Buses are expected to wait, they can only go straight through if the traffic lights are red for the cars. I saw a bus pull into the car lane as the lights were green, and my assumption was that he didn't want to wait at the give way especially as there were no cars there. Its meant to keep the buses flowing when there is a lot of traffic, they don't have to sit at the lights and wait.

I wonder if it has anything to do with a fire today around that area. I could see loads of smoke billowing up into the air around 8.30 am, and could hear constant fir engines?
