Heaton Road/Rye Lane/Philip Road - History question
hothamwater replied to hothamwater's topic in The Lounge
Thanks for the replies. I have found that the building is the same now as it was about 150 years ago! It used to be stables and then a workshop in about 1900 and has been various factories and workshops ever since. I did contact the current occupiers and they were helpful. Although I would still like to find out what it was in the 50s-70s if anyone has any information. Thanks again -
Hi, Please see attached image - I am trying to identify the building labelled "Works" in this map of Heaton Road/Rye Lane/Philip Road area from the 60s/70s. Previously (in 1950s) it was labelled Furniture factory. I am interested to know what it was, who ran it and most importantly, what was the address here? My family ran it as a woodworking factory in 1900 for a few years and I would like to find out more. If any one has any photos from the 70s/80s even better but I suspect that's a long-shot.

Hi, Interesting thread. I hope people still see replies after all this time - it's possible that my family occupied the location before Austins but I am not certain. Was it the space behind number 65 Heaton Road? The images on the post above don't work any more but I would love to see them if anyone has copies. Thanks!
