Hi all, Following some building works at our property we have uncovered a loft with numerous boxes full of fascinating letters. I've become a bit obsessed with finding out who this person was and would love to find any surviving relatives so we can hand them back a piece of their family history. Perhaps some long term ED residents knew of him or his relatives. His name was George Hill, formerly of 7 Ildersley Road, West Dulwich. It appears that he used to work at the London Metropolitan Water Board on Roseberry Avenue from 1920 until the late 50s and moved to our property on Underhill Road after his house was bombed during the war and whilst it was undergoing repairs. He had a daughter called Evelyn Margaret Hill, born 7th December 1926 and was at some point married to Ruby Constance Hill. During the 1910s he had a long distance romance with a lady in Germany, although we don't know whether this was Ruby. It seems like he was a director or owner of the Brixton Roller Rink, which was also bombed during the war, from which he received an annual income. Does anyone know of a person like this? It's a fascinating story and I'd love to find a way to connect with any descendants.
