  1. The Get Sewing beginners sewing machine course will be running for 4 weeks at Really MAria on Lordship Lane. Each 2hr session will introduce a new skill. Suitable for beginners or those who just feel a little rusty. Week 1: - Basic skills, and learn all the settings on the machine week 2: make a starter project eg, cushion or zipped bag Week 3: the basics of pattern reading and drafting Week 4: make a tunic top from your personal pattern. Evening course - Monday evenings starting 26th Feb at 7.30pm-9.30 Morning course - Thursday mornings starting March 1st from 10-12. 4 weeks costs ?135 and includes use of the Janome machines at Really Maria and refreshments. From total beginner (most sewing machines are hand-me-downs or never been out of the box!), over 5 sessions we will use every setting on the machine, whilst making simple projects, learning secret top-tips, and eating plenty of cake...   4. Beginners Calligraphy with A-Laise Tues 14th Nov ?45 Everything you need to know to create beautiful calligraphy, starting from the basics. Class includes ink, nib and paper to take home, plus the artwork and gift tags you create in the class. More details below. No experience necessary Our beginner?s workshop in modern calligraphy will teach you everything you need to know starting right at the basics. You will learn about the tools of calligraphy and technique, learning how to write each calligraphy letter. Workshops are taught by ? L?aise?s owner and calligraphy expert Suzie. The two hour workshop gets you to grips with writing with a flexible nib and onto creating beautiful modern lettering. As we are nearing Christmas we will be writing gift tags for you to beautifully wrap your gifts. As well as learning many tips and tricks, you also get to keep all of the kit so you can continue on with your new hobby at home. The price includes a beautiful take home kit including a nib, pen holder, ink pot and practice sheets and blank gift tags so you can continue to write beautiful modern calligraphy. This is also perfect for brides to be wanting to use calligraphy on their wedding stationery or just anyone wanting to learn to write beautifully. This is the first of our 5 Local Expert workshop series hosted by Make Do Crafts, and include delicious homebaked refreshments... just don't drop crumbs in the ink! Other workshops in the series include making a Terraruim, origami Christmas decorations, a Christmas door wreath and Christmas stocking.

Perfect for beginners, or those who need a refresher or some inspiration and encouragement to get sewing again. During the 5 week course you'll learn what all those dials do on your machine, and get some practice making lovely projects that are easy to replicate and adapt. Threading your machine each week, and using a variety of skills and settings, you'll gain the confidence to carry on sewing at home. Hand Tied Bouquet Workshop Tuesday 7th March - ?40 Wendy from AG Flowers shows us how to create a stunning hand tied bouquet from seasonal blooms. Includes all materials and refreshements and you get to take home your bouquet. Step-Up Sewing - Make a Pencil Skirt Tuesday 14th & 21st March - ?50 Suitable for intermediate sewers, learn how to make a more fitted garment including setting a zip and waistband over 2 sessions. We'll also talk through how to pattern hack to alter a garment shape or style. Includes pattern and refreshments. Bring your choice of tailored skirt fabric.   7. Learn to sew using a pattern, starting with a very forgiving pair of Pyjama trousers. Over the two classes you'll learn to read and use a pattern, and finish with a pair of PJ's. The class will give you confidence to use any sewing pattern to make the clothes you want from home. Suitable for beginner and intermediate sewers The class takes place over 2 sessions: 21st & 28th February at The Green Nunhead from 8-10pm. ?50 for 2 classes.   10. The Autumn Make/Do Sewing Machine course has been fab, and the next one starts soon, with a Christmas theme. There will probably be an appearance from some mince pies and mulled wine at least once... Make/Do Sewing Machine skills - Christmas Course: A 5 week course starting on Monday 7th November, teaching (or refreshing) all the skills you need for using your sewing machine with confidence. As an added bonus we'll be making things for Christmas - for your home, and gifts that can be easily replicated and adapted.
