  1. Wasn't aware of the origins of the trouble that day but doesn't surprise me. Remember well the pitch invasions and the mounted charge. Lost 3-1 at home to Watford in QF in front of 42,000 - a young John Barnes scored the first curling a shot from the edge of the area past Tony Coton who was sold to Watford in the summer. Seen as many as the onset of our 80s decline, we won one more game that season against Villa and got relegated (having been comfortably mid-table). Ron Saunders split up a talented but wayward team before leaving himself.

  7. You would think. Plus Villa, Spurs and Man City (providing...). Depends what draw(s) throws up but could be the year for an outsider to at least make the final.
  8. Interesting article by Ron Liddle. The early days of the new regime at West Ham are very similar to when they took over at Birmingham, albeit with a different starting point. There were talks of the disastrous and parlous state of the club naming rights, new stadium, bringing in star players (Papin at ?20k per week - Maradona was mentioned once) and a nice guy manager (Terry Cooper). Next few months are going to be very interesting but I fear for Zola. One thing Sully sneaked into interviews is that he will decide on players coming in (i.e. his agent mates will decide).

  10. Wonder if sales at the Clapham joke shop increased? More seriously it seems that some players deliberately set out to injure opponents (gouging, raking, dangerous tackles) and see the risk of a lengthy ban as an occupational hazard (OK, there have been occasional documented cases in football) - I just can't understand this.

I was part of a group of Moseley fans attacked by Leicester fans at the Cup Final at Twickenham as far back as 1979!! And from talking to colleagues who go to games regularly, it does seem to be creeping into fan behaviour as the game tries to attract a wider audience.

Maybe he meant Luton......just as likely! Has to be said, every time I see Gary Co*k I like him less and less. A disgrace to the club he allegedly supports.
