  1. Two of my children also go to Pimlico, one halfway through sixth form the other does not wish to attend sixth form there.

I think its such a shame so many good teachers have left, but like the pupil who run the newsletter, many teachers felt there cards were marked for expressing there disapproval of academy status. Pimlico appealed to us because it really did seem to celebrate differences and individuality.

  2. Sorry got you mixed up with Mockney, Huguenot.

I do not wish to put anyone down who is working and trying to help people addicted to drugs but it seems obvious to me that when someone has experienced it they are in a better position to understand. I think user led groups do not have the barriers often attached with expert/user help, it gives back resposibility and allows people to have more say in there progress or not.

  3. HAL9000, What a horrendous thing to happen, can't imagine how your family felt. When I think of my children and how they would react it worries me especially when they have seen me get involved many times. I try to think now, often hoping someone else will intervene, as I've been punched and threatened in the past. I find it very difficult to walk by but have done, but got to say, havent encountered it in ED.
  4. Huguenot, You make big assumptions for someone who does not understand what I mean, I will now make an assumption that the alcohol you drunk yesterday at the wedding has caused some confusion about who has the drug problems.

I have worked with the homeless in the past many who had drug problems, and I kept in touch and became friends with some (I know, against the rules). Some of these people had spent time in prison therefore found it hard to get work regardless of being clean. I believe they have expertise that can be used instead of coming up against people with an attitude like this. Huguenot wrote: "Does this mean that you and your chums actually have the solution? How do you want to be 'involved'? You want a job as a social worker or MP? What are you going to do with this power once granted?"

  5. No MM, there are many reasons, they do not listen to what the parents, staff or children want, there consultation period is merely a stage in law they must go through, where they dont listen but of course it is put through regardless. Our goverment are happy to hand over our childrens education to private companys who seem above the law. I have spoken with teachers who are working in schools, (now academies), who are extremely unhappy with how they are being treated. My childrens school was put into special meausures by Ofsted, regardless of not fitting the criteria. the governing body was sacked enabling them to continue there plans for an academy whilst taking away the votes from the people who were elected to represent us. It is crooked through and through.
  6. The golden eye ointment reetpetite has mentioned, I think is golden seal, another brilliant herb which has amazing healing properties, but expensive. Also euphrasia, commonly called eyebright. With it being near your eye I would not recommend my dads cure of tying thread around skin tags which then fall of, then seemingly if you bury it, it wont come back.
  7. Tansy as a compress is good for sties, you can also apply castor oil, put some on a piece of cotton wool then wipe over your eye before going to sleep, dont worry about it going into your eyes, it did used to be prescribed and the last time I looked it was still in the BFN (British national formula, docs book. I have used this many times and it works even when people sceptical.

I think that's a rather narrow minded view of science, antijen. For me science is not about finding proof in order to take the moral high ground. Far from it, it is about an endless and exciting curiosity and the search for the truth. I entirely accept that there is much that can't yet be expained by science, and may never be, but that just makes the journey and the attempt all the more exciting and necessary.

As for empathy for people's suffering, I would say that is exactly what drives many scientists, particularly those in medical fields. From your posts elsewhere it is clear that you don't put much faith in the the medical community, but I would ask you to open your mind a little and consider the possiblity that many doctors are motivated, not by money (certainly not in this country) or by arrogance, or by a desire to control and dictate, but by a true vocational desire to do what is best for their patients.

Annaj I'm sorry if how I see science or my meaning for science differs from you, you may think I am narrow minded but seriously this was not a personal attack on you, it is my belief there is so much corruption in the scientific establishments and an arrogance of playing with peoples lives, I am not specifically speaking of doctors. Yes I do not put much faith in the medical profession, but as I've said to you before I have friends working, suspended, and given up on this systematic healing, of course I know individuals in this system want to do good.

    Mockney

Does anything matter? Personally i say no.

Is that when everyone is being nice to one another, nothing matters?

Then when the shit hits the fan, does it matter then.

A break down for you, I'll doff my hat to you if you can paddle in my stream. Science refuses to accept things without concrete evidence, I gave an example of the documentary I saw. While watching this it blew my mind I believed we would hear much from the experts who seemed absolutely sure of some of the brain functions, nothing. I'm saying quite simply, my belief of how I live has nothing to do with science or religion in an instituitionalised way.

  9. http://www.nhs.uk/news/2009/07July/Pages/Tamiflusideeffects.aspx

Thought I'd put this link up, there is lots of controversy over the drug, Japan banned it being prescribed for teenagers due to side effects eg suicidal feelings.

I have put up a few things on different parts of this forum, I do not have much faith in pharmy medicine, and considering this drug is partly made from star anise, drug company now have 90% monoply worldwide on this herb, only 4 provinces in China grow it. To anyone not sure about taking it if offered, google star anise, tamiflu, side effects and japan, please have a look first.

  10. Science to me is connected with life, thats an overwhelming feeling, I cannot connect that with the arrogance that surrounds this scientific society, where proof seems to be the aim, always looking for facts, once reached, taken a high moral ground. Morals comes from having empathy from peoples suffering regardless of your own, seeing opposites not only as good or bad. There are many subjects ridiculed by the scientists because they are fixed on having to absolutely know the answers, no understanding, no theory.

Why when they studied 6 people who were born with parts of there brain missing, parts that had absolutely been connected with things they say were conrolled by movement, speech etc. They followed these people in a documentary and they were all leading normal lives.

Why when people who have dreams where they absolutely refuse to do something because the dream was so vivid, only for the tragedy to played out exact.

Death and not knowing, has been part of the religous control on people.

Belief is an individual thing, no theories except death is part of life everyday.

  11. Southwark council played a part in where my children slept, myself husband and 3 childre (pregnant with my 4th) lived in one room, so there wasn't much option. We eventually moved but still overcrowded, 13yrs in temporary housing, but if I'd lived in a castle I wouldnt have been able to sleep in a diffrent room, especially whilst breast feeding. I now have my lovely new home in ED and still have my beautiful nearly grown up children with me.
  12. Santerme, Where did you hear he was offered this plea bargain, Guatanauma Bay could have been the option. Gary is an ordinary lad, never been involved with any political groups, yes he made a big mistake but it was not his intention to commit the crime he is now accused of. And we all know America is fair and trustworthy, but scout huts or any other soft options was not on offer.
  13. I also know many women nappy lady who have had no incentive to go back to work, women who have went back and ended off having to leave due to getting into debt, and many who still recieve benefits whilst working. I worry about the amount of men over the last couple of years who have killed themselves and there children, I do not have the numbers, and realise this is a different scenario but none the less very worrying. I do not believe this terrible thing thats happened, is only related to a career, yes in this case maybe, but whether you are working or not, people, as has been said many times before on this forum, feel entrapped by standards they find impossible to live by.
  14. I think its dodgy territory as what seems to be the reason for winning his appeal was his state of mind which they believed stemmed from abuse as a child. What worried me about this, is the fact that many paedophiles use this as an excuse, I have never met anyone who at some time in there early life hasnt had shit in it. If someone broke into my house especially when kids were babies,I think if I had a chance I would lift anything, probably try to get to the kitchen for a sharp instrument to defend myself and children. It may not be needed, could be a 16yr old who would do a runner, but the shock of someone being in your house may cause me to react regardless of whether I actually needed to defend myself.
  15. I think if legislation was to happen, it could not work the way it does now, eg: with heroin addicts, the early 80's saw many people buying from there legal dealers (doctors in Harley street), because at that time there were much less gp's prescibing it. You didnt have to be rich to be on with these docs, as less than half there prescriptions were sold to cover the fees. I know people who were picking up more than a gallon of methodone a week, 200mls a day. This overprescibing saw people becoming seriously addicted to this heroin substitute and created a black market that continues today, whilst there was the people who recieved maintenance scripts, including injectables, who had been registered since late 60's 70's. I think its time to involve people who by choice have realised this is not the life they want, who have stayed clean, there understanding and experience is invaluable.
  16. I think the media and experts cause confusion in mothers and often make mothers feel bad about doing the right thing. When my 4th child was born the health visitor asked if I would demonstrate breast feeding at her ante natal class, I wasn't keen but agreed, I had never been to any classes before. I was introduced with a warning, the mothers were asked not to be persuaded by me to have a home birth, I was shocked as I absolutely believe people have a choice and had no intention to mention home births. Neither had I any intention of saying how mothers should breastfeed, if a mother is so uncomfortable with it then I believe bottle feeding for there baby is the best regardless of my personal choice. A mothers milk is natural and instinctive for many, regardless of what the experts say.
  17. I have had two breech births heidihi, with my first I had Dr Zander, a doctor not in my area, which meant I needed a doc in my area to agree in writing that they were happy for Dr Zander to take me on (I was with him for my first two, home births). Because I had fallen out with the doctor in my own area I didnt bother with the letter nor let him know I was pregnant, this caused a big problem as I was refusing to go into hospital for the births. Kings wrote to Dr Zander saying he would be held responsible if anything went wrong, as he had taken me on withou recieving a letter from my local doc and they absolutely did not think as with my previous pregnancies I should be having a home birth (due to health problems I have). I felt I had to go in, Dr Zander arranged a visit, I was 39wks, Dr gibb, a consultant at kings tried to turn her but I asked him to stop as it didnt feel right. He said if he was on duty he had no probs with what I wanted which was no interference whatsoever. She was 15days late, I put off going to the last hour, and the young doc on duty tried to give us a hard time saying because it was an extended breech it had to be an assisted birth, which meant having to argue where he stormed out to get another doc saying there was nothing he could do and it was impossible for me to deliver, on the next contraction she was born, with just my husband and the midwife there, although she said she couldnt intervene with a breech in hospital, which suited me. Things hopefully have changed and although this doesnt sound good heidihi, once the doc was off the scene the problem was gone and apart from his attitude and the hospital (they frighten me) I enjoyed the birth which was natural, she was 1oz under 9lbs. Good luck, I think letting them know that you will be the one who decides how your birth will be and knowing yourself the choice is yours.
