  1. Just another recommendation for the Neighbourhood vets - my dog went in for a fairly major operation - they called me in the morning to tell me he was fine and they were just about to start operating on him. They called me immediately after the operation to tell me how everything went, then spoke to me in detail again when I picked him up - but the really lovely thing is they sent me a photo of my dog post operation by email in his warm kennel - with a note to say he was fine. Lovely service if you ask me.
  2. My 5 year old has had a terrible cough/chest infection - we nearly ended up in A&E on account of no space at our local doctors and a really bad night of bad breathing. We finally got an appt and he was given antibiotics and an inhaler in case his breathing got worse again (the doc said this respiratory thing is rife at the moment). We are now doing both anti-bios and occasionally the inhaler and he is much improved however a BRILLIANT thing someone suggested to us was to rub vicks on your child's feet and then put socks on. I cant tell you how it helped his breathing and gave him the first non-coughing night. Its worth trying... Good luck all.
  3. Perhaps a rather stupid question - if it is apologies in advance. Received an email that says the Southern services between Victoria and London Bridge via Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill will be withdrawn (from this weekend). I travel from Peckham Rye to London Bridge most days - does that mean I must take this new train?
  4. I have a child at DUCKS who has been there since the nursery. In just over a year we sit the dreaded 7+ and as my child is young for the year he will take it at 6 yrs 5 months old. As I understand it the grade required for entry into the Junior school is very high and even though you could argue they are preparing them for 7+/entry into the Junior school there is no guarantee at all they will get into DC Junior school (in fact even if a child has a sibling or two or three at DC) there is still no guarantee. I think the 7+ is a LOT of stress for children so young and probably if I hadn't liked the look of DUCKS so much when I visited it I would have put him into a school that didn't have the 7+. In my opinion, DUCKS is a good school but we have seen quite a lot of children in the 3 years my son has been there depart for Dulwich Prep (and other schools). Hope that's useful, good luck with your decision.
  5. Hi, I've looked at the previous thread/s on language schools and contacted them. However as our au pair is not arriving from Spain until next week I seem to have missed the start of term for a few or they are booked up. If anyone has any bright ideas please do contact me! Also if anyone else has a spanish au pair - would love to try and introduce ours to yours !! Thanks very much for your help ps sorry admin posted in general and just realised it may be better posted here...
  6. Thanks macaroni... unfortunately sold out at canary wharf now but thanks for letting me know anyway.
  7. Afraid I have little experience of other schools but we adore DUCKS - in my (limited) opinion its a really great school. My child has been there since 3 yrs old and is now in his second year ie, reception (I took liked the idea of him going from nursery to reception at the same school). As I understand it though children have to work very hard to make it beyond 6 with many children being tutored out of school to enter the junior school (ie from 7). I'm not a fan of extra tutoring at the age of 6 but whatever happens he will have had a great early learning years experience. Hope that's helpful. ps, We too were on waiting list at least 2 years too!
  8. You star, that's it - not quite the theatre experience I had in mind but at least I know! Thanks so much BeccaL, appreciate it
  9. Has anyone else seen the advertisement for a reindeer show that's on at the theatre...?! I've seen it on the bus many times but when I look on-line to try and find out more I can't find it anywhere. My son is keen to go and unless I see another red bus's rear soon showing the advert he's going to be sorely disappointed!. If anyone sees the advert I'm referring to or knows about the show I'd be really grateful for some further info. Thanks very much
  10. Can anyone recommend a child friendly hotel or B&B to stay in between calais and champagne? Only looking for one nights stay...thanks very much
  11. Its bizarre I usually have to be on holiday (ie not in England) to be bitten as badly as this. Gotta be something to do with our changing planet surely? Tx for all the tips...did fan last night...not quite sure I can go to sleep with eau de marmite - even though I'm a marmite liker (on toast that is).
  12. We seem to have been savaged by mosquito bites last night - as weather went from warm to swampy overnight I'm thinking that is the reason? Did anyone else in ED get bitten alive last night?!!
  13. We just used Nutty's children's parties - thought they were great, have a look at them on facebook - they're know Dulwich area well
  14. Does anyone know if the sandpit opposite the Horniman musuem is now shut for the winter? Thanks a lot
  15. Probably not appropriate to put here but - felt compelled to do so! My son was enormously lucky to have attended an Italian Day Nursery - sorry not local to here - but in Stockwell. I've had to take him out as we have now moved to East Dulwich and the journey is just too much every day. So the reason for my post is to say if anyone needs to the details of a really, really excellent Italian Nursery (in stockwell) please do message me. I highly recommend it and my son was incredibly happy there. Hope OK I added this to your thread....
