  1. Thanks for flagging this @Ronniejade and thanks too for passing it on @rachp. It might not be a child who attends Goose Green but our head will be highlighting this in our newsletter and also using it as an opportunity to discuss road safety with the children at school.
  2. That's great to hear. I hope the admissions process goes well - all the best! Rob
  3. Just in case of interest, the link to our virtual tour of Goose Green and the link to book to visit the school on our forthcoming open days on 17 December and 7 January are here: https://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org/open-days All the best, Rob
  4. Hi @ethefury, We've published a virtual tour of Goose Green Primary School (https://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org/school-information/virtual-tour). Hopefully this gives you a good flavour of our school and the exciting learning experience we offer at Goose Green, and why we received such a glowing report from Ofsted when they inspected us in January this year (https://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org/school-information/ofsted). We are continuing to run online events during lockdown and hope to be able to restart in-person, socially distanced tours when restrictions ease. More info about those here: https://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org/open-days. All the best choosing a school for your child and do please let us know if there's anything that you'd like to ask about our school. We?d love to discuss what we can offer for your child in more detail. Rob Chair of Governors
  5. Hi, we totally share the commitment to make our school as environmentally friendly as possible and play our part in tackling the climate emergency. We've done huge amounts of work on air pollution and planting in our school, and reducing our energy use is a big priority (for environmental and financial reasons - as highlighted above). We?re really pleased to have successfully secured capital grant funding to replace our current windows. At the moment the very old window frames are a big cause of energy loss, replacing these will reduce our energy use, save money and improve the educational environment for our children. We are limited by the listed status of our building and as part of this work we are getting expert advice on how we can make sure the new windows are as environmentally friendly as possible within the limits of what the listing allows. If you have any suggestions for ideas that have worked elsewhere I'd be really grateful if you could share examples we can look into to see if they would work for our school too. Rob Chair of Governors
  6. Hi Caroline, there are lots of wonderful quotes in the report from Ofsted's inspection. Another quote from their report that you might find helpful is: "In the early years, children quickly build on their early reading and their mathematical skills. They enjoy their learning indoors and in the outside spaces. They are very well prepared for their move to Year 1." I'd really encourage you to take a look at the full report: http://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report. My own children love maths (along with all their other learning) and their experience at Goose Green has really helped to develop this and stretch and inspire them. Our results for reading, writing and maths are all ahead of national and local authority averages (https://www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk/school/145130/goose-green-primary-and-nursery-school/primary), reflecting the strong focus we have on providing an excellent learning experience throughout the school. At Goose Green we believe strongly that these results are only part of the education our children need to set them up for life. We offer a broad and exciting curriculum, with particular strengths in music, art, poetry and sport. Our headteacher would be delighted to talk through the teaching and learning that we offer in more detail, please do get in touch with the school office if you'd like to arrange a time to have a conversation: [email protected]. Having been through the school application process myself I know how worrying and stressful it can be. I do hope you find the right place for your DD. I'm sure that if you do choose to find out more about Goose Green you'll be pleased with what you find. All the best, Rob
  7. Hi @Caroline, we'd love to answer any questions that you have about Goose Green. Ofsted inspected our school in January and their report awarded us a rating of GOOD, reflecting the fantastic progress that school has made over recent years. You can read their report here: https://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org/school-information/ofsted. In their report Ofsted highlighted that: ?Goose Green Primary School is a safe, happy place where pupils achieve well and become confident, respectful citizens.? ?Leaders have put together careful plans to make sure that pupils achieve well in a wide range of subjects.? ?Leaders have high expectations and plans are ambitious. Teachers try their best to make lessons enjoyable and interesting. Pupils enjoy topics which are planned around well-chosen children?s literature.? If you'd like to arrange time for a chat through any questions you have then do please get in touch with the school office and we'll arrange to follow up. 10. Hi Jellybeanse15, They might not be as near as you?re looking for, so please ignore if not helpful. I thought it might be useful to mention that Goose Green Primary School and John Keats Primary School are now both part of the Communitas Education Trust of four primary schools (the other is Childeric Primary School in Lewisham) that was started by the team at John Donne a few years ago. They might have places available for September Reception as Southwark has spare capacity across the borough now. The former co-heads of John Donne are now Head of Goose Green (Simon Wattam) and Executive Head of John Keats (Nick Tildesley) and the schools share the same values and focus on inspiring learning. Their websites are here: https://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org/ and here: http://www.jkacademy.org.uk/. I?m sure that both schools would be more than happy to make time to show you around if you?d like to take a look. Do drop me a PM if you?d like to ask any questions about either school and very best of luck with finding the right place for your child?s start in Reception. Rob
  11. Hi, we?ve recently started a ?stories, songs and rhymes? group at Goose Green Primary School for parents and pre-school children, run by our music teacher Mrs James. It?s free of charge and runs on Wednesdays. We?d love to welcome you along! Full info here if you?d like to find out more: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,1969866,1969866#msg-1969866
  12. We would like to give parents and carers whose children will be starting Reception in September 2019 the opportunity to find out more about the huge improvements that are taking place at Goose Green and the warm, creative and inspiring learning that we provide for children at the school. In September 2017 we became part of the Communitas Education Trust, joining up with John Donne Primary School (which is Ofsted Outstanding), and Simon Wattam joined us as Headteacher, having previously been co-head of John Donne. As well as achieving huge improvements in our 2018 Key Stage 2 SATS results and maintaining our strong performance in Early Years and Key Stage 1, we have also continued Goose Green?s long standing commitment to providing children with a broad and exciting learning experience. This includes specialist art, music and PE teaching for all children across every year. Our curriculum is designed to use topics that inspire the children, supported by amazing texts and trips that bring the topics to life. We also have a really active school community and our parents and carers support the school through exciting activities like the annual carnival which they run in Goose Green itself every summer and the amazing Green Screen which went up around the school boundary last spring. You can see more about our school on Twitter: and our website: https://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org. We would love to invite families who are interested in finding out more to join one of our morning tours which are taking place on the following dates: * Tuesday 9th October 2018 * Wednesday 7th November 2018 * Tuesday 4th December 2018 * Tuesday 15th January 2019 * Tuesday 5th February 2019 The tours are a great opportunity to see the school and to meet our senior leaders and school team. They start at 9am and are followed by an opportunity for a cup of tea and a chat with some of our parents and carers, hosted by the Friends of Goose Green School. We look forward to seeing you!
  13. Hi there, just a quick post to mention that at Goose Green we joined John Donne Primary School as part of the Communitas Education Trust last year and our Headteacher, Simon Wattam, was co-head of John Donne prior to joining us. We'd love to welcome you on one of our parent tours if you'd like to take a look at what we can offer at Goose Green. We have a long standing commitment to a broad and exciting learning experience, which includes specialist art and music teaching, and the hard work of everyone at the school has been reflected in significant improvements in our SATS results last year (https://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org/files/news/newsletter-13th-july-2018-july-2018.pdf). We also have really active parents and carers who support the school through exciting activities like the annual carnival which they run in Goose Green every summer and the amazing Green Screen which went up around our perimeter last spring. You can see more about our school on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/ggprimaryschool. Good luck whichever school you eventually choose, we're really lucky in East Dulwich to have so many excellent schools. And do let us know if you'd like to find out more about Goose Green. Rob
  14. Art is one of many subjects we're really passionate about at Goose Green and we'd love to welcome you to see the outstanding range of art work on display by children from Nursery through to Year 6. We will have paintings, drawings, prints, collage and sculpture on show and the exhibition is open to anyone in our local community. Please see dates and times below: * Thursday 21st June ? 3.30pm ? 6pm * Friday 22nd June ? 8.50am ? 9.30am and 3.30pm ? 4.30pm We can?t wait to see you there!
  15. Hi @Tara, we're really pleased that you've been able to visit the school and see it at first hand. You're right that the last couple of years have been challenging, but we are really proud of the wonderful children and staff at the school and the breadth of learning we offer (including superb art and music as well as much more throughout our curriculum). Joining Communitas has been a major step forward for Goose Green, bringing us into a supportive Trust with a strong track record, which shares our values of a broad and rich learning experience for all of our children. We are working to make it easy to find out more about life at the school. We're working to put more information on our website, our Twitter feed has sprung back into life ( ) and you can see some feedback from one of our parents here: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,1883433,1885297#msg-1885297. (Definitely more to do though!) The Friends of Goose Green (FOGGS) are also on Twitter and Facebook and are doing great stuff fundraising for the Green Screen. They really add to the life of our wonderful school! Best of luck with choosing your child's school and we would love to welcome you to Goose Green if you decide to choose us. Rob
