  1. Hobby Dry Cleaners - the Camberwell end of Coldharbour Lane. Fantastic tailor & he does alot of alterations for other dry cleaners in the area.
  2. A considerate driver has more in common with a considerate cyclist than they do with an inconsiderate driver. The key to the debate is not about mode of transport, it's about everybody trying to be a bit more respectful of the the people around them regardless of whether you're on a bike, in a car or on foot. We're all trying to get somewhere, let's try and make the journey more pleasant for everyone.
  3. This debate should really be about responsible and considerate road users versus inconsiderate and irresponsible road users. The mode of transport they choose is irrelevant. A bad driver has more in common with a bad cyclist than they do with a good driver. Some folks just seem to think that the world revolves around them and you should bloody well get out of the way whether they're a pedestrian, cyclist or motorist. Unfortunately these debates always end up into peds v cyclists v motorists and we just go round and round in circles. In relation to this thread I would argue that the vast number of 'bad' motorists that fly through the zebra crossing without stopping on East Dulwich Grove opposite the church (if you've never used it, just try and see what I mean) both outnumber and are far more dangerous than the 'bad' cyclists riding on the pavements on our local streets but my opinion is that they're probably the same kind of people and we should be standing up to all of them.
  4. Spoke to the planning folks this morning. It would appear they haven't received all the documentation required from the developer to proceed so Southwark have taken the decision to stop the process and start all over again. Southwark planning fully expect the proposal to be submitted again in the very near future. Unfortunately it would appear that this first battle has merely been round one.
  5. The carpark was completely full yesterday for the DHFC home game and there were even a couple of cars double parked in it, as well as some 'creative' parking around the corner of the ground too. I took some photographs to send in with my comments to the planning department.
  6. My wife helps with the Abbotswood/Talbot Rd residents group formed to oppose the proposed development to the rear of Abbotswood Road on the land by the railway line. She's going to send an email with details of the carpark planning application to the members of that group. It would seem a logical step to co-ordinate opposition to this latest development in a similar fashion so if you're not part of the railway development opposition group please pm me your email address and I'll add you to the new list. The documents on Southwark planning say that 148 residents have been consulted about the carpark development. Personally I've received nothing so far, has anyone else?
  7. It's open unti 4pm today apparently. The sign outside was from yesterday.

Maybe > we need some compulsory training and test, just a > thought. I see as many drivers using mobile phones whilst driving or drivers buzzing past pedestrians using zebra crossings pretending not to see them as I see cyclists who run red lights. Despite a compulsory test our roads are still infected with bad drivers. Why should a compulsory test make any difference to bad cyclists? I reiterate it's not a question of mode of transport its a question of some peoples lack of concern and respect to those around them in general. That's the real problem here.
  9. I think that the cycling element in this is a complete red herring. This argument is not about cyclists v pedestrians v drivers. What we are actually looking at is people who are considerate v people who are inconsiderate a$$holes. I'm pretty confident that the cyclist that buzzes you on a pavement will probably be the person who also barges past you in Sainsburys or would cut you up if they were driving a car. A considerate cyclist probably has far more in common with a considerate driver/pedestrian than an inconsiderate fellow cyclist. These debates mask the real problem - that we have a city full of people, of all ages, who feel that the world revolves around them personally and have no respect or concern for other people. Their mode of transport has nothing to do with it.
  10. You might, but it will be in Peckham when the powers that be close Lordship Lane.
  11. By the way, as a regular Lordship Lane user, I find the best times to go are weekdays 9-30 until 10-30am, after the initial giro rush at 9, and first thing Saturday mornings. Other than that you can never tell when it will be busy or not.
  12. I do send alot of parcels and sending them by UPS/DHL etc is prohibitively expensive. When the post office evaluates which branches to close, the only business they take into consideration is how much mail a post office takes. The amount of card business (pensions, giro), the amount of savings accounts opened, tax disc renewals, holiday insurance sold etc. means absolutely nothing in the decision. The concern at Lordship Lane is that although you often queue out the door, only a small proportion is mail business so their regional big bosses actually think that its not a busy post office. On Monday I counted 14 people in front of me in the queue, 13 were card business, getting pensions and giros, and the other was renewing a passport. None of that means anything to Crozier.
