  1. Richard painted a whole flat for me a couple of weeks ago. He stepped in at the last minute when 2 painters let me down - one only letting me know on the day he was supposed to start.

    His quote was reasonable, speed of work great (he did the job in 6 days on his own , vs the other estimate of at least 10 days), and quality impeccable.

  2. Hi there,another latecomer to the thread - I am due with my second on 26thnovember.


    Are ere any others with other children who would be up for a kid friendly meet up - wish I was still able to go to a nice coffee shop like the old days but unfortunately my rather energetic 2.5 year old has other ideas and I rally need somewhere where he can run around and or play - son was thinking perhaps a park meet or at a toddler class or Zoe,thing similar?


    Would love to hear from any others in the same position as me!

How bizarre - my mum was up last week and I was suggesting just the same thing - she is looking after my (then) 8 month old from October for 2 days a week - she wants stuff to do but doesnt want to stick out like a sore thumb, so I have been trying to convince her that there are a fair few grannys looking after little ones in ED.


    Perhaps we should put them in contact with one another, as I think as soon as there is more than one of them going to caterpillar music or whatever it may be, they will feel less conspicuous!

  5. The photo on the right is of a card skimmer (see the next message).


    I used this machine in November with that device on the slot. I didn't think about it until my card was in and I'd entered my pin. Looking more closely at the decorative strip at the top of the ATM, I found a small hole. I gave the strip a bit of a shake and it came away in my hand. There was a skype phone hidden inside transmitting a video call of the pins that were being entered.


    I took the phone and decorative strip home - the police came round and collect it but I haven't heard anything since so presumably no useful fingerprints etc.

  6. Agree it is ridiculous - it seems to do the opposite of helping the traffic flow as bottlenecks of cars trying to get into Sainsburys occur.


    On the subject of bus lanes - on the opposite side of the road seems to be an equally silly arrangement where the bus lane and the main traffic lane are on different traffic light systems. I've lost count of hte number of times i have crossed that road with people and they look only at the main traffic lights, and step out only to get nearly knocked over by a double decker hurtling through the bus lane.

Yes - we lived on a council estate in Camden for 4 years and it was absolutely fine - over that time we had the odd couple of problems, but nothing that you wouldnt have in a normal leasehold situation. And to cap it off we got a foot on the ladder and managed to make significant cash when we sold - I would definately say go for it. You also tend to get far more space for your ? if you buy council, and the Dog Kennel Hill estate I think is a really nice building which looks well made (our place in camden was the same style and was really well built).


    Further - we live on Bromar road and have to walk through the estate every day - i have never seen any trouble or felt threatened at all!


    The only thing i would say is make sure you find out about any future capital works (they have to give you sufficient notice) and make sure you have enough cash stored away to pay for these - when we lived in camden we were asked to pay 10k for windows, other works etc - which was fine as we knew about it when we bought the place - you need to make sure you are fully in the picture before you agree on an offer!

  8. Your tenancy agreement states that utilities are your responsibility, however you have never had your name on a water bill. How is the agreement worded? Does it mention water specifically?


    The question to ask is who is responsible for the management costs? It is surely the landlord. The water is charged as a subsection of the management costs and are therefore very clearly his/her responsibility.
