  1. Sorry to hear this. Our car was also broken into this weekend via keyless entry: /forum/read.php?5,2023864
  2. At 3:08am last night (morning of April 20th) someone broke into our car - there's no sign of forced entry so we suspect it was a relay entry. We've had this happen several times before but this is the first time we've caught anything on camera (he first rifled through the glove box but this was out of the camera's field of vision): https://video.nest.com/clip/f9409a78f4d7472abec8b05fe3197ad0.mp4 The guy made off up the hill towards the west end of Chadwick Road/start of Grove Park. I doubt ours was the first or last car he tried that night. If anyone saw anything/experienced similar please send me a DM.
  3. I actually work on Curtain Road, and cycle in from just off Bellenden Rd in Peckham Rye. Happy to show you my route if you want to join me one morning - it's the quietest I've been able to find, going via the Surrey canal path and following one of the official (but poorly signposted) quiet cycle routes, completely avoiding the Elephant and Castle roundabout. London Bridge to Curtain Rd is the only busy/sketchy section.
  4. This happened to me. I was convinced I?d left the car unlocked, but then it happened again and I knew the car was locked and I realised it was relay theft. V common in this part of SE London
  5. We have just had the new CPZ implemented on Chadwick Rd (11-1pm only). During the heated CPZ consultation process, lots of people tried to claim that stories about commuters parking on the road to walk to Peckham Rye were a myth, despite clear evidence to the contrary. Since the new CPZ has come in, the number of cars parked on the street has reduced by 50% or more (probably pushed to your roads - sorry) and we can actually park near our house (helpful with two small children). There is also noticeably less traffic and noise on the street.
  6. Thanks for all your comments. An update to this- a few days after Royal Mail said they were launching an investigation I got an email and card through the letterbox saying the item was in the depot ready for collection. No explanation of the previous correspondence or signature. I went and picked up the item but couldn?t find out what had happened. Still mystified but glad to finally have my item.
  7. It?s been sent using their 48 hour delivery service- you get an email and/or text when it?s dispatched and delivered. I?m always keen to give people the benefit of the doubt, but when you get an email saying a parcel has been delivered to your address and signed for by you and there?s someone else?s signature on it there are obviously questions. Our address is pretty simple (we?re not in a block of flats) and we haven?t had lots of things misdelivered in the past (except for one previous item that didn?t show up in similar circumstances).
  8. Today I received an email and text message from Royal Mail, telling me they?d delivered a parcel to my house at 11am. This surprised me as a) I was out all morning and b) their messages claimed I?d signed for the package. When I checked the tracking information there was a signature confirming receipt of the delivery, but it wasn?t mine- just a illegible scrawl. I called Royal Mail and they suggested maybe a neighbour had signed for it. I pointed out that I have a camera on the front of my house and it clearly shows no-one approaching the front door all morning. I?m thinking the obvious explanation is the delivery person stealing my item and faking a signature? Royal Mail say they?ve launched an investigation. Annoyingly this is something I?d purchased in the sales, so even if they refund I?m unlikely to get the actual item (now sold out). I live on Chadwick Rd and this is the second time in the past few months that this has happened (but the first time I?ve had the camera to prove it). Interested to know if anyone else has experienced similar?
  9. Doug Hathaway has been recommended elsewhere on this forum, but unlike other EDF tradesmen who haven't always proved particularly impressive (for a variety of reasons), Doug is the real deal. He's done a variety of jobs for us - from building and fitting shelves and cabinets to removing kitchen units and installing new doors. His work looks great (several other tradesmen we've had in have commented on it - usually they slag off each others' work) and is punctual, hardworking and above all just a really nice guy who is a pleasure to be around. Cannot recommend highly enough - his contact details are: [email protected] / phone: 07748 151682
  10. Jimlad ignore the haters. What?s sad is this is a perfect example of myopia/nimbyism that blights UK politics at every level- ?if it isn?t a problem for me then it shouldn?t be a problem for anyone else? (and vice versa). On Chadwick Rd at the moment the parking situation is a nightmare- it regularly takes 30-45 mins to find a parking space within 1km of my house, almost entirely due to commuters. I?ve heard stories of disabled people soiling themselves because they can?t find a place to park near their home. For us, the CPZ can?t come soon enough. I?m perfectly willing to accept that this may not be everyone?s experience in ED, and that some people vociferously oppose CPZs and don?t want/need them in their area. But to attack you for offering advice/support to those who are suffering with local parking chaos is absurd. I don?t expect to be able to park directly outside my house - anywhere on my street would be fine. But at the moment this is impossible - Our street (and many nearby) are being used as a giant carpark for Peckham Rue station, which is unfair and unnecessary when there are many public transport options.
  11. Hi James- I appreciate where you?re coming from but respectfully, if you wanted to weigh in on this as a councillor it really should have been back before the previous CPZs were implemented. The situation on Chadwick Rd and neighbouring streets is currently completely untenable and slowing the new CPZ down isn?t going to help. Clearly our CPZ is going to have a knock-on impact elsewhere in the area, but there isn?t any way back now, unless they rescind the previous CPZs which presumably isn?t going to happen. The question of where it ends is an interesting one- hopefully at some point people start using public transport to get to the stations around here rather than driving and using the streets as a free all-day car park. For the record, I?m in favour of the 12-2 restriction, which should deal with the commuter issue.
  12. Parking on Chadwick Road is currently a total nightmare - impossible to find a space all day every week day. Fine for those who can walk 25 mins home from where they parked but terrible for anyone with kids or mobility problems. It?s been bad for a while but has been made 100% worse by the implementation of other CPZs. A majority of parkers are commuters heading to Peck Rye station, and people working at Kings (they usually park further west up into Grove Park, which is a traffic war zone most mornings). The new CPZ can?t come in soon enough.
  13. It does sound a bit dodgy. Would make sense if they were on a moped as they seemed to disappear v quickly after our place was burgled. If you see any more suspicious activity/want to report anything, 'The Lane' community policing team can be contacted on 020 7232 7213 / [email protected]
  14. Thanks Nigello - I have to say I'm a bit dubious about Smart Water... I worked with the police on a project a few years back and a few of them told me there are very few convictions that can be attributed to SmartWater - it's a business set up by a couple of ex-coppers and many current police are quite skeptical about its benefits. I know when I was with them we found a burglar who should have been covered in Smartwater but he'd easily managed to wash it off. But I guess it can't do any harm...
  15. Forensics told me they'd been round to other properties in the past week so I knocked on a few doors. Nice to meet the neighbours despite the circumstances! There's clearly a spate of these burglaries at the moment - it's crazy they've hit the same street repeatedly in such a short space of time. Not sure what the police are doing about it - it took them ages to turn up even though when I contacted them (999) the burglary was still potentially in progress.
  16. Further to my earlier post, I've just discovered two other properties have been broken into on this road in the past week, exactly the same MO. So keep an eye out!
  17. Our house has been broken into this morning (Sun Jan 15th) at around 10:45am. If anyone saw anything please let me know. We live on the upper part of Chadwick Rd, just before it becomes Grove Park. We'd left about 15 minutes earlier so the burglars may have been watching the property. They smashed one small window pane in a lower ground floor bay window. They entered the property and grabbed my laptop from a shelf. At this point the alarm must have triggered because they left quickly and missed my wife's computer which was also in plain sight. There was another break-in on Chadwick Rd earlier this week so this may be the work of the same person/people. I've just moved to Peckham Rye (3 months ago) after living in central Brixton uneventfully for 5 years! Hopefully this is just a one-off. It does seem incredibly brazen breaking into houses mid Sunday morning...
