+1 from me - they do a great job... and now with the barriers they have to reverse all the way down my street which must be very frustrating for them and increase the time it takes to do their rounds.

It's often quicker to do click & collect too - can be available the next day vs a few days for home delivery. Some places have a higher price threshold for free home delivery compared to free click & collect. There is really no need to write off as 'bizarre' the fact that different people find different things convenient! :)

No need to wait for a new Waitrose - the M&S by the station has some self serve tills like that with no scales :)

I've had some success reading old documents (when doing genealogy research) by holding the document against a light source and using a magnifying glass.

It will be interesting to see if Sainsbury's do introduce a 'scan as you shop' option. In other parts of the country, Waitrose have had that option for well over a decade and Tesco, not quite as long but for a good few years. I believe Sainsbury's are now introducing it into stores too. None of the large Tesco or Waitrose shops I have been to since moving to London last year have had the scanners in store. Scanning as you shop is a huge time saving compared to a 'traditional' shop - if only because you handle any item only once - off the shelf, scan, into your own shopping bag. Compared with item from shelf into basket/trolley, item out to be scanned at checkout, then into own bag.

It's not going to be practical for a householder to pay for a bin that is out in public for everyone to dump stuff into.
