Cave of Spirits no longer seems to be a wine shop. Has decided to be a lame version of Payless across the road

BB they were angels compared to your mother's behaviour

  3. The US has been pretty successful since the 70s. I might not remain preeminent but the its certainly had a long period off success.

Your question is either/or but economies work in cycles. the answer is "yes" to the first part and probably 'yes' to the second part. At some point in the future the dollar might well be backed by something more tangible.

  5. Isn't the bigger issue more about the causes of decline of species. Yes it would be terribly sad if there were no polar bears in the wild but the cause is the loss of the polar ice-caps which would be catastrophic in terms of the survival of the global ecosystem as a whole.

I am not sure that any animals are 'dispensable' (except perhaps the urocyon cinereoargenteus). Our ecosystem is almost infinitely complex and therefore the impact of allowing certain species to die out might have huge and unexpected consequences. No polar bears might mean more seal meat for killer whales which then take over the oceans and cripple global trade etc

  6. Delia Smith (who cooks with an aga, has 2 foreign hols a year, flies to every norwich away match and drives a jaguar) complains that it is difficult to cut your personal emissions as there is very little information available about the alternatives. I suspect that everyone on this forum would find it very easy to reduce their energy consumption by 10%. Have a look on the Guardian website for details!
