  1. I've always been resistant to CPZ because of its knock-on impact on non-CPZ areas, and also on people who work locally (eg retail and the primary schools) who may not have easy public transport commutes. Regarding the proposed cost however, since the charge only applies to car-owners who are generally not among the most deprived members of the community, ?125/year, ?2.50 a week, doesn't seem extortionate in the grand scheme of things. It costs that much just to park on the street for one hour up on Champion Hill.
  2. 3:30pm - the roundabout has partly re-opened, but there were still a couple of police cars there, and the 185 that I was on announced it would be non-stop from Goose Green to the library. The traffic tailbacks had gone, fingers crossed it'll be ok by rush hour.
  3. Robin - only just saw your update, that's great news about the trees on Melbourne, thanks for all your efforts on this.
  4. I've done one of my occasional updates to the opening page on this thread, adding in new shops and businesses. As usual, additions/corrections welcome.

Not wishing to claim any of the credit in making the wonderful Picturehouse happen, but may I draw your attention to these two posts of mine on the Forum back in July 2012: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,895381,923541#msg-923541 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,922038,923032#msg-923032 Just sayin'...
  6. There are three stumps on Melbourne Grove where dead trees have been removed. In the past these trees would have been replaced by Southwark automatically, being more than 1.2m from the nearest fence/wall. But according to the new Southwark policy, the trees apparently no longer qualify for replacement. Taken to its logical conclusion, this means that most street trees around here won't be replaced when they die. Fortunately Robin Crookshank (aka the tree lady) is on the case, and I understand that the three trees will now be replaced by smaller tree species.
  7. I caught at 185 from Denmark Hill at 3pm today - the driver was unaware of the LL closure, and only discovered it when we got to Goose Green roundabout, where there is a diversion in place. Is there any news on how long LL will be fully closed for buses? (You'd think they might at least keep one lane open during the peak times.)
  8. Does anyone know of any football stadium road signs pointing to DHFC stadium on Champion Hill? I'm looking for the ones with a football made up entirely of hexagons (the signs are usually brown). Most football clubs have these near the ground, but I can't think of any around East Dulwich.
  9. According to the EDAG website: "We Are A Group Of Volunteers Comprising Of East Dulwich Businesses, Market Traders And Residents." Presumably the group has a small committee and a leader/co-ordinator of some sort. I'm not alone in finding the apparent anonymity of the group a bit disconcerting. In the interests of transparency, it would be good if the website could name the main individuals who are involved.
  10. A strip of woodland along the railway near East Dulwich station has just gone on the market - there is planning permission for seven new houses between Abbotswood/Talbot and the railway. New houses = good. Loss of a strip of woodland/wildlife habitat = not so good. https://www.rightmove.co.uk/commercial-property-for-sale/property-76170875.html
  11. Hey guess what - Christmas is only a couple of months away. All those presents getting delivered. That'll be fun...
  12. What an utterly useless question. It's the equivalent of TfL asking "Would you like us to offer a regular 176 bus service or a regular 185 bus service, or both?" Er....
  13. Sorry to see these results, James you have been a particularly responsive councillor and I will miss you. I'm a bit shocked that the Lib Dems have been wiped out in Goose Green, Labour now has 49 out of 60 Southwark seats. It's rarely a good thing to have a Council so dominated by a single party.
  14. To take the first random example I looked at: Number 55 Fellbrigg Road http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-54183255.html (lovely looking house by the way). - Zoopla estimates the value as ?1,317,000 - The house actually went on the market on 2nd May at ?1,200,000, which is roughly 10% lower than Zoopla's estimate. - And since most houses usually go for at least 5% less than the asking price, you're looking at Zoopla's value estimate being 15-20% above the actual market rate for that house. Of course it'll be different for every home. But still. UPDATE: 15th July 2018 - this property still for sale, now at ?1,175,000. Zoopla suggests the owners bought it ten years ago for ?745k. It wouldn't surprise me if it ultimately sells for something like ?1,000,000. UPDATE: March 2021 - No.55 Fellbrigg never sold. Based on prices of houses currently on the market, perhaps the seller would get ?1.1m for it now.

I really wouldn't trust those Zoopla estimates, especially at the moment. I'm not an estate agent (thank goodness) but if you wanted to sell your house in the next month, I reckon you'd get less for it than you would have got when the market was at its hottest two years ago. Unless you've done ?50k of improvements to it in the meantime, of course.
  16. Delighted to hear there are so many bees. Maybe we have the wrong sort of flowers in this corner of ED.
  17. Is it my imagination or is the blossom on trees particular abundant this year? But I haven't spotted a single bee yet on any of our flowers/blossom. Are other people seeing many bees in SE22?
  18. On Rightmove there are now nearly 400 places for sale in SE22, about twice as many as there were a couple of years ago and a sign that this is a buyer's market. If I was looking to buy now (which I'm not), I would look around for a flat or house that was last sold at least ten years ago - so the owner is probably sitting on a large chunk of equity - and I would offer 20% below the asking price. Most owners/agents would reject that offer immediately, but you only need one...
  19. I don't have strong views either way about CPZ, happy to fill in the survey, but disappointed that it contains political questions - these are irrelevant, and undermine the so-called 'genuine motives' that James referred to.
  20. This is an odd question from somebody who has lived in this area for decades, but can somebody clarify where exactly they think the following hills are: - Dog Kennel Hill (I think of this as the hill that Sainsbury's is on) - Champion Hill (er, this is the name of the football ground whose location is by Sainsbury's, yet the road called Champion Hill is over the ridge, next to the Fox on the Hill pub) - Denmark Hill (I think of this as the hill that leads up to the Fox on the Hill) Are they all basically the same hill? Why is the Hamlet ground not called 'Dog Kennel Hill'?
  21. Pressure low-isn at south end of Melbourne Grove, there's water in kitchen but not in the loft.
  22. Traffic on Lordship Lane now seems to be flowing, albeit slowly and gingerly. Any news on how the roads are up towards Forest Hill?
  23. Ten minutes ago Lordship Lane was gridlocked, with buses sitting there parked and driverless. Looks like there was no gritting which is astonishing given this was the most predicted snow/freeze in years.
