  1. Hi Cora Thanks for setting this up, sadly we're away that week but I hope you have fun getting to meet a few new people.
  2. Hello We also have a son starting Year 7 in Sept (and a daughter already at Charter) - is there a plan for a park meet? Thanks!
  3. This is a review of Landscape Gardener Stephen Young from my husband - an architect who is very picky about this kind of thing! We employed Stephen Young ([email protected]) to replace 25sqm of our existing rotten decking. He came up with some good improvements from the original deck, was reasonably priced, honest about when he could start, easy to get on with, friendly to the kids, didn't cut corners, did a good job and made a good effort at not making the inside of the house dirty (everything had to come through the house). We'd definitely use him again.
  4. Co-organised by an East Dulwich resident, Brixton Design Trail launches Saturday 19 September until 27 September with a series of free events and installations held in key locations including Brixton Village Market, Reliance Arcade, Pop Brixton and Black Cultural Archives. Part of London Design Trail, the week will showcase the wealth of home-grown design talent Brixton has to offer and highlight its potential to develop social, cultural and economic capital within the immediate community and beyond. Headline projects include a supersized outdoor Street Gallery featuring artworks by ten local Brixton creatives on the facades of the former Bon Marche department store (Ferndale Road); a bespoke Pleasure Garden installation at the Black Cultural Archives (launches Tuesday 22 Sept) tied into the upcoming Black Georgians exhibition; the launch of Connect Brixton, a pattern adorning pavements in key locations created by local designers Eley Kishimoto; live residencies of designer/makers at Homegrown at Cornercopia, and a series of talks at Pop Brixton. Many more events and further details can be found at www.brixtondesigntrail.com
  5. Outstanding in 3 out of 5 criteria - fantastic! Not surprising for any Bessemer parents who have long known what an amazing school it is, but I'm delighted for the staff who work so hard. Go Bessemer!
  6. Hi Kaska I have a daughter in Yr 2 and a son in Reception and I can't praise this school enough - both my children are very happy there and I've always found the teaching and management to be excellent. The head is amazing. Loads of outside space and views over fields. They're also building a new Yr 5/6 facility. Great community feel. I'm sure you would not regret moving to Bessemer! MM
  7. Great idea, thank you we would love to come - looking forward to meeting other 2014 starters!
  8. I have a yr 1 daughter at Bessemer and a son starting reception in Sept (he is currently at Bessemer nursery where he has positively flourished) - we could not be happier with the school because of all the above comments and more. It's a mile from our house but totally worth it. When we viewed our local schools it stood out a mile and has in no way disappointed. I'll be at the welcome picnic with my son Joe so hope to meet you there!
  9. Hi Sanne Panne We visited five of our nearest schools (Heber, Goodrich, St J and St C, Goose Green and Bessemer) and felt that Bessemer Grange really stood out as the best school we'd seen. It has an amazing generously proportioned building with masses of natural light and tons of outside space. The teaching staff were very motivated to improve the already good results of the school, and all the children seemed really well behaved. I'd be interested to hear what you thought following your visit. We are also starting at Bessemer in September - Friends of Bessemer are organising a picnic during the summer for children starting next term, and we'll be going along to that. Hopefully might see you there! Am also very interested to hear of parents with children already at Bessemer. MM
  10. I know this isn't strictly a Family Room topic, but I thought there would be less men looking here! Does anyone know a local Brazilian waxer who is good? My trusty waxer for the past few years is based in N1, and with a toddler and newborn in tow, there's little chance of getting time to make the journey . . any recommendations??
  11. My daughter is due to start at Bojangles in a few weeks time, having been on their waiting list for a year. I've been in touch with the liquidation administrators today (tel 7183 9501, contact Mirza Hasan/Ray Nixon) who are emailing me a report on how/why Bojangles went into liquidation, and a form to register a claim for our deposit - although I was told it was highly unlikely we would get anything either from the liquidation, or from the new company Fingerprints. I can forward these to the parents network email once I'm added. Looking online last night, having gone into Voluntary Creditors Liquidation means that the company does not expect to pay any of their creditors. That being so, how can we trust Bojangles/Fingerprints to run another nursery in a new facility? The liquidation began in June so why didn't they tell anyone about it, particularly if, as they seem to be suggesting, that it's simply a change of name? I was also told very recently, that the waiting list at Bojangles is now over a year long - how can a company with this situation go into liquidation (unless that was a lie)? It seems very fishy. I am very interested to meet the owners of Bojangles/Fingerprint to hear what they have to say . . it would take a great deal for them to reassure me to continue with them. I too feel very sorry for the staff who seem equally as out of the loop as we are. Thanks very much for all the postings and information so far.
