I am one of those EU citizens who, having lived in the UK for many years, are now forced to apply to stay in their own homes. While scrapping the ?65 fee is welcome, this does not make it any better knowing that we are treated like second rate citizens despite paying our taxes like law-abiding British citizens do. Vote Leave had promised that nothing would change for EU citizens and this is a big change. Frankly I am very frustrated about all this to the point I have applied for British citizenship because I can very well see a new Windrush scandal waiting to happen with all those who, for whatever reason, will not be documented by the deadline imposed by the government. On the positive side, I am very happy to be able to vote in the next GE. And it's going to be one vote the Tories will never get. Though at the moment Corbyn is doing his best not to get mine either. oeLeg Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > To judge from the (comparatively extremely small) > sample of EU citizens that I know well, none of > them seem particularly annoyed or offended by it, > any more than by any other piece of admin they > have to deal with. > > They do feel that the govt could have handled the > whole thing better, but they?re hardly alone in > that. > > However, a dozen or so immigrants in south east > London is hardly a statiscally acceptable number > so I could be wrong.

As an EU citizen who has been living and contributing in the UK for years, I feel very offended by the PMs 'queue jumping' comments. Having to apply to stay in our homes is bad enough, but language like this only adds insult to injury. Her apology is frankly too little too late.
  3. You could try selling your unwanted records to a second hand recordshop in bulk if you don't want to go through the pain of listing them individually. Rat Records in Camberwell buy second hand vinyl and may be interested in your collection .
  4. Sorry to hear you have had an accident Lucymarianne. I hope you are recovering well and that this won?t put you off from cycling. I have been avoiding cycling on Rye Lane on my way into work in the morning, going via Adys, Nutbrook, Maxted and Bellenden instead. However, on the way back I have found it more convenient taking Rye Lane coming from Surrey canal path. The situation is getting worse and worse though and surely the shared path as it currently stands is not safe for either pedestrians or cyclists. Combined with the temporary traffic lights further down Rye Lane and the amount of buses and cars using that road, Rye Lane should reaaly be avoided on a bike. I hope there is something that can be done about this. Perhaps Southward Cyclists could help?
  5. I was dreading going to Highshore Road this morning to collect a 'signed for letter' after a Saturday redelivery failed to arrive. I was surprised to see only one other customer being served when I arrived. No queue at all. The man at the counter was very cheerful. It was nothing like what I was expecting. I might have been very lucky today.
  6. I have tried to contact Julian here via PM and also by text message to get a quote for a fitted wardrobe but I have had no response yet. It looks like he has been busy and people providing feedback as recently as a few weeks ago. I'll try to give him a call too.
  7. Actually it will not open until the 4th October according to them: Dulwich Bruncher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The Dulwich Beer Distillery opens tomorrow evening > (Thursday 27 September). The same nearly happened to me on the Q1 cycle path near the old Hartley's factory earlier this year. Also on a Brompton. I use the Surrey canal path too, so thank you all for flagging this here.
  9. This is very good news if it's indeed true. ED has a number of very good bottle shops - Hop, Burns & Black, Bottlecave and even Mons cheesemongers who have a great selection of Kernel and Belgian bottles - but there aren't any pubs in the area for those who like good beer - the Ivy House and the Stormbird being the nearest options. London Beer Dispensary in Blockley is quite nice and it would be great to have a pub like that in the neighbourhood. Southey make some good beers too.

I found them here: https://www.cycleconfident.com/ I thought I would never want to cycle in a city like London. It's now been over a year that I have been riding to work every day (other that when it was snowing) and I haven't looked back. Can't say I miss the daily Thameslink misery much!

  12. Yep, I could hear it clearly on Overhill Road. It was particularly loud on Sunday night, past midnight. Sounded like it was coming from Dawson's Heights area. Not much anyone could do about it. Let's hope it was a one-off!
  13. It?s good to see that there is an interest in adopting more environmentally friendly ways of consumption ? I?d also be interested in more local options being available. Though cutting down on plastic is probably harder than one might think - as this article clearly demonstrates: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/feb/24/nappies-takeaways-bubble-wrap-could-remove-plastic-polluting) Like one of those interviewed, I am also being encouraged by my partner to turn up to William Rose with my own (plastic, but reusable!) containers to avoid the single-use plastic bags they use. The Store Cupboard at the Crystal Palace food market sell loose teas, spices, oats etc. The Wild Country Organics grocery stall there had a lengthy note explaining why they are using plastic to package their produce. According to a trial they had, customers prefer to buy foods wrapped in plastic than loose products. There were also other reasons as to why they are using plastic that had to do with keeping food fresh for longer.
  14. A response from Govia Thameslink Railway to a letter from Cllr Kieron Williams on overcrowding at Denmark Hill station was shared on twitter. See attached.
  15. I am also a new cyclist in London (and new to this forum too!) I recently signed up for the excellent free training provided by Cycle Confident. I did my first round trip from East Dulwich to my new office near the Barbican on Sunday with the help of the instructor. I would highly recommend this training to anyone thinking of taking up cycling in London. Can?t wait to start cycling to work now on my little Brompton!
