  1. I will oppose the development Under the grounds of overdevelopment but agree with previous posters that the safety of children argument is not strong enough. Have to say the line about larger houses being freed up for families has made me laugh - I don't know of any families - mine included who could possibly ever afford the price tag of a house in Dulwich Village!
  2. We went to look round this school for our son when looking at secondary options & were told by the teacher who showed us round that local residents had objected to the boys using the Rye. Why this can't be overturned with pressure from school & Lord Harris etc I do not understand. Why shouldn't they use it?
  3. She is a ridiculous figure essentially her message for years was 'private schools are totally wrong, especially if you are Labour like me.....oh until I want to send my son to one & then it's totally ok & my defense is that he might have got into a gang at a state school..'
  4. Hi there we had a bees nest last year In a compost bin in front of our shed which couldn't be moved because there was no base, they were wild bees not honey bees & beekeepers wouldnt take them so it's inportant to identify them if you can. I didn't want them to be killed by pest comtrol so in the end we decided to leave them alone & just told the children to keep a bit of distance from their entry point & after about 5 weeks they just moved off of their own accord. Whenever we were near the bin they didn't seem bothered they just went about their bee stuff so it was ok in the end.
  5. I think black geox trainers good for school as can run in them but they look like school shoes, biff and merlin shoes in crystal palace stock them. For out of school we often look at office and H & M, also the sports shops for things like Adidas high tops & sports direct for Nike astro turf trainers that also make good w end trainers & come in lots of bright colours.
  6. Yes everyone has their own opinion I totally agree, mine just happens to be positive about Heber. Happy to answer any more questions if original poster has them as I still have two children at the school and my third about to start. Hope you will be happy with new school dulwich born & bred & that it works out for you.
  7. im sure they will change the coat situation if someone raises it. It's a good nursery with caring staff - as you said you took your child out because it didn't suit so you aren't there now and many parents that I see there every day seem very happy with it. I think it's slightly unfair to put it down when there are staff there doing their best to make it a nurturing & positive environment. To my knowledge there aren't 30 children at a time in the nursery classroom as they are split into smaller groups. There isn't any space to expand that classroom and it has direct access to outside so I don't think there is much they can do about the size of the classroom. I have had two children in the nursery and whilst there are always things in any school that can be improved I felt that both of mine had a good start there.
  8. I've had two children at Heber nursery & I have to say I disagree, the nursery children do have a dedicated playground which I think is fairly ample in size and if they want they have access to the reception playground. I think there seems to be a general 'fear' about older children but we are talking about reception children who are themselves only 4 or 5! In my experience the reception children have been lovely with the nursery ones & for my younger son it was nice as he knew a boy in reception who used to come & play with him. I agree the coats being outside is a bit odd that wasn't the case when my kids were there though They are under cover & not directly outside.
  9. I know that's exactly what we are feeling! We've been told that there were 70 sibling places this year & the catchment has shrunk dramatically. It's hard to believe there are 77 children in front of us on the waiting list when we were well within catchment last year but the really annoying thing is that despite living so close we have no chance of getting in when we are that far down the list - people keep saying the list moves but it's not going to move by 77 children! K
  10. I know! That's exactly what we are feeling. The admissions officer said there were 70 siblings this year & the bad luck for us is that the catchment area has shrunk so much that whereas we would have been in last year, this year we are very far down the list. It's hard to imagine that there are 76 children between our house & the school ahead of us in the queue! K
  11. I'm sure if you are in the teens you will be ok in terms of movement, we live just 1,600 metres away & our next door neighbour got in on the first round last year but the catchment area has shrunk so much this year that we have not got a place at what is our nearest local school that we hoped our child would go to - we are actually 78th on the waiting list even though we live so near so no hope of getting in to our local secondary.
  12. Finding this thread annoying as someone who lives 1,500 metres from the school & hasn't got a place this year and are over 70 down on the waiting list despite our next door neighbour getting a place in the first round last year -we are being told that this is a terrible year & that there were 70 sibling places etc etc. I think charter is moving away from being able to call itself a community school & feels more like a private school for those who can afford to live next door to it - so if all I was worrying about was a bit of paperwork rather than going to a school that wasn't even on our list - I don't think i would be worrying atall..
  13. Hi there we ended up with a combo of epiderm & hydrocortisone ointment 0.5 % not cream as absorbs better. He also came off dairy yoghurt etc & had alpro soya from 1-3 but in our case he did grow out of it by 4 & we were lucky in that respect. He eats dairy now with no problems atall. But when it was bad I found the combo above worked best with a house of mistry neem oil shower gel u can get from health matters for the bath & shower. K
