  1. Apparently a fuse has gone at the sub station and it's affected a few properties between landells and landcroft road. Quite relieved as I thought our resident rodents had finally gnawed through the electricity cables.
  2. Is anyone else experiencing a lack of electricity on CPR? We're in between Sylvester and Pellat Road. Very inconvenient as I can't see my dinner!
  3. Great, thanks so much everybody. I'll check with st christophers before I descend on them with 3 bin bags. Either that or it'll go in one of the banks.
  4. Hi all, I know there was a thread about this on here last year, but does anyone know where you can recycle clothes/fabrics that are not good enough quality for charity shops? I'm talking about (washed and clean) stained clothes/off-cuts of fabrics/moth-eaten stuff that I don't just want to sling into landfill. This is stuff that could be ragged, I think. I did go to the West Dulwich recycling centre a while back, but the chap there seemed to think it was only for clothes that could go to charity shops and wouldn't let me put anything else in there. Thanks!
  5. Depending on your water pressure, you may want 2 hoses filling the pool. Our pressure wasn't high enough so my husband had to to-and-fro with about 40 buckets. And comedy sounding emptying scenario which I wasn't involved with, where hose for pump wasn't long enough to reach kitchen, so my mum and husband had it poking through the letter box. It was November and freezing, so they were worried about pool contents icing over...you can imagine... I think rigid pool better, only because more sturdy for leaning on. Good luck, pool births lovely. Make sure your partner has his trunks ready in.case he wants to get in. Brierly midwives said they didn't want to see any nicky-nacky-noos while they were busy!!
  6. Hello, We put an ad on gumtree to find our au pair. This enabled us to write up what the responsibilities would be as we share her with another family. I think the usual arrangement is up to 25 hours per week (to include 2 nights baby sitting) you usually pay ?70-85 and an au pair plus is up to 35 hours a week (3 nights baby sitting) is more like ?120 a week. We also include a weekly travel card too. Our last au pair (also from gumtree) stayed for 18 months, and our current one has been here about 5 months so far. We were really impressed by the calibre of people applying - and would definitely use gumtree again. Personally prefer to find someone already here so you can actually meet them first. Good luck!
  7. I like heath and Orlando too, and crystal7 your list were pretty much the same as our favourites. Ethan goes well with Archie - as does Felix and Louis. As for middle names, i'd pick a family members name even if quite trad. Good luck and let us know what you choose.
  8. Thanks everyone. I had forgotten the oxford tube was an option. Would love to cycle there, but doubt current levels of fitness would allow trip there and back in a day!
  9. I'm hoping there's some simple route to get from East Dulwich to Oxford that tfl is failing to tell me about. Any advice welcome, I'd be travelling at about 9am
  10. My son had his party at the climbing wall at crystal palace sports centre and it was brilliant. You can book.it through the climb London website. I think it was about ?90 for 90 mins with 6 kids.
  11. Found some keys in the road outside number 48 at about 3pm. Tried to take them to the police station, but it was closed. Call me on 07904 974804 if you think they may be yours. Alice
  12. Ha! I saw it too as it's opposite my house. I thought it was someone chucking out their junk and admired the way they had creatively arranged it. Oh, and I helped myself to some kids books too, which I assume was ok as there was a couple of guys and a rubbish collection truck hovering to take it away. Have often wondered if we could collectively organise one day a year where people can put out good quality unwanted items for others to reuse.
  13. Last year we had my sons party at the Marsden Road Wildlife Centre. I think that they only do them on a Sunday afternoon, but for about ?60 you can hire the whole building to play games in and have tea. We did a treasure hunt around the garden (that bit is open to the public) and looked at frogs and things in the pond. It's really charming and the staff are around to tell the kids all about it.
  14. Hello....never been to one of these meetings - can I join in this week? It sounds just what I need to get me motivated! Thanks Alice
  15. How about Whitstable? - we had a fab evening out gorging on seafood. Stayed in a fishermans cottage right on the beach - sorry can't remember the name of it. Rye is lovely too!
  16. Hello it's the Two Cuckoos here. We didn't realise how much controversy our little kitchen table enterprise would provoke.....a big thanks to those of you who have posted supportive comments! We had a really positive response to the bags on Sunday which is great as we'd invested a lot of time, money and effort in producing them. We could only fund a very limited run initially, but if they carry on selling like hot cakes then we can order in larger numbers and pass on the benefits to future customers. So far we haven't covered our costs, so please come along and support us in Dulwich Park on Sunday. There's definitely room for limited editions and a general Lorship Lane bag - all the best to those who take that idea forward. love The Two Cuckoos
