Just wanted to recommend the Marvellous Greens and Beans vegetable and fruit boxes. Everything is very fresh and well priced and there is flexibility around what you receive, Very happy with the service so far.

Elliot has just fitted a wooden floor for us, we are delighted with the result and highly recommend. We would definitely use Elliot again in future for any carpentry requirements.

No post for two weeks here either, we are near Goose Green

I also highly recommend Aaron for any plastering work. He did a fantastic job blocking up a doorway for us and was lovely to deal with

Hanoushka - High quality painting and decorating services
bubbachumps replied to Hanoushka's topic in Reviews
Another recommendation for Hussain who recently painted our hallway, landings and stairwell. The job was completed professionally and on time and Hussain was very nice to deal with. We will definitely use him again. https://www.hanoushka.com/ -
We have taken our children this week to Specsavers in Peckham who were great. I tried the opticians on Lordship Lane who I use myself but they were so busy they were booking a long time in advance. At Specsavers I managed to get an appointment for the following week.

Hello I am looking at secondary schools for next year and wondered whether anybody had any experience of a child with SEN at Charter East or Kingsdale? I have heard that the SEN provision at Charter East is not great as it's such a new school but I was impressed at the open day and as it's our nearest school it's the one we are most likely to get. Kingsdale I really liked but it seemed at the open day that it was all about the high fliers and gifted/talented and I was unsure what the Kingsdale experience would be for a less academically able child. I'd be really grateful to hear any experiences locally, thank you!

Save Gather (Bellenden Road)
bubbachumps replied to tomszekeres's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Another shoutout for Gather. This is a lovely shop with an amazing range of products: dry goods, oils & vinegars, household/personal products etc. The quality is very high and the owner is friendly and full of good advice. They also stock a range of glass bottles that are very easy to refill and look pretty on your kitchen counter or in the bathroom. This shop offers several easy wins to reduce our plastic footprint. Highly recommended. -
I was walking around this area at 9am this morning after school drop off. Grove Vale was no busier than usual. Melbourne Grove was a delight, it was lovely to see people milling about, drinking coffee outside the new coffee shop without the old rat run traffic. East Dulwich Grove was a bit busier, with a bit of a queue onto Lordship Lane. But no traffic chaos in the slightest.

Yes I think we need bold action to make driving less appealing unless it's really necessary. Otherwise nothing will ever improve in terms of air quality. These changes take time to bed in but in the end they are for the benefit of us all, especially children and young people who will have to deal with the mess we've made of the world in environmental terms. Everyone needs to see driving as a less attractive option.
-
I think it's wonderful to walk down Grove Vale now on foot, children on scooters. Much nicer and easier. The council needs to take bold steps to address the air quality issue we have locally.

I'e just come back from Peckham Rye park and was surprised how many parents/carers of children are meeting up with others - I saw several groups of multiple adults/children with no social distancing going on whatsoever. Children all freely mixing and playing together.

Yes the pool is back open and showers are hot

Recycled plastic - London Borough of Southwark
bubbachumps replied to trinidad's topic in The Lounge
Not sure about Southwark but my Dad works in this field. Apparently as a country we don't have the facilities to recycle all the plastic waste we produce - there is not a market for the end product and no money in it. As a result only a small proportion of the UK's plastic waste is actually recycled as we would expect it to. We just need to use less and stop buying it. The supermarkets make it very hard though, we need to put more pressure on them. -
Goose Green councillors - how can we help?

Hello does anyone have any update on the Southwark Spine? -
Southwark School Street Closure Scheme
bubbachumps replied to Passiflora's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
School streets is a fantastic initiative. Anyone interested should watch this short video on how it has been implemented at a school in Hackney which is on a busy road, a bus route. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwVRosXefEg. This shows that it's very possible to implement on streets which are busy, where it's obviously needed most. Southwark have committed to increasing the number of School Streets this year. Please email your Councillor if it's something you care about to show support. -
What's wrong with Bellenden?
bubbachumps replied to Cassieelizabeth's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I have a child at the nursery and she loves it, I've been really impressed so far. The whole school community seems very caring and the new building is lovely. -
Seasonal movement or subsidence?
bubbachumps replied to bubbachumps's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks for your advice and comments, unfortunately the vendor let his insurance lapse so we can't use his old insurers and nobody else will touch us! Hopefully the engineer may have some better news. -
We are looking to buy a property locally and the surveyor's report has detected "seasonal movement" which has resulted in cracks at the front of the property. The surveyor says that it's not true subsidence but we can't get anyone to insure us for subsidence as any sort of movement seems to fall into the "subsidence" category with insurers. The surveyor feels that these cracks aren't that big a deal but the house seems untouchable to insurers. Has anyone else had this situation? We have asked a structural engineer to visit so hopefully that will provide some clarification.

My child is 7 but I've seen children who look 3 or 4 being hurt. The children climbing up the slides vary in age but look from 3 to 14!
-
I have been a few times and think the new playground is great. However I do think the big slides are an accident waiting to happen. Each time we have been packs of children have been climbing up the slides through the tunnels rather than going up the conventional way. Younger children have then been flipped off the slide as they exit while encountering a bigger child coming up and also knocked off their feet at the bottom as an older child slides out. I've asked children not to do this as my own child is using the slide but it's impossible for anyone to really police it, it could probably so with some signs. I've seen several young children coming away in tears after an accident.

Biodegradable Nappies/Reusable Nappies
bubbachumps replied to alostnorthlondoner's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We used cloth nappies but also liked Beaming Baby disposables - they are biodegradable and work really well, just as well as leading brands. Can be bought from Health Matters on Lordship Lane or from. https://beamingbaby.co.uk/ -
At the Belham we have an active Air Quality Group to look at implementing initiatives around improving air quality in and around the school. We are looking to team up with representatives from other local schools for a stronger collective voice for local lobbying and sharing of ideas. We have a few contacts already (Goose Green, Dog Kennel Hill, St John and St Clements)but we'd love to make new contacts at other local schools too. Please PM me if interested as we would like to set up an informal initial meeting in the next few weeks. Many thanks Louise
