It's done by > the same artist that did the Herne Hill one... I > think Bromley and several other locations had > variations of the same design. > > Arrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhh! > > I give up... Hi Robin_ex_cllr Regarding your comment above, who have you been lobbying for a Lionel Stanhope piece? What responses have you received to your lobbying efforts? Could you let us know please, as we have already discussed the project with Lionel, and he works very closely with several of our partners. We may be able to assist. Regarding your (now edited/retracted) comment on the work of Blue Shop Cottage, we found that unfounded and rude. We totally disagree with you, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. And you know what they say... Each of the artists have their own unique style, and don't pretend to replicate other artists. Why would they, when they have an established style and reputation. ---- Jules & Boo: "No one seems to have been involved at the selection stage" Many, many, many artists were contacted during our Call for Interest phase, Lionel included. We actively pushed invitations out to artists with a huge range of styles within the street art community. It's unfortunate that you don't have a fit for your own personal taste in contemporary street art. That said, I'd vote for your favourite to make your choice count. The shortlisted artists fit the brief perfectly, and we are incredibly lucky to have their involvement. We should point out that the mural budget doesn't come remotely close to meeting their professional rate for a piece of this size, and each of them are working with us below rate because they have a personal connection to our area and want to create the piece. ---- Robin_ex_cllr: "The artist we like is Lionel Stanhope" We discussed the project with Lionel before and during the call for interest. Lionel is very supportive of the project, and the artists and was very open with us about his workload with the Brockley street art project and numerous other heritage pieces around London over the coming months. He has been really helpful in recommending artists. Lionel is also a judge on the project. He is an incredible artist, and we love his work. However, one of the reasons, we didn't present a single artist is that it would be prescriptive from our side. A public vote on something totally unique for our area with a number of nationally and internationally recognised artists is absolutely in keeping with the community engagement spirit of the project! ---- Jules-and-boo: "I would easily be able to circulate this and get a variety of styles and a broader choice." One of the reasons we were so vocal about volunteers at the outset of this project was to ensure we had a good spread of the community to drive the decisions that form the project. However, it's clear there is a voracious drive amongst a few you for very specific pieces of street art, and with active lobbying and a circulation network, we have no doubt we'll be hearing more about your project in the near future. Please keep us all up to date with your efforts. We'll help in any way we can. Jules-and-boo: ?the whole thing seems to have been signed sealed and delivered in a pretty uncollaborative way? - an open call for steering volunteers. Anyone can collaborate. - an open survey on the area. Anyone can participate. - an open call for artists. Anyone can participate or recommend. - a selection of internationally recognised street artists to vote for. Everyone has a vote. - a photo competition open to all ages and abilities across East Dulwich. Anyone can participate. - a free charity/community stall at North Cross Road Market. Any group can use it. ....Are you interpreting the definition of uncollaborative in a different way to us? And here we are: East Dulwich Station Mural Vote for your favourite artist now! Well, firstly to say a huge, enormous thank you to the enormous numbers of viewers and voters! We really appreciate everyone getting involved, reviewing the artists and most importantly voting. This is a community driven project and we very much appreciate everyone's involvement. Ok, to respond to the EDF comments: ???? Jules and Boo: We didn?t respond at 3.55pm because all of us work. Simple as that! We all volunteer our time on this project, and unfortunately we won?t be able to respond ?on demand?. ???? Robin: Thanks for your comments. The project isn?t connected to Ingrid or her incredible work delivering the outdoor gallery. We simply mentioned that we hoped the final piece would be a fitting addition to the already strong body of work. Your idea of a tribute piece is lovely, as are the related comments. As an ex-councillor, with personal ties to Ingrid and the Outdoor Gallery, this sounds like a project you should instigate and manage. I?m sure it would be supported. I?m also sure a crowdfunded element would be supported. I?m sure all of us the the group would be happy to support this, and if you need volunteers, this is the place to kick it off. The East Dulwich Station Mural won?t be this. We didn?t think of it, and haven?t discussed this with her family or colleagues, and we wouldn?t think for a second to proceed down this route without their full support. We do hope that she would be excited about the prospect of a new piece by three very exciting artists. Secondly, it isn?t the brief we have given our artists, and it wouldn?t be fair to change the goalposts at this stage when they have all started formulating ideas based on the original brief. The original brief can be found on the forum in an earlier post of ours. Please keep us informed of your progress on your mural idea. If we can assist, and we have time, then we will. ???? nxjen: The project funding has been covered clearly in our previous posts and also on our website. Just have a look back, check it out online, or put in a request to Southwark Council. ???? Sue: The shortlisting criteria was on our original call for interest. Have a look back. That?ll answer your query. ???? And last, but by no means least, Flockerspotter. Where to start (again) with your comments? 1: Funding:? see above 2: Shortlisting:? see above 3: Shadowy Group:? Hilarious?again. No really! We responded to this earlier, introduced ourselves and opened an invitation for you to come meet us all personally, which you turned down ?in case we filled you with community spirit?. 4: Bilderberg:? The ginger beer? Yes please. 5: "Poke them for a name or two and we get a weasely evasive response":? The tone of some of the comments on our posts may put people off broadcasting their names on a forum where everyone - yourself included - use nicknames. However, responding to your earlier comment, myself - Bryan - a local creative, and Dan - a local trader, did introduce ourselves. I?m happy to meet you in person. The offer was given earlier and you rejected it. However in the spirit of full transparency, if you start with your full name, contact details, passport number, blood type and bank account details, I?m sure most of us would be happy to reciprocate. 6: EDBG (sic) changed their profile to ensure you could not see when they last logged in:? err?..so EXACTLY the same settings as you have on your account? With regards to trawling comments for exact times, we are volunteers and not on the forum 24/7?.. and really, why would you want to stalk our profile for log-ins?!? Surely you?ve got better things to do. 7: ?This awful tawdry managed monstrosity of committee approved street art.?:? That?s the spirit! 8: ?Who is paying for this terrible idea? Me most likely?:? Yes. We?ll be round after work with a bucket. Phew. Well, I hope that about covers it? again. Off to work, so just to confirm, we won't be able to respond immediately! If you have any further queries, please email us at: [email protected] --------------------------- Again, thanks so much to everyone who has taken the time to participate and feed into the selection of the artist who will create the new East Dulwich Station Mural. Awesome! Thanks for voting!! Yeah, we are very lucky to have such awesome street art around ED, much of it down to the dedication and passion of the incredible Ingrid Beazley giving some fantastic artists a platform in the area. We really hope the final piece will be a fitting and exciting addition to an already strong collection of work. Hi Cella The road closure is planned in by the Highways Agency as part of the local building utility improvements, nothing to do with the mural. We are simply trying to piggy-back on this to paint the highest profile wall while the work is taking place. Yeah, Cella. We'd love to utilise the roadside wall, but we can't justify our own road closure, or inconvenience. HOWEVER when we heard the road may be being closed for utility work, we jumped on it. No guarantee that we can schedule things in around it yet, but fingers crossed. If we can't we've still got an awesome space to work on! Thank you so much for taking part in the vote to choose an artist to paint a mural on the bridge outside East Dulwich Train Station. Along with an esteemed judging panel we had a fantastic response from the East Dulwich community with just shy of 1,000 votes cast. The votes are now in and we are delighted to announce that the winner of the East Dulwich Station Mural competition is Blue Shop Cottage / Alphabetics Anonymous. We will be meeting Blue Shop Cottage to discuss their ideas and will present these as soon as we possibly can. I'm Bryan, a local creative and East Dulwich resident for the past 5 1/2 years. You've already been introduced to Dan, but why don't you send us an email, introduce yourself and come along to one of our meetings where you can meet everyone else. To answer your earlier question, the mural has the initial support of Southwark Council, Network Rail, a community of artists and hopefully the East Dulwich Community. Everyone really got behind the Foresthill mural project, and I've no doubt we will generate the same level of enthusiasm in East Dulwich. We will be inviting the community to participate in the project as it develops, and everyone is welcome to pitch in as a volunteer, yourself included. Hopefully that allays your fears of a "shadowy organisation". To return to the original purpose of the post, if you have any artists that you'd like to recommend for the project, please do let them know. It's a GREAT space to show your work and a really exciting element of the project. If you have any queries, please feel free to send us an email: [email protected] In the meantime, it's too sunny (finally) to be sitting on my laptop! -

Hi NXJen There was an open call for members of the community to get involved and help direct the project right at the outset - creatives, local individuals and business owners. We had a great response, and here we are! The heart of the project is to promote and showcase the creative and independent spirit of East Dulwich - this encompasses local, independent traders, creatives, artists, musicians, writers, schools, families, makers, chefs etc. That?ll become clearer as the project develops, and as we said, we hope you?ll change your mind and even get involved personally. Send us an email and we?ll let you know how. Please do pass this call on to any mural artist you think would be interested in the East Dulwich Station Mural. In the meantime, I?m off out to enjoy the sunshine! -

Thanks for your feedback NXJen. The mural and banners are part of a creative outdoor exhibition involving the whole community, and we hope you change your mind as the project develops. Street furniture has been used creatively to great effect in cities around the world and locally in fantastic projects in Herne Hill and West Dulwich. We welcome community involvement Jen, so why not send us an email and get involved. In the meantime, we are actively sourcing interests from artists for the East Dulwich Station Mural. If have a favourite street artist that you think would be suitable, please do let them know about the project! It?s such a great spot to make an impact for locals and visitors alike, and very exciting!
