  1. EDBoost, I went to that Greek restaurant near ED station, and there is a reason it closed down other than just business rates - the food was terrible! Calamari straight from the freezer (possibly Iceland). I used to quite like the Mexican (Desperadoes I think it was called), but it was pretty tired by the end, and needed a refit which was obviously beyond their budget. However, there are others that I think are sadly missed, although how much it has to do with rates I don't know: Springer's, Inside 72 (same vibe as Meat Liquor though), Chopsticks (before they started cutting costs on the ingredients). If there is going to be another restaurant I would prefer a good quality Chinese, as I can't find one in the area, and Thai Corner is not what it used to be (I know that's not Chinese, but it has similarities). A decent sport shop as has been mentioned would be great - although not JD, SD or FL please! The InterSport in Herne Hill is a good model for what is needed, with some 'fashion' sports gear, but also a decent range of actual sports equipment.
  2. Oops, forgot to add his contact number! It?s 07949 071218.
  3. We found Selcuk Cosar of Marmarex builders through MyBuilder.com; he was quick to get in touch and quick to provide a quote and start the work. He gave us a competitive quote, his team were punctual, polite and hard working, arriving at 7.45 each morning and usually knocking off at six, and working on Saturdays and even one Sunday. Despite some initial teething problems over some of the supplies that were sourced, Sel was always flexible about solutions and even absorbed the additional cost of a change in the flooring. We have worked with several builders on projects large and small and we would definitely say that Sel and his team are one of the two best, both of whom are head and shoulders over the rest. We have now asked him to provide a quote for a reasonably large extension, which reflects our satisfaction with his work, and we would happily recommend him to others. Our only advice would be to be really clear on your expectations around materials at the outset to avoid any confusion or delays later on.
  4. You could give Selcuk Cosar of Marmarex a call, his team have just done a great job for us at a very competitive price. His number is 07949 071218.
  5. We found Milan through the forum last summer and I always meant to post a recommendation. Very thorough, helpful and good value. He sorted out several problems for us after coming round at very short notice for an emergency job (smoke coming from a socket). In the circumstances he could have charged more, but it was a more than fair price. Contact number: 07813 944601
  6. They've only just opened, so I assume it's an oversight that will be corrected. Menu (with prices) is very easy to find online, so it's not like they're hiding it.
  7. We went to The Real Greek on Sunday, and I have to say it's a vast improvement on the tired Cafe Rouge. 25% off while they train staff was an added bonus, but I think it was reasonably priced even without - under ?100 for six (inc. two kids) before the discount (although we didn't have any booze). Food was great, chips beautifully crisp, wraps and salads lovely and fresh. Slight disappointments were the halloumi and the octopus, which were both a little rubbery as they were either slightly overcooked, or may have been standing for a while. Not bad, just slightly disappointing. The food was served in stacked plates (like a high tea service) which was fun, and the kids loved it. It's quite plain in terms of decor, trying to reflect the Greek vibe, but this does mean the noise bounces around in there - I'm sure the low ceiling doesn't help either. Kids menu was excellent value I thought given the quality (esp. the OJ) and quantity - I just hope that this isn't something that declines as they build up a customer base. Wouldn't be the first time that portions shrink or quality drops off a few months after a restaurant opens!
  8. I have only just learned about this, and I was surprised that it has not already been discussed on the forum (unless I am missing something). http://planbuild.southwark.gov.uk:8190/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=_STHWR_DCAPR_9573689 Please review the details via the link, and add a comment if you have a view, as I am sure many of you will. I am not going to express my opinion on this, other than to say that I think many people would like to have their views taken into account as part of the planning review. I'm not sure how long is left for people to be able to comment, but don't leave it too long!
