Discovered rotten joists

Recently had a radiator fitted and unfortunately the plumber discovered the joists are rotten and the wall damp. Seems to be in just one area close to the outside wall.

Has anyone had this problem?

Any advice on how to fix would be helpful.

It doesn't smell of carrots and the earth underneath is damp so I am assuming it is wet rot.

I know it probably seems alarming, but don't worry too much. Once the source of the damp has been fixed, repairing the joists (with metal plates and sections of fresh timber) is not usually a huge job.
