Went in around lunchtime, was told by a customer in the carpark it was cash only, HOWEVER that was not the case. Yes the initial queue was longer than normal and the store was busier than it has been for the last 6 weeks, but the queues worked their way through and it was actually OK.

I'd suggest taking pictures and sending them to the council expressing your exasperation and asking for them to attend to the garden works which need remedying. 

In past years have been able to hear the base further up Forest Hill Road, but not so this year, perhaps the wind isn't in this direction???

However people urinating behind bins or in bushes is totally unacceptable, I sympathise with all those affected and who have had to witness this. 

A few years ago the Horniman Gardens held a food event, cars parked everywhere and people urinating anywhere they could, very disrespectful.

Went past on the bus earlier and saw all the barriers which have been erected, they actually look to be the same height as last year from memory, However they totally obscure the view of the park, I feel sorry for all those living opposite who have to see this each morning for the entirety of the event.   

I agree, I didn't think any tree work was allowed during nesting season, perhaps inform the council of this.

So were is the value of money in that , and you know what, we all pay for it from our council tax. More administration and more of a burden on the people. He is out of touch with reality. 

And as for Susan Hall, her campaign was only about Ulez, it was the only thing she ever brought up, when London has so many other problems that she didn't ever mention once. Her hope was that the voters in the outer London Boroughs would get her over the line, she failed miserably.  

And why does the new mayor think Londoners should provide school meals for children, not his, or our responsibility, or does he now control the running of schools as well.  And as for air quality, its been proven Ulez has made practically NO difference. Where is all the money he's generated, certainly not back into London, otherwise he wouldn't have raised his part of the council tax for 2024/25 by 8.3%. WE pay more and get less each and every year.  Well if that's the case, the scrutiny of borough councils needs to increase 1000+ fold and be held to account for the actions they take and the decisions they make. 

His "winners" speech was no more than hot air, saying how he represents all Londoners, I'll tell you what, lets switch Mayors and have Andy Burnham, Manchester can have Khan, At least Burnham is a proper politician with proper values who actually cares about people.

no, there is still the Lidl at the Bricklayers Arms end of the Old Kent Rd

Preference is for Lidl Old Ken Road (the top end) a few doors down from where Aldi used to be. Its large and the range and choice I find are good. 

FH is so much greener and IMO nicer than ED, sorry. Less commercialised.

And as for olive oil, my preference is the Spanish 2L cans in Sainsbury, it has a real nice peppery taste, not bland like the Italian one's I've tasted, but that's personal preference I suppose. 

Pudding rice used to be in the same aisle as tinned fruit if that helps??

My preference is the Sainsburys fruit and veg aisle over Morrison any day of the week and Lidl, although I adore Lidl for other things they sell and their speciality weeks.  However Sainsburys size of peppers varies (small to moderate) week to week but the price remains constant, fresh mushrooms are hit and miss, some weeks they have them other weeks what's there I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. Gave up on the oranges as they also became much smaller but at the same price. 

Nectar is a money saver compared o the price without the Nectar reduction. That's the same for all four of the big brand supermarkets. It may have flaws but saving money is what its about. Just some thoughts.  

FredMarsh, I sympathise with you. I suspect the coral fencing at the entrance is to prevent people legging it out of store with unpaid for goods in hand. It does feel a bit like herding cattle as you describe it. Perhaps the reduction in customers is a response to this and the lack of previously available services. 

I find self check out is quicker if I do it myself and since the new self service points have been installed the screens work much better as they are as of today still newish. The old ones were "knackered" and continued to regularly fail. 

I had to buy some whisky as a present for someone yesterday, the Sainsbury staff took it away, removed the security tags and returned it, so that all went simply. 

Unfortunately the days of what was the original Sainsburys in Peckham and Forest Hill are long gone, as are many of the old shops I remember from the mid 70's, i.e. Kennedy's. The world continually changes and as we get older we have to keep up. 

I saw something really sad in Peckham yesterday, a very, very old woman walking down Hanover Park by Primark on the corner with Rye Lane, bent almost half over, pushing her own four wheel trolley along, taking her time.  Made me  realise how lucky I am.  

Yes, checking the receipt to make sure Nectar has been applied is always worth doing. Ditto Tesco Old Kent Road this week were what the label of the stack of fruit said one price and even with the Tesco card, the price at checkout was different, that resulted in photo's and it still being checked by Customer Service......

As for "Sainsburys always being horrible", I have to disagree with you on that.

SE23 has always been known as the over spill to SE22, for those that wish but can't afford it, however look at all the benefits SE23 has to offer, as they say, the choice is yours, oh, sorry wrong show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All Susan hall has banged on about has been ULEZ and nothing else, when there are huge issues which affect London and that she should have also discussed.

Have you been back to Dugard & Daughters and discussed it with them yet? What was their response and reaction?

There are other butchers to choose from. I've used the same one (not the one you mention) for probably 9-10 years and wouldn't go anywhere else. Always get well looked after.
