We are in Landcroft Road, nice place, lovely neighbours. The 1st major damage was caused by the construction of new pavements either side of the road. The damages were caused by huge, cumbersome, transports carrying brickwork, the breaking up of the paving slabs, hefty and very noisy. The noise and the vibration and the damage they caused was horrendous. I work from home...doesn't help me at all. The terrible shaking of our home, was unbearable. I complained to the council. The answer I got was rude and disgraceful. We are on a corner, loads of drilling going on creating large holes. Now we have major building works directly opposite us which has been going on for months and is huge. Again the delivery of hefty tools and equipment, Shaking even more than the pavement work, floors creaking, huge cracks, we expect it to collapse any moment. To add to the problems the workers are very slow indeed. I dont know how many work there, but they are very slow and annoying with loud conversations and radio. Would you believe the cheek of it, they've obviously now gone on holidays!!! So we have to wait further for them to return, to produce more dust (I have COPD!) more noise, adding to the time it is all taking. Excuse me for going on some time, but this really is so shocking and stressful!!

We thought the rats had gone on summer holiday with everyone else! Oh No! Some chance! Even luckier still, Roger wasn't on holiday. So he worked his magic on the evil horrible critters. He really is a gem! He is very pleasant to have around the house, he is totally reliable, he is very experienced and totally trust worthy. Thank you Roger and Eliot.

PS Just to let you know, I didn't really mean to shoot them.......... ;) Muser

Thank you all for your thoughts. Certainly those who are treating and close to the unfortunate patients, cleaners etc etc etc are top priority. I'm not especially impressed with any of the governments tardy advice. Apart from staying indoors. I think if we are shown videos of groups of people on the beaches, enjoying a picnic in the sunshine in the parks this weekend. If they cant comprehend what staying indoors means and don't understand the reason for staying indoors. They should be shot. Harsh I know but who needs them. Be Safe, Be Happy Muser

Hoping this is appropriate: Does anyone know where I can buy face masks locally. Seems to me there is more of a need to be worn. Thanks Muser

Yet another fan for very good reasons.....Rats!!! Not the most pleasant creatures fighting and smelling under the floorboards and the flies above the floorboards. In comes Roger, I see everyone calls him Roger like a long term friend. Well he is like that, great company while casually getting on with the job. He has years of learning and experience. He knows exactly what he's doing and won't let go until the varmints have gone. Seriously very impressive and a very nice guy.

Well, that's certainly worth a try. Thanks

Again, great advice. I have quite a collection to dispose of. Thank you very much.

That's really neat. Thank you very much. Will do that.

Whaaaaaa????? INDEED! DOH! WHOOPS! SORRIES!!!! Sorry Goodrich school, children, teachers, parents, residents et al.....As soon as I saw the words 'NOISE and GOODRICH" I saw RED!!! Having been affected by the 'pavement replacement, experience!Dust storms and real earth tremors , loud bangs! I just got carried away! Nothing to do with the school at all. Doh!

Excuse my delay in responding. Thats a good point....forgive me I couldn't let that pass! Well at least the exposed used blades would be very much safer, but the burning of course not exactly eco friendly ! I wonder what does happen with them. Ive got loads, not knowing how to dispose of them without exposing anyone to nasty cuts.

Totally agree its doing my head in!!!! Ridiculous sized lorries with trailers, skips flinging their vehicles around smashing chains together etc! I thought ridiculous SUVs were bad enough (not noise, ridiculous size for an ancient city!)All the dust in the air. I really feel for mums and dads with young babies!!! I am positive the weight of old curbs, tarmac etc sent crashing into lorries or dropped are damaging all our properties. You can really feel the tremors!!These are very old structures and our homes!!! Was even worse on Tuesday when the rubbish collection guys were around with their very Noisey vehicles, speeding around. Eco friendly huh? What a combination!!

Does anyone know of anywhere I can recycle my safety razor blades. I did get them from Holland, but they charge for an envelope and of course there would be a postage charge. I was thinking there maybe a chemist which can recycle safely syringes etc may help. Beardies need not reply :) Thanks Muser

I guess its a good idea to turn of heating? If there is no water to heat? And nothing is coming out of our taps at the mo.

I Happened across this little guy this morning in Goodrich Rd, near Lordship Lane junction.Looked a little off colour, so I tried some mouth to mouth and I hate to say , I did smell alcohol! Anyway, It's very cold out there, so I've bought him home. He's had a little black coffee and now he's sleeping. Dreaming of his best friend, I'm sure. It would be great to find his bestest friend. Anyone know who it is?

Name of Gas contractors excavating Goodrich Rd
muser replied to muser's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes I realise that and apologised for that and explained that the 'neither safe or attractive' was referring to the pipe taking the gas in to our house. to go into more detail if you wish, I have explained it is a pipe attached to the side of our house from the pavement, therefore vulnerable to vandalism and as we are at a crossroads where accidents occur a car may indeed crash into it. It is ugly. Inside work, positioning was not thought out. There was a bad smell of gas when they left and the gas emergency service were called and attended several times. i am sure there is a legal requirement that they check everything for safety before switching on the gas connections to all our houses. So dont worry. Without intending to be rude, I would like to end the conversation there. If you do wish to communicate with me please PM me , I am sure everyone has had enough of our chat Best Muser -

Yes looking at it again perhaps it was a bit harsh, my apologies.I should have explained teh unsafe and unattractive reference was to the gas pipe in to our house is on the outside of our wall on the pavement and the interior work needed to be repositioned. I would certainly have warned peeps had the work been found to be unsafe. I was just very impressed at how they are dealing with our problem. Complimenting a utility company is something I'm not entirely used to.
