  1. Can anybody recommend a microwave repair person, please? I think it's a fairly simple fault - the turntable has stopped rotating.
  2. I'm looking for an electrician to do various interior and exterior wiring jobs, and I want the work to be properly signed off. Would ideally like a Certsure/NICEIC electrician, but I know others are available, eg NAPIT. Please don't recommend C&G because I tried to get an estimate from them but have given up. I'm also not sure they're NAPIT registered any more.
  3. My 1930s front door was very badly damaged in a burglary. I contacted a few specialist carpenters/joiners - none of them was able to repair it. It seemed like the only option was to get a modern replacement which would look very similar, at a price. Estimates ranged from ?3,400 to over ?5,000! Dulwich Reclamation in Sydenham came to my rescue. They took my broken door away and fitted a temporary replacement. A couple of weeks later they returned my rebuilt door. They'd kept all the important original features, like the stained glass and curved trim, but they'd replaced all the other bits (panels, bottom rail, lock stave etc). They repainted it in the original colour, and fitted new locks and hardware. It looks beautiful. Total cost was well below the cheapest estimate for a new door. I'd highly recommend them. Buying a salvaged door can be hit and miss - it's not easy to find something the right size. Dulwich Reclamation has a great selection of beautiful old doors, and because they have their own carpentry workshop, they can adapt them to fit.
  4. I need to replace my 1930s front door with something very similar. Made-to-measure modern reproductions are frighteningly expensive, so I'm looking for a reclaimed one. Dulwich Reclamation (Sydenham) have quoted to supply and fit. They offer a full service which includes size adjustment, stripping, painting and installation, which sounds ideal. They've got a proper carpentry workshop, but I don't know anybody that's used them, and there are no testimonials on their website. I've asked them for references, but in the meantime I wondered if anybody on this forum had used them?
  5. I've had a couple of estimates to supply and fit engineered oak herringbone parquet in my living room. In both cases it's an all-in price for supply and installation, from ?127/m2 for large-format blocks to an eye-watering ?240/m2 for smaller (standard) size blocks. Just wondered if anybody out there has recently had this sort of flooring fitted, and if so, whether the prices I've been quoted seem reasonable? Maybe it would be cheaper to source the flooring myself and find an independent installer - any recommendations would be welcome.
