If the likelihood of being caught doesn’t put them off then the severity needs to. I think the Saudis have it right here - first time you lose a finger, second a hand.

A kid on a bike tried but failed to grab mine from my hand outside Denmark Hill station on Wednesday morning. Right in front of a cctv camera and didn’t even bother to cycle off especially quickly. And another one looping around suspiciously on the pavement outside East Dulwich station this evening, although I didn’t see him try anything. It does seem to be a bit of a trend.

The website says consultation closes 9 November 2023 - is the 3 a typo?? -
Hi, can anyone recommend a competent but not too expensive gardener? I don't need any botanical expertise - it would just be for some weeding, cleaning ground-level gutters round the patio and cutting back overgrown plants in a border. I am thinking 2-3 hours work once every 3 months. Grateful for your recommendations.

A quick straw poll - has anyone changed their mind on Rye Lane closure / non-closure based on the discussion on these pages? -

I agree it wouldn't be cheap, but we just spent $1.1bn on 2 new Northern Line stations to service laregly empty investment apartments so surely a few million could be thrown Peckham's way! On the road layout, yes it is a bit complicated there - I would suggest making the roads around the bus garage into an anti-clockwise one way loop. -
Hi KidKruger, thanks for replying. I can access the floor above, I just don't know how to get an electrical output installed at the right point in the ceiling, or what sort of materials I need to put there to support the light fitting (and what category of trades-person I need to do this for me).

Rye Lane is fundamentally too narrow for all the users that want to use it (pedestrians, cyclists, delivery drivers, buses) to do so simultaneously in comfort. Anything that pleases bus users will annoy cyclists & pedestrians; anything that pleases cyclists will annoy pedestrians & bus users, and so on. So we need to think a bit outside the box. In my view the best solution would be to keep buses off of Rye Lane but create direct Peckham Rye Station access from a) Bellenden Road (between Holly Grove and Blenheim Grove) and b) the Consort Road / Copeland Road junction, with step-free entrances and well-lit, covered, CCTV-monitored walkways (maybe even a travelator for the ~250m from the Copeland entrance to the main station). Add bus stops by those entrances and then bus users could easily access the station and the other Rye Lane users would have a little more room to move and breathe. -
Hi, This is my first post, as I just moved to the area. I hope you will be patient with me if my question is a bit stupid! I need to move a light fitting in the ceiling by about 4 feet (from the centre of the room off to one side), replaster the hole, and hang a heavy light in the new fitting location. I also need to add two wall light fittings on a wall which has no existing light fittings, and mount two lights on those. Can anyone tell me what sort of trades-person (/trades-people?) I need to do this, and recommend solmeone that would be good for the job? Thanks so much in advance! Graeme
