  1. While (wishing my life away) at work using my time constructively I happened upon this really interesting article. Enjoy! An American magazine held a competition, inviting its readers to submit new scientific theories on ANY subject. Below is the winner: Subject: Perpetual Motion When a cat is dropped, it always lands on its feet, and when toast is dropped, it always lands buttered side down. Therefore, if a slice of toast is strapped to a cat's back, buttered side up, and the animal is then dropped, the two opposing forces will cause it to hover, spinning inches above the ground. If enough toast-laden felines were used, they could form the basis of a high-speed monorail system. .....and then this mail got this reply from one of the recipients: I've been thinking about this cat/toast business for a while. In the buttered toast case, it's the butter that causes it to land buttered side down - it doesn't have to be toast, the theory works equally well with Jacob's crackers. So to save money you just miss out the toast - and butter the cats. Also, should there be an imbalance between the effects of cat and butter, there are other substances that have a stronger affinity for carpet. Probability of carpet impact is determined by the following simple formula: p = s * t(t)/t? where p is the probability of carpet impact, s is the "stain" value of the toast-covering substance - an indicator of the effectiveness of the toast topping in permanently staining the carpet. Chicken Tikka Masala, for example, has a very high s value, while the s value of water is zero. t? and t(t) indicate the tone of the carpet and topping - the value of p being strongly related to the relationship between the colour of the carpet and topping, as even chicken tikka masala won't cause a permanent and obvious stain if the carpet is the same colour. So it is obvious that the probability of carpet impact is maximised if you use chicken tikka masala and a white carpet - in fact this combination gives a p value of one, which is the same as the probability of a cat landing on its feet. Therefore a cat with chicken tikka masala on its back will be certain to hover in mid air, while there could be problems with buttered toast as the toast may fall off the cat, causing a terrible monorail crash resulting in nauseating images of members of the royal family visiting accident victims in hospital, and politicians saying it wouldn't have happened if their party was in power as there would have been more investment in cat-toast glue research. Therefore it is in the interests not only of public safety but also public sanity if the buttered toast on cats idea is scrapped, to be replaced by a monorail powered by cats smeared with chicken tikka masala floating above a rail made from white shag pile carpet
  2. "London's first zero waste store" food for thought... https://www.treehugger.com/green-home/visit-londons-first-zero-waste-store.html I would like to see reasonably priced coconut milk/oil, kafir lime leaves in bulk, (shiitake) mushrooms dried. Perhaps Chinese tea gojiberries or another superfood. Flux
  3. Something is seriously wrong if a building can remain empty for so long... bureaucracy and red tape. Yet there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
  4. Drip drip.... https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/islington-flooding-floods-upper-street-north-london-water-damage-burst-main-a7456441.html
  5. I would have to agree with you complaining to the company seems to have little or no effect. The bus companies want to just profit and not deal with real issues. Perhaps contact the counsellor who represents east dulwich. They in turn could put you in contact with the relative Authority it's a bit long winded but it does produce results.
  6. I've noticed a few leaks in East Dulwich and some leak seem to go on for long durations with out repair. From what I can ascertain the leak problem is quite substantial underwater companies are hiding the fact that they have a problem. They're more interested in profiteering and then addressing leaks. Ofwat are slow to act and when they do there ineffectual at making sure companies actually maintain a well maintained infrastructure.
  7. I walked passed the Gowlett yesterday evening and the Lights where on inside... a glimmer of hope or is it just wishful thinking?
  8. Ok its the 23rd December and still no joy. Hopefully after christmas?
  9. The Council Plan to redevelop Seavigton House site situated opposite Dog Kennel Hill Primary School. Which I believe is a bad idea. Not to mention the Council failure to maintain existing buildings i.e. squatters in a ?1,111,500 house for 2 years not 830 meters away from where I reside. There are environmental concern since they would be building over historic land. I've attached links below. https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/housing-community-services-department-community-engagement-team/seavington-11000-homes/ https://www.southwark.gov.uk/housing/major-works-and-new-homes/new-homes/new-council-homes-planned-for-champion-hill?chapter=2
  10. I would have to agree with you the Royal mail of late or should I say for quite some time have been heading in a downward spiral that's either something to do with the company that it was sold to another stupid thing the Tories did. The recent closures of the Peckham Rye branch of the post office and then Camberwell Post office suggests something is not quite right to say the least. I recently tried to send a letter to Doha (United Arab Amirates) it never got to its destination. So the Royal mail cannot be taken for granted because some countries don't have the infrastructure to deliver such things as a letter.
  11. just seen this message on twitter.... "If I said it finally looks like we?ll be open before Christmas, how good would that be? So many rugs pulled to date we can?t promise, but the target is the 19th" 10:07 AM - 9 Dec 2017 But Ive been Passed the Gowlett and it looks awful since it been boarded up, it's not even board it looks like metal perhaps caged up would be more apt.
  12. OK... just seen this message on Facebook " Jonathan Henfrey aka Johnny . 13 November at 06:29 ? It is with a heavy heart that today we have had to take the decision to close The Gowlett. We have been working for some time on a package to allow Jack and the team to continue in place but alas, time has today run out. It is still hoped that this will happen sooner rather than later but that was taken out of my hands this morning. I can't even begin to apologise to the staff, customers, DJs, friends, suppliers and everyone else who have been involved in this being such an amazing place to be, enough. I've tagged a few of you here, but can't really think... I am broken. Understandably, I won't be responding to stuff over the coming few days, as I have enough to deal with. My first efforts are to ensure the staff are taken care of. I'll see you all on the other side of what this all may bring."
  13. As a resident of Amott Road I can say the Johnny and crew was a welcome breath of fresh air to the Gowlett. He was a very nice chap and exactly what the area needed. I don't understand what went wrong... although there has been an influx of new Caf? and Bars but the Gowlett was a gem.

  16. ***Update*** Reply from Thames Water Thanks for taking the time to speak to me yesterday, about the ongoing water leak in the area. I?m emailing an update to you as requested. We?ve investigated the leak outside the above property, and I can confirm there?s no leak on our pipes. Although this isn?t a Thames Water issue, we do take leaks seriously, and are working with all parties concerned to ensure the leak is repaired. I can confirm the work is scheduled to be done shortly, however due to data protection, I?m limited to the information I can provide you. I?ll update you by 5 September 2017, when we?re hopeful the leak will have been repaired.
  17. The leak is still there and no work has even started... this is appalling.
  18. Oh dear this is terrible... you should really report such matters to the police. Because he should at least be taxed on such earnings. But seriously report it.
  19. This leak has already been reported. It is scheduled to be repaired on Tuesday 1st Aug 2017. But don't hold your breath. Meanwhile how much water has been lost?
  20. Yes, apparently Thames Water call this a private leak, however the reason escapes me since everyone can see it.
  21. apologies to the residents... I'm simply shocked at the duration its taken to get something done. I'm about to take a look at the site.
  22. ***Update*** Reply for Thames Water "Hi Flux,...this is a private leak. We don't show these on our website - Luke". They are dragging there feet regarding the leak issue, its been months. But I can't kick up a fuss if the residents will not act responsibly, and take charge and lead the way.
  23. Ok... I've contacted Thames Water again this time attaching a map indicating the exact point of the leak, see B219 Hopefully it is clear. I'll keep you posted.
  24. ***update*** I've just got a reply "Thanks FLUX, we're aware of this leak and working with the homeowner to get this resolved ASAP - Amanda"
