For adults and children who cycle together.

Thanks for pointing all that out malumbu! Blimey! -

My main issue is leaves lying on the road, being washed into drain covers then causing flooding risk.

I will share a brand new video from a colleague of mine about how to ride safely on the road with kids. He has other great info in his channel along the same lines. The vast majority of parents i see on the road need to know this info. I would remind everyone that cycle training is free in each Borough and no matter your experience, being observed by a trained instructor will reveal areas that might be improved. You will almost always feel safer and happier! 🙂 https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/cycle-skills

Dangerous temporary bollard on Nairne Grove
mlteenie replied to mlteenie's topic in Roads & Transport
@CPR Dave it is a bit late to point this out perhaps, but the collapsible bollards are covered with metal strips which became damaged (not in that old pic above), detaching the left hand one. This is not where a rider would be looking in the dark as they round that corner, for example. Esp if they are unfamiliar with the area. I'm glad it has been repaired and now when you go for a ride you will be that little bit safer. Have a good New Year. -
Dangerous temporary bollard on Nairne Grove

Sorry, admin. I should have posted this in the roads section. Can you move, please? -
Any cyclist using Nairne Grove should have noticed the dangerous school streets bollard which was missing its metal cover, leaving it extremely dangerous to cyclists due to its ridiculous location on the corner. I'm amazed it hadn't been dealt with before but I reported it to the Council and within a few days it was sorted. As someone who broke a bone in a fall onto tarmac not long ago, I hope no one was injured in the meantime. In future anyone can easily report dangerous road defects using: https://www.fillthathole.org.uk/

Green Dale 'improved' cycle infrastructure is dangerous
mlteenie replied to mlteenie's topic in Roads & Transport
Hmm thanks for that. The Vauxhall business is fraught with hazards but the Greendale thing is a bit rubbish albeit 'correct'. Obv no one is officially allowed to ride down that alley, but everyone does. Almost always respectfully, IME. -
Green Dale 'improved' cycle infrastructure is dangerous
mlteenie posted a topic in Roads & Transport
Whilst I think it's great the cycle path has been upgraded I have found one thing pretty dangerous on my second or third ride along it recently. The junction with Sainsbury's and Bessemer passage has raised tiles to raise awareness for pedestrians that they are joining a cycle lane. The blurb from a maker's site says: The orientation of the bars indicates whether the entry is for the cycleway or the footpath. On the footpath, the bars should be perpendicular (ladder surface) to the direction of travel, whilst on the cycleway they should be parallel (tramline) to the direction of travel. Well this is all very well, but if you have ridden over them in the wet and had to deviate you may well have nearly lost your front wheel, as I did. Even when riding straight ahead the channeling effect is really unsettling and I'm amazed this is the best design. As someone recovering from collarbone surgery- this is something I can do without! Two-wheelers are very likely to come off here, esp when you consider the traffic to and from the school, etc. Any other thoughts? Thanks. -
Poundland East Dulwich soon to be replaced by Tesco Express
mlteenie replied to satsuma's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I went to CE last weekend for the first time in 30 years at the weekend. I wouldn't describe it as soulless. Beautiful town hall with attractive square, nice bakery, restos, etc, etc. I wish LL was as nice, tbh. And I blame the rapacious landlords for the decay! -
Noise from Wide Awake festival

I think the main issue was with the wind - sound waves are physical and will be blown around.
